No underestimating the chore that getting that black nasty insulation out is. Lots of hard work, but with judicious editing, you made it look easy! GREAT job, beautiful metal work. I love those hand fabbed pieces.
For the floor stuff, you can use dry ice and cover the floor area with it, go over it with some light smacks of the hammer and take it up with a screwdriver. No real easy way to do the stuff that covers vertical panels, though.
awesome content man! You inspired me to start my own channel after I watched your E9 roundtrip video. Now I own a bmw 2002 and planning to take it to road trips :)
Extremely well done! This bimmer deserved it! My experience with sunroofs: once I had a 1986 e30 with sunroof.... BTW it had water trapped somewhere into the chassis. Every time I had to park uphill or downhill I could hear water flushing. Not nice. I made sure not to buy another sunroof car since. Fun fact is, usually sellers take extra pride and charge extra money for a sunroof LOL! For someone it can be a nice extra, but in the long run not worth the hassle, if you ask me.
Thank you! I love sunroofs but they almost always do need new seals. I made a video about changing that on this car. The one seal was literally non existent before!
Looks great dude! I'm "looking forward" to doing the same on mine...plus a few dozen other patches. It was nice to get an x-ray preview of what lays ahead. I also like the way you shot and edited this. I may have to borrow some of those techniques for my channel.
You have a great way to explain your work. I was hoping to find out how you separate the fender from the welded part at the nose of the car. Do you just cut it off?
Brilliant work. Very well done👍. The result is impressive. Would there be a way to route the drain hose differently in order to prevent the corners from rusting, even in if takes 45 years 😉?
What sorts of tools do you use to shape the metal? I saw you have a sort of round-topped tool that you use for some of the shaping. I'm curious most about the rounded bends especially. I'm guessing some kind of pneumatic stamping tool?
Dave nicely executed. It would be interesting to see how you worked the compound bend patches as well. As for the body Shultz, I think Wurtz is the best and most factory, but you probably know that. Good job.
I’m keen to know which tools you used for shaping the sheet metal? PS I’m about to purchase a 2002 touring project car in need of full restoration Satisfying video to watch 😎👍
This channel, this repair and this channel should have way more views than what it has! You did amazing work on this! Keep up the good work!! Let's go #youtube promote this guy more he's doing awesome work! Keep it up
David I am super impressed at your skills. I have 76 2002 also, that's how I found your channel. How long have you been doing metal work? Also that Taiga is the best color.
The RUclips algorithm hasn’t helped you yet. I’ve done my part. Subscribed !
Hats of to you sir and whoever raised you.

I tried the dry ice method, but wound up resorting to a heat gun and putty knife for most of it. No fun at all.
Fantastic work! I have a US model 1976 20002 so it was especially interesting to see the disassembly. Thanks for sharing.
Nicely done! Great metal working. No wonder you're pleased!
I love the pic of your old hood.

Hell yeah man! That’s great to hear!
Wow pretty impressive metal fab work.
I always enjoy watching metal work done right.
Excellent job keep it up.
You are super talented. Well done!
Wow, I am a professional Boatbuilder and also did some welding, but this kind of metall work was unknown to me. Looks awesome!
Amazing job, congratulations!
Beautiful work!
Great work, I enjoyed watching your expertise! Good day sense of humor too!
I love it, hope you get way more following, you definitely deserve it!
I like your welding, looks very tidy.
Extremely well done! This bimmer deserved it!

Nice work David.. Just about to tackle similar rust issue on my 2002.. Super helpful / informative episode. Keep them coming!
Great job! Every video of you is very fun to watch. Can't wait for the next one.

Beautiful work. I have a '73 that is going to need some of this surgery and am watching your videos closely for tips...
Watch the rear of the rocker where the rear subframe mountings are...BMW put a spongue inside the rockers.
Top notch work!!!!!

Great vid, just found your channel. I'm doing a full resto on a 74" myself.

Show us how you created the pieces ( molding/ shaping) please, I am looking to repair some of the rusts myself on my 2002.
Brilliant work. Very well done👍. The result is impressive.

Thank you! Not a bad idea to reroute the drains. I hope if it’s kept clean and out of the weather it will last!

Awesome job mate, whens the next video on the 2002?
Epic! Please do a video on how you go about shaping the metal. Also what was that copper looking spray you used?
Thank you! The copper spray is zinc weld thru primer. Helps protects the metal before welding!
Dave nicely executed. It would be interesting to see how you worked the compound bend patches as well. As for the body Shultz, I think Wurtz is the best and most factory, but you probably know that. Good job.
Exelente, saludos desde Uruguay.
Thank you for sharing!
Great work David. Do you this kind of work for a living?
I’m keen to know which tools you used for shaping the sheet metal? PS I’m about to purchase a 2002 touring project car in need of full restoration
Satisfying video to watch 😎👍

What you using for undercoating? Looks alot like roofing tar
What is the thickness of the sheet metal panel you use?
Very nice work. I am curious though. Is it easy to find a new window seal since you cut the old one?
Thank you! New windshield seals are easily available online through the main Classic Bmw parts suppliers. I prefer the genuine BMW ones!
Nice dude
Great work, I’m starting to dive into the rust on my ‘76. What did you use to get the factory colored undercoating?
Thank you! I actually used paintable undercoating and then got matched paint to use. Hope that helps!
David I am super impressed at your skills. I have 76 2002 also, that's how I found your channel. How long have you been doing metal work? Also that Taiga is the best color.
Nice work David! I'm wondering why you needed to remove the dash for this repair? Was it just to give you more room to work?
Good question! Basically because I was welding and grinding in the interior as well and thought it was best to keep the dash in a safe place.
Awesome
Hell of a fabricator!
do you take on work from other people?
please use plenty of cavity wax, in the cavities
