What about having a RUclips channel? I guess, it's pretty common too, but what if the channel is related to your business or education or, for example, some social problems? And does some recognition mater? Like the amount of followers or views
Thank you for the video by the way, i always thought that volunteering hours and school clubs are really good for application and i was worried I don't have it What about a job? Not internship, also not McDonald's or something like that How that extracurricular would be estimated?
I've been working as a decorator/painter and photo retoucher, which are party related to my major Would it be valuable if I explain what I've learned and how this is going to help me in the chosen field?
Love your videos, keep it up bro! BTW can you talk about Diversity essay? What are the differences between it and PS? Should/can you tell about a related EC in diversity essay like in PS?
this was super helpful! i was wondering about my sport. i am a varsity cheerleader (a more niche sport) however i don’t know if ivy’s or colleges are even looking for that? i won state last year which might help the activity but i just wanted your input
Another question. What if I participated in some of rigorous (where if u score >50% u get a medal) international olympiads but got very low rank? like below 70%
I think both fit in between average and above average. Both are super common and relatively easy to do, but they definitely will help your application.
Hello! I would like to ask about musical instruments by bringing by example. I graduated art school with two diplomas - violin and piano, I am good at both. This will be second year that I participate an international musical competition and won it, last year they sent me musical equipments, this year we gonna create some projects with those equipment. Is this valuable for top univesities or not? It is not just I know how to play, I participated in national and international competitions Thanks
I can't tell you- ROTC is a very different type of EC and oftentimes requires a time commitment after college, and that is a much more personal decision. Do not do it for the sake of college applications.
About the volunteering part: I have been volunteering at religious places for almost 6 years. Raising funds, organising events, inviting religious speakers and feeding the poor as well. Will that not look good on college app??
@@davidlomelin Also about the LOR , does it have to be written in all fancy well crafted sentences like with imagery and all Or they prefer a more formal way of writing: straight to the point?
What is your background? (I mean like do u qualify for the reduced lunch program, u live in a rural area, first gen college, race/ethnicity, income class)
I sort of disagree with what you said about dual enrollments. Maybe you were talking about dual enrollments at a college as an extracurricular apart from regular school but I am currently taking 2 courses per semester instead of my regular school, so it’s not like I am spending time on coursework that I wouldn’t already be spending time on. Thoughts in this situation?
I think it is a pretty average activity (each school will probably have 10-15 people who run their own clubs, so it is pretty common), but it teaches a lot about getting things done
@@davidlomelin well that's kinda cool and my school has a lot of clubs like you said but all of them are run by teachers. Im nor sure but think i think it would be the first time a student wanted to establish a club in this school I'm international btw
It matters but it will not get you into a T10 school alone. With good grades and other ECs a T25 is possible, but from my understanding Eagle is not seen as exceedingly difficult to achieve from admissions perspectives.
As a 12th grade IB student, it's just rigor. The IB program is comparable to a typical high school program, only the courses are far more challenging. The system is designed so that some courses are taught at the standard level while others are taught at the higher level. You test in your 6 (occasionally 7) IB courses at the end of your senior year, about a month after the standard senior year ends. In regards to 'wasting time' when you could be doing more valuable things, I will agree that some things like the internal assessments and just homework in general do take quite a bit of time, but I feel that the trade off is worth it. My school, ranked in the top 10 of the United States, had admissions officers from schools such as Northwestern, Harvey Mudd, and Carnegie Mellon come in and they told us that on their 5 point scale, a student taking the full IB course will earn rather a 4 or 5 / 5 (based on whether they take 3 or 4 HL courses). (Also, the internal assessments I mentioned earlier are basically just extremely in depth studies into various subjects. For example, I was able to write a 2,000 word paper on the French Revolution, a 2,500 word lab report on the derivation of the Jerk when applying a magnetic force to a moving object, and a 4,000 word paper analyzing a French artifact for my Extended Essay.) All in all, the IB is just a different style of high school: the classes are harder than average and there are strenuous exams for a month at the end of your last year along with 6-7 internal assessments you will complete in your last two years of high school. These exams can help you save money by allowing you to gain some college credit.
Please make a video on how to get into MIT, even if you have below avg. Grades in High school and have not done any extracurricular in your high school days. And is there any possibility if i only bring 1580+ in my SAT.
I'd say that MIT gets thousands of applicants with perfect SAT/GPAs, and you need strong ECs to put yourself above the rest. I'll talk about my strategy in a video soon
I would say so, but barley. It depends what you do in the club- and there are so many founder/presidents of subject clubs that it is nothing new for top colleges
That is a loaded question- generally you need to have a faculty connection, but you can do it on your own (like I did) but it took me 6 months+ to get my first paper published in a student journal. I'd do more research online I can't just answer this question not knowing too much about you, but best of luck!
hi can i send my profile to you to review. i think i have a very strong profile with math competitions and a very strong demonstrated interested in CS especially machine learning and i have also done a couple of projects . i’m gonna be applying early now for the fall 2025 intake. the only thing that is lacking in my application is my grade 11 IB score. my grade 10 is 97% and 12 is also good.
Please comment any questions or disagreements you have! I'll be responding to every comment the best that I can 🤞
What an amazing video idea!

Great video! If you read this comment, where would you put Data Science (Kaggle) competitions? In the "Above Average" or "Top 1% of students" tier?
Love your videos, keep it up bro! BTW can you talk about Diversity essay? What are the differences between it and PS? Should/can you tell about a related EC in diversity essay like in PS?
You can, but don't force it. If an EC or your diversity contributes to your supps, add it, but it should not be the main focus of your essay.

I have no idea- you'd have to do more research on that yourself. If you like cheerleading I would just keep doing it anyways

I'm not too sure about that. It will definitely be good for your application, but maybe not amazing.
do you think that student council president is valuable at all? what about starting and founding your own club

Is competitive cubing for the WCA and organizing competitions a good idea
Just curious, does College Courses include actually attending a community college just for 2 semesters and not just taking a DC course?
By college courses I meant anything you spend outside of school. DC/AP/DE courses are good
out of curiosity, where would you place ROTC

It will! I was referring to people who are just trying to get 100 or 200 volunteer hours for no reason

I mention that in the video- it is 100% a good idea if it is a DE/AP course, but if you go outside of your regular school it is not worthwhile

Can you elaborate on scouts for those who do reach Eagle

Not an EC, but what's your take on the IB program? Does it make a difference or is it just a waste of time?
Not an expert, but from what I've heard it can be a waste of time. Do more research but you can probably do better things with your time
