I think 2022 is firmly a win for Royal Enfield for this market sector of bike. BSA will always be seen as a runner up now. It's already June so they might as well regroup and come back in 2023 early with a strong image and maybe their predicted electric bike in the pack too. As for 2022, sadly I think they've blown it. I'm going for a Royal Enfield.

Well done! Can not go wrong. Bought mine in 2021 and here - down under RE 2022 plated bikes are $1000 plus more expensive.
If the Gold star is close to RE price I will buy one! Love my bullet 500 classic - single power is more fun to ride than twin, but the GT is a keeper so I guess I’m hoping for a threesome love affair🤔

Another good watch 🙏 knowing what goes into developing a motorcycle, I’d rather see BSA do it right the first time round even if it means a 2023 release it would be so easy for them to get this wrong and that’s damaged to a brand that’s so hard to come back from just look at old Norton and how hard new Norton is having to work to repair that reputation and brand credibility, so I say take as much time as is needed BSA and do it right the first time 🙏🏍🇬🇧🏍

Great video production. Well done. Good questions.
I live in Canada with a riding season much shorter than In the UK. BSA had, at best, a shaky reputation when I was a teen and looking to buy and dreaming of life with only 1 motorcycle. I knew not one person with multiple bikes. I looked at BSA & Triumph in 1968. Both dealerships were 300 miles from my home. Under EVERY new bike on the Show Room floor was a metal cookie pan containing various sized oil slicks. Each bike was an Exon Valdez oil spill tragedy waiting and promising to happen. They looked amazing but Quality was not a word anyone, even sales people used. Just a decade before that, everything from the land of the rising sun was called Japanese Junk! My elder brother bought a Bridgestone 175 twin and I bought a Kawasaki 350 Avenger. Both were 2 stokes so they burned oil but they did not leak any.
Fast forward to today. I am 70 years old. BSA and Triumph have no such legacy with 99% of new buyers here. It has been the amazing rebirth of Triumph and the amazing legacy of Royal Enfield that have set the stage for any rebirth potential for BSA here. But the Norton story fails to build confidence in a “ British Brand” alone. It will take the bikes and their own performance that will win the day. To get the price down, they will need the volumes like the Indian market (or some other Asian market) can provide or they will need to match quality and magic of Triumph. Only Suzuki has dared to build a 650 single so Mahindra has chosen well a bike that just might give them a way into the retro market with no direct competitor. It will be their frame and suspension design that will determine the feel of the bike, and then the engine and brakes abilities yo stop and go that will add to the selling formula. That is a lot to get right. It will take time. Better to delay the launch. RE did with the Interceptor. Kawasaki did with the W650 and then the W800’s and Triumph has more models of Bonneville that proves you do not need pin point targeting when a shot gun can work to hit the market sweet spot.
I have a Royal Enfield 500 Single. I bought it new at the end of the 2019 model year. I could have had an Interceptor for only 20% more. A new bike could be BSA. How it feels and sounds will matter most for me.
Back to your video. Despite how some comment about how you “ hit the mail on the head”, do not do a channel switch to carpentry. Motorcycling needs you more. Thanks.

Hi all, I live in Australia and I did write on one of the other motorcycle forums that perhaps the new BSA Gold Star may not even come to Australia
I don’t believe there are any BSA dealers or even a BSA network here in Australia
Global supply chains problems are effecting all industries currently
The BSA Gold Star 650 is one of the bikes that is potentially on “my next purchase list”
If the BSA Gold Star 650 does eventually come to Australia we may not see it until the end of 2022? I also agree that BSA has been very light on for any updates!

Based on that and the initial look of the Gold Star, I am very interested in buying but think I will wait until 2023 to see how the first year (if we’re lucky) of production has gone. They've missed the spring bike buying boat. I fancied one but it's April and so my cash is already in Royal Enfield's greasy palm for a new Classic 350. Full dealer network and getting excellent reviews. I wish BSA well but they need to improve communication - half the problem for me was the lack of information, otherwise I might have held off buying the RE.

I pick up a new RE Interceptor Mark 2 on Monday. I have a few bikes and am having to sell one of them to facilitate the new Mk2. However, to answer the main question, I am still very much hanging out for the new BSA... a chrome version of it of course. It will most likely mean selling another bike in order to obtain said BSA but this is exactly the sort of bike I want to own and ride. I'm in Brisbane Australia so no issues with only riding in a 'warm' season! :D I can wait. The main issue for us is are they going to sell the bike here at all! I am sure there would be a big market for it... but no word yet on whether or not we get this bike in Aus.

I think it would be very reasonable for BSA to leak information such as the neighborhood of the price (which should be the same as the RE Interceptor 650), what's happening so far as the dealer network is concerned, and some real world previews (similar to reviews but with the understanding that these are pre-release impressions).

