I just bought one of these mini excavators and will be doing this before I even start using it. Thanks! And looking forward to future videos on this machine!
Just picked up a mini excavator and i installed a 12" fan blowing the hot air out. I primarily did this because i dont want dirt and dust to get pulled into the engine bay. It works surprisingly well in cooling the excavator. I also used heat shield under the seat to keep my butt cooler while using it.
@lukerhoda1277 true... but a very minimal amount gets pulled in versus the amount that would be blown directly into the engine compartment, and the amount of heat that it has reduced outweighs any negative. It's actually help keep the hydraulic oil stay cooler.
Wish my disconnect was accessible from the top next to the operator seat. Mine is under the deck so have to lift the seat to access. May add a switch. Great idea
Love the heat shield idea! Ive thought about taking the pull start housing off to expose the motor cooling fins, and running some sort of duct to the side of the excavator where cool air can come in. Seems like it just brings in hot air the way it is. Raising the seat up a couple of inches to let heat escape might be a modification I do in the near future. Also, My hudraulics get way too hot, so i will most likely be installing a oil cooler, and a flexible 200 watt solar panel to mount to the top of the canopy for another fan or to keep the battery charged. My bigest complaint about the machine is how slow the tracks are. Especialy if the drive motors get hot. NOTE: These machines have a 9 amp charging stator, so do not exceed this or you'll start to drain the battery. Is why ill probably install a solar panel.
Thanks for the video Luke. I have the same machine (under a different name) and am finding it runs very hot. I am looking to do a fan like this or maybe a hydraulic cooler with a fan to do double duty.
Update, ive put 6 hours of hard work on this machine since installing fan. It has stayed cool and done a good job. I need to do another oil change and grease everything. Thanks for watching 👀
Have you had trouble with the hydraulic oil getting too hot? Mine gets so hot the hydraulics slow down significantly after a few hours of constant operation.
I just got my fans in and will be installing 2 with the push pull technique. Each fan will be mounted inside the housing facing out. There is a spare wires that is not being used inside under the throttle and key switch area. It is there for extra lights. One wire is hot all the time and is hooked to the battery disconnect and another that is switched by the light switch. They also have a ground in the bundle. Saves you from having to run wires. There is room inside the engine compartment to mount the fans so you don't have to worry about damaging the fan while you are operating the excavator in heavily cluttered areas.
I had no idea about the extra light connection. I'll have to check it out. I know i could have mounted it inside. I still like how i did it. To each their own.
They are nice machines for about half the cost. I purchased one about a month ago from Denny. I had mine shipped down to TX. It works perfect the work I do.
I have a HT-10BZ on the way. It comes with a hydraulic oil cooler. I also am planning on adding a fan on the left side, and I am going to try for an inside fan. Thanks for the video - it helps to see how other address the problem. I am wondering if that aluminum housing you build around the exhaust will block airflow and make it too hot. What if you cut the left side off and let the fan blow are over and out the back. Right now you have no airflow over the exhaust. Might that cause problems?
My theory is the exaust/muffler is a big contributer to heating engine compartment. The aluminum housing is helping to direct the radiant heat from muffler out of the engine compartment and is shielding the fuel tank from the heat. Machine runs good and stays cool.
Nice job Luke. I'm getting ready to buy a couple of fans for my Miva. It has pilot controls which puts all the hyd. lines right in the way for mounting the fans on the side like you did, I just might have to put it on the outside like you did. I'm thinking about a 9-inch fan on the side and out the back mounting a 12-inch fan. I thought about bolting it to the grill, but I don't know how I'll end up attaching it because of the curvature of the grill.
Thanks Mark, the 7in fan seems to be the right fit for these 1ton machines. I think the hydraulic cooler with a small fan blowing on it will be my nxt upgrade. Good luck with your Mini Ex.
The nxt day i planted a dozen 2 gal trees. I dug nice, big and deep holes with the Mini then tilled in 60lbs of compost in each hole. It ran great the seat did not heat up like it used too and the gas tank was nice and cool after running machine. Hydraulic pump was hot. Not sure what optimum running temp for the hydraulics are.
Any concern about the fan using too much power and over working the charging system? Mine came with a hydraulic oil cooler with a fan on a switch. I’m wondering if adding another fan for the engine will cause electrical issues
In just got one of these, hydraulic oil level seems to be low on that little glass bubble. It is below the red dot and the tank is already full. Do you know if this is normal ???
Great video! Looking to put fans on my unit myself I just reached 5 hrs on it and am looking to do an oil change. Do you happen to know if these engines have an oil filter? And what weight oil did you put in?
this mod could have easily been kept internal for a cleaner look and not getting hit during operation though...I've got a similar internal mod in the works on my H12
Good luck with your install. You will not get the same c.f.m airflow if you go internal. These machines do not move fast so im not really worried about dust or the fan getting "hit"
you should pull air into the sides so that it escapes along with the exhaust in the rear to create a pressure flow. pushing out the sides risks pullin ghte exhaust heat back in
I've seen a few people Mount them without cutting the metal out. They mount it on the inside, and you can't even tell it's there now you have nothing to protect your fans.

