Gotta say that I love your channel and I hope you keep producing these videos. I found yours to be the most helpful videos for me. I am somewhat a noob and I am fishing Smith Mtn Lake in VA and seems very similar to Lake Lanier as far as striper fishing. Your methods and instructions will help me greatly this year and I look forward to trying the methods I've been learning from you. Thanks so much for doing these... looking forward to many more!
Awesome vid!! I fish for striper in Lanier almost every weekend , Haven’t had a day like that though. Good job. I have experienced OBT not having BB on several occasions, I have figured out how to get them on my own.
Fantastic video! Laughed my butt-off as you juggled multiple hook-ups & a four-year old! How you pulled that off was amazing. You are doing your son a great service getting him hooked on fishing. That will prove to be instrumental in his adult life as it connects healthy pleasure pathways in his young brain. Some winter fishing questions: I saw how you front-hooked the shiner and that you weighted the line to get it down. How deep were you fishing and what type of bottom was it?. Also, it appeared the boat was moving via the trolling motor very slow, correct? I’m fishing a deep lake in Alabama but much of it is a Forrest bottom so in those areas I wouldn’t be able to drop to the bottom. I also drum but much louder & leave the outboard @ idle. Your thoughts/experiences with drumming vigor and engine noise. I have had decent results the other 3 seasons with artificials but am struggling this winter. Am going to try this shiner method this week.
Hey thanks Doug, yes great times for me & the little guy. Here on Lanier, we have tons of timber which I dont like to fish ontop. I look for a clean bottom which is usually near timber since theres so much here. Winter pattern here is looking for deep consistent bait on or near the bottom. So far bait has been 45-75' FOW for me. I use a 2oz swivel sinker, downlines have been best because the majority of our fish are deep near the bottom chasing the bait. The shiners work well because they're slower and smaller baits but trout, gizzard shad will work too. Summer months I'll leave my engine on and drum, now I drum but I just bought a thumper so trying that to free me up from drumming. Good luck, keep me posted
Any tips on finding locations to set up down lines if there is not a lot of bird activity? I’m a beginner at going for striper on lanier. Also, great video!
Hey Jonathan, sure, in the winter I always look for the bait (ongoing / constant bait) near the bottom. Not just a ball of bait but long lines 5-15' thick. Once you find that then drop the downlines. Many times the fishing reports will tell you how deep the bait(fish) are so you know where to search. I'll cover this in my next video. Thanks
Great video with your boy. Well done.
im new and learning alot from you captain jack . its nothing better then seeing your son smiling and being happy to be out there with daddy

Awesome video. What size weight are you using?
Hey thanks. I usually use 1.5 - 2 oz for my downlines. Did a video on setups ruclips.net/video/4EhK8OlGnuU/видео.html

You should consider coming to the Oakwood Striper Club meeting on January 18th. You will learn from some of the best!
Awesome video! Let’s get our kids together and make a video! See you soon!