I'll probably end up with a Royal Enfield 350 Classic chrome since the BSA isn't available and the lengthy silence might mean it's better to see how things pan out a while after the release. The RE Classic chrome isn't available in the US yet either but it is in the UK and so far people have only good things to say. The BSA 650 thumper has a lot more power at nearly the same weight as the RE 350 and it all seems groovy but can't wait to see how pleasant the engine, clutch, shifting and suspension et al really turn out to be.

You in the UK have a LONG riding season compared to our season in central Canada. I do not expect to see the new BSA on our shores before the 2023 season. That will give you enough time to work out the worst bugs for us! Thank you. I have a RE Classic 500 that I purchased at the end of 2019 riding season just after the Interceptor arrived here but I bought the Thumper I wanted for years. If the bike proves well made, well priced in Interceptor territory and pretty much glitch free, the biggest obstacle to the BSA will be how it looks and feels. Getting to test ride a new bike here is pretty rare but beyond that, the Mother of all Radiators appears to look more like something off a Mac Truck. I hope they design something better than that. It seems more like an afterthought than a design triumph like the bike concept is. The designers could do better. There is no reason that radiators must hang in front of the engine. Come on! The people who thought up using the frame as an oil tank would never accept the monstrosity on this bike. At least put a good star shaped radiator cap on it instead of one off an old Mini!

After many years away from riding bikes in 2022 I made my comeback! Wanted a proper authentic retro modern classic … The RE Interceptor was at the top of my list after doing much research , trips to dealers, test rides ect…. Now I was gonna hold off buying the Interceptor until I could look at the BSA gold star… as soon as I realised that there was going to be a long delay I went straight out and purchased the Interceptor. Now I think BSA have made a mistake not sending out real updates on the delay… supply chain is in a very bad place at the moment - I know as I manage manufacturing for a living . However if the delay was just down to supply chain why not just come out and say that is the case! Everyone else is. So it lead me to believe there is an issue with the design or something, at this point I get a little worried because I get the feeling that they will at some point rush the bike out to not lose the summer riding season… it will be interesting to see how this bikes do when people start buying them. Having said that I hope they do well and end up living up to expectations … expectations that have now been set by Royal Enfield! My Interceptor is nothing short of fantastic and arguably the best value for money bike on the market! This BSA is going to have to be really good to compete in this market space now!

Having the starter motor in front of the cylinder spoils it completely and that fake pushrod tunnel looks ridiculous, as does the fat exhaust. I think BSA made a big mistake. They should have used as their template the BSA Rocket Goldstar 650 twin, a far more desireble bike than a big single which will appeal to a very limited market. I personally will wait . I'm not losing riding time most of us are after the BSA as a second bike or 3rd etc . I want one because I want one . Not a Enfield or something else . I'd rather wait than have them rush it through .

I love thumpers. Currently in the garage live several XT/TT 500's, an FT500, SRX600, and TT600. I also regulary ride a newer DR650. I'll never have an original BSA Goldstar but would be very interested in taking a serious look at this new Goldstar. For me nothing compares to the feel and sound of a large bore single cruising through the foothills. I'm hoping the price does not exceed 6K.

I think the total silence will probably mean you won't be able to take delivery until June / July at the earliest. Like some others have said they shouldn't rush it out if they are having issues right etc it would be more damaging to the bike or brand in the end. Maybe we'll be able to get a test ride before the season is out, but for me the bike would be an addition rather than a replacement so I can wait - impatiently :-)

Until I saw your video, I had no idea this was happening. That is how bad the publicity has been about this. I loved the original Goldstar and I would have been interested but have now almost settled on the Interceptor which is a tried and tested machine, with good reviews.

I gave up waiting myself, I saw this bike at motorcycle live the end of last year, I sat on one, asked loads of questions and like yourself was expecting an early 2022 release. Sadly absolutely nothing since not even a test of a pre-production prototype, no news whatsoever, really disappointed, so they have lost a potential buyer as I am now the very happy owner of the fabulous Benelli 502C. It does make me wonder if it will ever appear, the way it's looking probably not.

I worry that a bike that ends up being rushed onto the market, may arrive with quality control issues. In the early days of the Royal Enfield comeback, they had their problems too - but look at them now!
I loved the look of the Gold Star at the show, but I think if there is a need to buy ASAP, the Interceptor would definitely be the one for me.
BSA needed to be ready and on the shop floor when they said they would in March. It’s a shame and it may be for reasons outside of their control, but ironically, their announcement of a new bike and subsequent delays, will probably help Royal Enfield sales this year!

Really fancied buying the BSA however I am a little suspicious that there might have been some unforeseen mechanical problems that might have arisen and am now prepared to wait a while and make sure the bike will live up to my expectations and also see what the professional road testers will make of it?

I'm hanging on to decide between the Gold Star or Interceptor. The latter seems awesome from reviews and can only hope the BSA can match it. Really want the Gold Star but didn't like the pipe cover or radiator size. Also heard the quality was down on RE but that may be as it was a pre-production machine. Anyway for others information, I joined their mailing list and this is what they have said (hope this may help some to wait and see):
'We hear you. You want the new Gold Star now. You want to soak up
the early riding days of the season on a new chapter in history. And of
course, we want that for you too. More than anything.
But, just like the ride itself, we want to get geared up for it
    and do it properly.

