  • This is a new series of videos called TODD'S TIPS....that we are going to make as we need them. A customer is reinstalling his Wells Gardner 4900 monitor chassis we repaired...and we decided to make this video to assist him in re-installation and at the same time, post it here to help others to see how easy it is to take out and put back in! This also shows you how to DISCHARGE the high voltage in the tube! Remember, to do ALL of this with the machine UNPLUGGED!!

    Excellent tutorial! u should add 'how to discharge a crt monitor' to the video title and description so it comes up in searches. ive been watching lots of monitor repair videos and found this one by accident. i have two old driving machines, Spyhunter and APB, and have been watching repair videos in prep for some restorations.

    Thanks for the reminder tutorial - it's been 15 or so years since I've had to pull a chassis. Have to swap out a 4900 today, so this has been very helpful. Thanks for posting!

      And of course I get out there, and the other chassis has a different power connector and requires the entire monitor be pulled from the cabinet. So I am taking it off site tomorrow. Argh.

    I wish so much that I had watched this video a week ago! I have a WG4700 that was DOA, and I recapped it, and it's so close to working, but after being on for a minute it crackles out, the screen collapses into a line then dies completely. This happens every time you turn it on and seems to work longer the longer it's been off. Watching this video, I saw you mention the big resistors, so I just now went back to the chassis and saw if they were loose. Sure enough, one of them is so loose that you can pull it up and down. I'm going to remove and resolder it, but it's too late, I already bought a new replacement chassis. Now I need to find another 25" CRT tube to put this on! I do have a machine that needs a monitor...

      yes...so many of these electronics are simply cold solder connections!! A quick check and reheat on a workbench can help so many come back to life!

      It definitely needed the cap kit and new flyback, too, though. Whoever had this neo-geo last did terrible things to it. Cut a bunch of button wires, did a poor job of fixing the chassis, and I need to get the 4-slot board serviced somewhere as it only comes up with the test screen or the crosshatch pattern with a blue border. Amazingly, though, the EL panels still work, barely.

    Hi. Can a flyback be tested by a multimeter?

  • @crs9128

    Is it necessary to discharge a monitor before you remove it from whatever cabinet it's in? I plan to replace a monitor in an arcade game sometime soon or in the future.

    • @tntamusements
      @tntamusements  9 лет назад +1

      crs9128 No...only when you want to take the chassis itself off it. We just move entire monitor out of machine and put on shelf or "hang it up" as you see in our videos!

    Great WG4900 video. One question, I'm trying to adjust the screen on a wg4900, but the horizontal (l/r) are too wide. I have tried using the white horizontal adjust knob, and putting it all the way left and all the way right. Is this common, and if so, how can I fix it? Are those "master overide" pins the answer?

    • @tntamusements
      @tntamusements  8 лет назад

      did you try to change the capacitors?

    • @edn199
      @edn199 8 лет назад

      TNT Amusements Inc Yes, I did the "normal" monitor cap kit. I was reading on Bob Roberts page that the symptoms I'm having, it might be a good idea to do the horizontal width area with new caps as well. It seems like the horizontal width is not something that goes bad in a lot of the monitors, and it's not in a "normal" cap kit set. I think I should do the horizontal cap kit....do you agree?

    Is a Wells Gardner a manufacture that's something like a company that's makes cvt security monitors? Your crew kicksass. Never heard of a WG till I started watching TNT.

      They are an American company that has been making monitors for arcade games since 1979--perhaps earlier. There three original chassis--the 4600, the 4900, and the 7000 are perhaps the workhorses of the entire industry. There U2000 to U5000 are slightly less reliable, but once rebuilt, they are terrific.
      Now when I say reliable, we are looking at 35 YEARS of service with the oldest chassis---we I still feel are terrific---on a one to ten, these are ALL 9 and 10. Sadly, with the demise of the picture tube, they have moved on to other things. I purchased the last 30 19" wells gardner monitors made---I have most of them in my warehouse still crated, for future needs!

      TNT Amusements Inc 50 years from now, say if I run into an arcade game I love, but the monitor has on-screen burn in, will I be able to replace these monitors with an L.E.D. monitor substitute if I can't find an appropriate replacement?

    Hi Todd, My MK2 monitor is dying, WG K7000.. any tips for me?.. Its got a nice picture but was flicking black on me just for a moment, slight wiggle around the edge.. and a horizontal issue.. if you move your guy to the right side of the screen he gets skinnier.. dragon logo on right side of the character select screen has looked like an egg since I bought the machine a few years ago. Now my friend says it's not coming on.. I havent gone to go have a look yet.. but I've been online here writing down notes from your videos trying to see what i may need to fix this thing. Any help would be apreciated, and I hope you're feeling better every day since your Heart Surgery. Take care.. write me back when you want - your facebook friend, and big fan of TNT Amusements. Every once and a while the Blue color go's out on my arcade . do you know how to fix that ?

    • @tntamusements
      @tntamusements  7 лет назад

      probably a cold solder connection on the header pins of the input on the monitor chassis, or the edge connector is a bit loose on the logic board.
