  • Dune Prophecy trailer breakdown and review. Having seen the Dune Prophecy trailer I am very excited for the new science fiction HBO Max show, based on Denis Villeneuve's Dune universe. In this video, I breakdown the trailer for Dune Prophecy and give you my thoughts on the new footage. What is your reaction to the Dune Prophecy trailer?
    Dune: Prophecy is an upcoming American science fiction television series set in the Dune universe created by Frank Herbert, for the streaming service Max. Focusing on the origins of the Bene Gesserit, an exclusive and powerful sisterhood who undergo intense physical training and mental conditioning to obtain superhuman abilities, it takes place approximately 10,000 years before the events of Herbert's novel Dune (1965) and serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve's Dune (2021). The series is produced by Legendary Television, with Alison Schapker serving as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

    The first trailer for Dune Prophecy trailer is here and it was a pretty solid first look at the Max show in Denis Villeneuve's Dune universe. What did you think of the first trailer?

    I just hope they follow DV's vision. That's literally all that matters to me. I hope that for any DUNE related project right now. He doesn't need to be the show runner. As long as they consult with him throughout the process. And don't stray from the path he's laying out for all of us.

    • @sammalla5238
      @sammalla5238 15 дней назад +4

      I'd agree but you don't wanna come off as a rip-off as well, they should definitely add their touch instead of just blindly following DV playbook

    • @carpeimodiem
      @carpeimodiem 15 дней назад +5

      @@sammalla5238 it's not a playbook. It's a cinematic universe. And a dream come true for a Dune fans. Making more and more by the millions. And that's NOT a rip off. It's supposed to fit with the films. It needs to follow everything perfectly. It's a prequel series to the trilogy.
      And the way Hollywood executives like to DESTROY quality properties... trying to intervene in the creative process. Attempting to insert their own agendas. THAT'S why we need Denis everywhere Dune goes! To protect the integrity of the IP. To ensure it's consistent. And the continuity is ROCK SOLID with the films.
      Don't get it twisted... he is the only one we can count on in that regard. He has a big enough name, and has been successful enough to stand up to any suit that tries to mess with his productions. But others don't have that luxury. No matter how much they love Dune. They have to play ball or they get replaced by those suits.

      @@sammalla5238Thank you! I like Dune and Dune 2 but honestly everyone treating him like a Messiah is stupid. I'm thankful he helped get me into the books but honestly every adaptation has had some great aspects and weaknesses. The CoD mini series is fantastic even though it looks ropey and the Lynch adaptation was really fun and weird even though the ending was butchered

    something about the look feels off, like slightly cheaper, like _Game of Thrones_ -y… I think it’s something about the lighting.
    I know it’s probably unrealistic to expect a television show to look as good as a AAA Hollywood production, but it’s just weird 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @crowkangi

    im skeptical but also there could be a chance to really explore the universe in subtle ways with the much longer screen time as a series. ill take it. I dig how the visual style is lifted from Denis adaptation. who knows? maybe they could push Denis to be even more braver for Dune Messiah. I want it to be dark and weird.

      It is based on the sisterhood of dune from the schools of dune trilogy, written by the son of frank Herbert

  • @Deecember16
    @Deecember16 15 дней назад +7

    Is this going to be an anthology show that time jumps between seasons with new casts and characters? I can’t see any reason to drag out the history by focusing solely on the birth of the sisterhood. Each season should (could) capture a pivotal period between the Butlerian Jihad and the events of DUNE: Part One. That’s ten thousand years of history to contend with. Each season could be set a thousand years after the previous one allowing for 9 or 10 seasons; although it is unlikely to get more than 3 considering the platform’s track record.

    • @sammalla5238
      @sammalla5238 14 дней назад

      I think two more seasons covering the Butlerian Jihad & perhaps, the origins and arrival of the Zensunni(Fremen) on Dune/Arrakis should be apt
      The Jihad would be a difficult segment to adapt if they want to follow Brian's take on it, expensive too probably

    It’s weird that they took Villeneuves visuals when the show should be set thousands of years in the past. Could have invented their own stuff.
    And the source material isn’t great, I hope they don’t follow it closely.

    Footage is one thing, story is quite another...
    I share your wariness of a serialized adaptation for the small screen of a sequel not written by the original author of Dune. That's more than enough reasons for wariness in my books.
    But as always, I'm ready to give them a chance. Still: after what I've seen of similarly serialized adaptations-by-committee in Foundation (and especially the awful Rings of Power), it may be a hard sell.

    Brian Herbert is not his father. The book was ok. However all the books written by Brian and I forgot the co authors name felt like they were meant to be made into movies so this might be pretty cool. I hated the way they wrapped up the original 6 books that Frank Herbert wrote. Brian claimed that they referred to franks notes about his intentions for the final part of the series but I call bs. Clearly the main antagonists were face dancers not the ever mind. It is what it is. Hopefully they capture the essence of Dune like DV, but I'm not holding my breath.

    I’ve appreciated the Dune universe since I was a kid but I’m not a fanatic. I really liked the new films, especially the second one, but there’s nothing in this HBO series trailer that excites me. There’s something about it that just seems flat. Hopefully I’m proven wrong

      @@perenniallachrymosity276 - he’s not listed among the producers on the Wikipedia page, though Jon Spaihts is. I guess he wrote the pilot.
      of course they’ll try to emulate the feel of Villeneuve’s movies, but I imagine that’s a lot harder than it sounds. the show runner is Alison Schapker, who I’ve never heard of… but she’s been involved in a whole lot of shows that started out great, only to collapse over time, such as _Lost_ and _Westworld._ hope that doesn’t happen here.

    For the persons that are rolling their eyes that this is another woke show with Girl Bosses.........don't go there. Frank Herbert created an incredible universe where the Bene Gesserit are a major player in the Imperium. They also only teach The Way to sisterhood females. That Lady Jessica taught Paul The Way was a breach of the rules.
    Look forward to watching this.