The magnitude of what we’re doing - relaunching not just a
motorcycle but an entire brand from scratch - is no walk in the park (or
ride through the Cotswolds, for that matter). We’ve taken so long in the
creation of the new Gold Star, considering every detail at every stage,
that we refuse to let ourselves and ultimately you down by hitting the
    starter button too soon.
We’ve been working our socks off getting the bike ready for production
and establishing a great dealer network across the UK. And we’re
getting close now, with the first bikes expected to arrive into our
UK dealer network in May. Stick with us on this final stage of the
journey and we promise you a lifetime of incredible memories together.

Bought my Interceptor in November, then the Goldstar was announced & and I though nooooooooooooo. Then I saw it and I thought yuck
Hope they're spending some of the extra time doing something about the design of that honking great rad and the hideous downpipes. If it comes out as it was at the show there's no chance I'll have one, if it's much improved I'll get one in the future so the delay doesn't affect me. Price will be interesting, I'm guessing it'll be 1k more than the Enfields
Meanwhile, I've commuted on my RE all through the winter & it still looks perfect, now I'm looking forward to those warm, dry days when I can get out and properly stretch it's chain

On Interceptor you have the aftermarket established. Also makes you wonder if that downpipe can be upgraded the way it looked.I guess you'll de cat it anyway & a aftermarket pipe be smaller & look more proportionate.Probably go for a aftermarket aluminum radiator that slots in between rails with a -10° thermostat. Those 2 mods be what you'd what to do to it after run in.
More power, cooler radiator & better & slimmer.Be interesting to see final product.

I have an interest in the RE 350 Classic, would rather have a 500, available as a Trails bike from RE, so the Gold Star piqued my interest. But I am just looking at vapors currently. neither is available here locally at this posting in late April.

I think price is going to be crucial and needs to be less than the Interceptor. I kinda envisaged this as filling the space between the Meteor/Classic and the Interceptor. Frankly, if it has been a 500 priced at £5000/£5500, I would have been more interested.

  • @sussexbikerpillion

Delay is wanting to get it right. If it fails bad reviews it’s done. Tried the pre production interceptors and was mightily impressed. Knew it was a winner within 10 mins. Think the initial production bikes where of a lesser quality but stepped up now. If it’s better in some form than an R.E. And it needs to have an edge not like for like.,people will pay a bit more of a premium for it ?
You get what you pay for. The U.K. market is a minnow in comparison to the Asian market short riding season etc. so probably not a major concern for them. I will hang on myself as could be a new gem. Hopefully we will get a first ride soon.
I reckon they are still tweaking, can’t get to euro five ? RE had ex triumph in development 😂

What BSA did wrong was to launch the bike as a model at the NEC and then to go very quiet about the actual product... If they had launched it as a "concept" bike and then spent this time teasing the actual bikes it would have made far more sense and kept people excited. What they have done is said "here is the new bike" and then in the months that have followed released nothing relevant. We don't know what the performance is, no idea of a price and don't even know what it sounds like. I haven't seen a single clip of it running apart from what bsa used for the launch video... It's been truly cr*p marketing!

If you’re BSA, you’ve a new bike, need a new dealer network, need a new factory, you’re not looking to sell large quantities this year. 2022 is the year to get ready for 2023. It’s a year of learning. You don’t need to worry about meeting seasonal buying times. Anything in H1 would be fine for them.

    • @WildlifeMoto
      @WildlifeMoto  2 года назад

All fine, but BSA is a new brand looking to build trust in a highly competitive market. They published a release date and then missed it with very little communication. That’s not a great start.

@@WildlifeMoto totally agree with you. They shouldn’t have set a date, and should be sharing details drip drip drip.

Frankly, if you can't wait a while longer for this bike, then I question your committment to the brand. The whole point of this re-launch is that it's the revival of another iconic British manufacturer. There are some great bikes out there and you can place an order for one right now and be sure not to miss the 'riding season'. As someone who rides all year round, another few weeks on last years bike isn't such a hardship.

So you would’nt touch a bike that’s conceived, R and D’ed and designed by a British company that pay UK tax and employ British engineers and designers cos it’s it’s got production facilities in Taiwan? It’s also looking to shift some production back to the UK. As the owner of a UK engineering company I can assure you that the component supply base in the UK is all but dead, to survive and be competitive UK engineering companies have to make real life decisions to carry on. My relatively small £12,500,000 turn over company stuff’s £3,000,000 into the UK tax coffers annually and employs 40 people directly plus many others indirectly, and no I’m not a wealthy man just a grafter. People like you need to get real and understand what a great job Triumph has done, they punch way above their weight and deserve to be recognized for they success story that they are. Off you go old chap and buy another German/Japanese/Chinese bike and explain to your kids why there’s no engineering jobs for them in the UK and why they pay so much personal tax cos there’s no British owned companies putting money into the exchequer!