If you exaust air out it still has to draw in air and dirt from outside.

It will get hot but i have not run into any performance issues. I usually run it for an hour then take a little break.@skeller0160
good job, i would close the holes upper the fan, to can not circulate (a circl like 2-3 inch airflow next to the fan)

They are, just have to be prepared to spend some time wrenching on them
Half the cost!? More like one-fifth the cost!
Im a big fan of the Chinese mini excavator. You are a risk taker. It looked like you used your wife’s good scissors.
Can you please post a link to the fan you used?

Does the electrical system have an alternator or anything to maintain battery voltage?
I believe its a magneto that charges battery
What type of oil does it take?
I use 10w 30 for motor and still run stock hydraulic oil

It ran great the seat did not heat up like it used too and the gas tank was nice and cool after running machine. Hydraulic pump was hot. Not sure what optimum running temp for the hydraulics are.
I’ve read you want to keep hydraulic temp under 180.
Any concern about the fan using too much power and over working the charging system? Mine came with a hydraulic oil cooler with a fan on a switch. I’m wondering if adding another fan for the engine will cause electrical issues
No the fan does not draw many watts. I have not heard of charging issues even with multiple fans hooked up
Does the engine make enough amps to keep the battery charged or do you plug a charger in when not using?
I believe it uses a magneto to charge everything while running. No need to plug in.
Is the fan pulling hot air out or pushing air into the engine compartment
I am probably going to do this but add an in line switch so it's not running all the time.
I was thinking about doing that. Dont need the fan when its below 50 outside
thermostadt!

The hydraulic oil should be at least half way up the sight glass.
@@lukerhoda1277 thank you.
Were did u buy them
Ebay look up agrotk store

Don't think it motor oil, think it's like a seed oil. This way it's not classed as hazmat.
What kind of hydraulic fluid do you use?
I havent changed it yet.
your going to need the fan!!! I boiled my fuel and had to replace the carb!
I believe it. Now i have a leak on left drive motor and my right joystick developed a ton of play.
The play in joystick was a loose nut on the linkage. Tightened it up, good as new.
You take ceramic wool. It good
You do know your ingine fan is blowing in the direction of your cooling fan best pull hot air out just saying don't trap the heat
I am going with 2 7 in fans
Why not pull the air out. There enough space to pull air around the motor.
I would check the swing arm gear and make sure it is tight
you should pull air into the sides so that it escapes along with the exhaust in the rear to create a pressure flow. pushing out the sides risks pullin ghte exhaust heat back in
You should tack weld nuts on back..to remove fan for service.
Tu n' as pas niaiser avec ça toi zip cutter dans le body😅
Should add prolube next change proof is in the pudding
Il a pas moyen de linstaller parr en dedans du paneau sans tout couper ya deja des troues pour qui pouce sont air ?
I've seen a few people Mount them without cutting the metal out. They mount it on the inside, and you can't even tell it's there now you have nothing to protect your fans.
Less air restriction my way, what does the fan need protection from?
@@lukerhoda1277 a lot of people clear trails with them, so the brush nearby could easily damage them . Accidents happen that's all I'm saying.
@@lukerhoda1277 Is the fan being exposed to rain an issue?
