My gym has been setting routes, lead and top, and boulders w wooden holds I make. I love climbing on them. Beastmaker makes some of the nicest wood holds in the industry.

I recently put up a lot of wooden holds on my home wall for winter training. If anyone else is thinking about doing the same, it's not difficult to make your own. If you live in an area that has a lot of climbing, you'll probably be able to find some local businesses that sell them. Otherwise, Metolius wooden holds are relatively cheap and sold by retailers. On the other hand, Beastmaker wooden holds are VERY, VERY expensive. They do have nice metal inserts to prevent the screw from digging too deep, but it doesn't justify the crazy markup.
I really enjoyed your new video. Also, the new climbing gym looks amazing. Obviously way too hard for me but amazing nevertheless. Looking forward for your next video, Alex. And, most importantly, keep the good vibes alive! Cheers!

I have a lot of beastmaker holds on my home wall. I'm glad I bought them years ago before the hype, considering how expensive they are nowadays😅what a crazy, but cool idea, to put them on a route!

One of our local setters makes his own wooden holds and has been setting sport routes with them at our gym for a few years now.
And do you use the wooden holds for foot holds too?

How would conditions affect a wooden climb? I don't really know but my guess is that the window for good conditions would be narrower for wooden routes than plastic routes which could be a problem in a comp.
but at the same time, climbers may prefer it because of it being a bit easier on your skin. Not remotely close to being a pro climber, but they always talk about having to tape up for every non comp move they do in order to make sure they have skin left.
We got a wood route in our gym as well, but its only crimpedges all the way and they are greasy af

awesome. the only downside to wooden holds is; how would we distinguish the different climbs? most gyms have textured walls so tape doesnt work because it gets stuck and is pretty impossible to take off unless the walls are smooth. im not sure if dying wooden holds would be an option or not, how well would the color stay after dozens of powerwashes? i love the wooden hold idea either way
in the past we sometimes used thumb tacks in combination with (laminated) pieces of paper in different colors or with different symbols on them to identify different routes on spraywalls. not an ideal solution but better than nothing I suppose

it's kind of a joke power scream that you hear people make sometimes. it's a reference to (i think) chris sharma who used to power scream like that for a while
what happens if you step on wooden holds? does the rubber of the climbing shoe make it slippery or something?

Ich habe Max (+Partnerin und Hund) letzte Woche in bleau getroffen. Er war voellig von meiner Idee überzeugt: 5-10 kilterboards übereinander mit Bohrhaken (oder eine matte die automatisch hochfährt).
Btw wir wollten vielleicht bald mal bissle im Franken bouldern. Gibts da tips fuer gute Gebiete, wo man Tier und Mensch nicht so sehr stört?

A lot of rubber stays on wood, and after some time it makes this holds impossible to hold

Not sure whether or not @lucaa4480 gave you the correct answer but I think it is correct. On the moon board, which has a mixture of wood and PU holds, the rule "no foot on wood" exists as well. And, if you ever had a moon board session before, you see why this rules makes sense. From a wood hold you just can't brush off the rubber residues like you could from a PU hold. Over time all the wood holds become black and filthy.
That is correct. It destroys the wooden holds and it gives us nightmares

Supergeil! Freut mich total, dass hier wieder Leben reinkommt. Dort habe ich 2003 das Klettern angefangen. 😊 Für mich und sicher viele andere Nostalgie pur.
i've seen you wear the Oasis and was wondering how well they hold up. cause i hear the closure system can get worn through quite quickly and i don't really wanna spend 160 bucks on something that wont even last a year y'know? that the sole needs changing is obvious but that's an easy fix. it's just the rest of the durability that concerns me

they break if you yank them, get LVs if you have narrow feet so you won't have to tighten them so hard

@alexandermegos8129 - you are missing a crack feature in the gym. I can understand that most indoor sport climbers simple overlook that aspect of climbing but since you're an outdoorsy person I would assume that you do indeed know how to climb cracks (and not just the wideboyz).
