He was thrown into the job much sooner than he would have liked. When he came as a player he would have been one of our best players at the club - if not THE best. But we lost him as a player once he became manager. He was given virtually no resources, didn’t get a transfer window. Don’t forget he was a rookie manager getting virtually no help from ‘upstairs’ and dealing with players who regularly weren’t getting paid. It’s hardly surprising that it didn’t work out! No Latics manager since has had any success since either so it wasn’t just down to him.
I was only really injuries and fitness issues that stopped Dunny from being a top top player, he was in an England u21's side with the likes of Paul Robinson, Jamie Carragher, Ledley King, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Michael Carrick, Matt Jansen etc. and it was Dunn who a lot of people thought was the great hope from that team. Technically one of the best English players in PL era with the ball at his feet, but he never stayed fit long enough to maintain that upwards trajectory. But even as a Blackburn fan I don't think he is going to cut it as a manager, two gigs he has had and neither have been very good.
Just flicking through the various RUclips football interviews, and seen three different Oldham-related disasters (I didn't even search for "Oldham" in any way) - namely Wheater, Scholes and Dunn. The place seems like a slow-motion car-crash, and the sort of club you'd unfortunately expect to go full Bury/Darlo/Rushden/Macclesfield/Hereford/Halifax/Chester/Aldershot/Maidstone if they ever dropped out of the league.
Oldham have been a joke for decades They got relegated out of prem Spent ten years in bottom half of championship Got relegated to League one Spent ten years in bottom half of that League , then got relegated to League 2 We are about five years away from.burton Albion Vs Accrington Stanley in premier League playoff final and bury Vs Oldham in fa vase final
@@matthewwatson9726 I think dropping is OK, so long as the original club stays alive. Torquay and Stockport went regional and returned in the same form, but these phoenix clubs don't feel the same. They are kinda plastic.
@@Jackaljkljkl so the original club that owners (with no connection to area and club) drove into the ground feels real but a fan owned phoenix club doesn't??.. interesting
To be fair he was pretty much spot on. Found it hugely entertaining to listen to.

Met this lad in Tenerife in 2000 with all his pals from Blackburn , top bloke
Holden was at my home town team for a few years. I liked him as a player
Fantastic to do that for the local school
Was a crap manager at Oldham, he ain't a manager never is never will. I still like the bloke heart in the right place.
Ask Exeter or any other Team we have played at and see what they think of Oldham Fans!!! They love us!!
Cause they do ,it's three points every time you turn up

@@matthewwatson9726 No, it just feels brand new, with zero history.
Exeter fans took over their club, and it didn't need it to die first.

You do understand that phoenix clubs are nothing new
Good lad
what era was David Dunn in charge ?????
The era when he was Oldham manager.
If he would have started himself the games, he could have done a Toobin.
At least it wasn’t your hammys that went for a change 😂
Thanks for scoring against the filth though Up the Blues
Barrow 3 Oldham 4. Enough said. 🦉⚽️
well done on scraping a result against a newly promoted side
I understand it was awful for you but it was shite to watch. You were unlucky but should hav3 stayed as a player.

A swear box 📦 would have generated about £60 which is about the price this clown was worth
AtK Lad so you’re saying Dunny is worth £54 more than Brett?
