You don't seem to get it. The fight was most likely in his mind. Clark was a sign that he was holding onto the good(the artificial kryptonites effects were wearing off) and he emerged as Superman

Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman were both Oscar winning A-List actors when Superman I was filmed, and Christopher Reeve was a relative unknown who looked good in the costume. Reeve made petty cash for the first two movies, but made more for 3 and 4.

Christopher Reeve really was paid in exposure (mostly)!

She may want to see the 1989 Batman movie, where Jack Nicholson (Joker) has top billing over Michael Keaton (Batman).

Yeah, Christopher Reeve was a fresh-faced newcomer in 1978 whereas Gene Hackman and Marlon Brando were already well-established big names by then. It would be like having someone straight out of college playing the lead role in a new movie but Robert Downey Jr. or Brad Pitt get top billing even if they're just playing supporting roles.

Technically, fractional cents do exist just thanks to division and rounding, and yeah, once conceivably access them via computer (you would need to). The real issue is that, it’s a pretty simple check (at least in the computer) to add up the total payroll and see that the missing money is missing, which is presumably why the internal corporate head accountant/financial officer finds out it’s missing pretty quickly. The fractional cent thing really only helps obscure where it went when using the same math.
Back then this was possibly more of a risk, but modern accounting software, where the developers are well aware of the plot lines of Superman III and Office Space, should have safeguards to make this scheme more difficult.
What’s unreal is Gus being able to instruct the computer like it understands natural English commands and this somehow being equivalent to him gaining root-level privileges and access for no reason.

Earlier Gus was complaining to his coworker/cotrainee about making less than $900/mo which wasn’t even after taxes/social security/etc. So $85,789 was more than 95 months of pay.
American society saw people as.. unusual if they hadn’t gotten married by 30 up to.. well into the ‘90s. It says they were the Class of ‘64 and, during this point in the ‘80s, although there were a growing number of people deviating from that ideal societal norm, there were still a LOT of people who felt.. dissatisfied (with themselves) for not having had successful marriages. Even almost 10 years later, our own Vice President criticized the tv show Murphy Brown for the portrayal of a working professional woman being a single mother as *not* being a bad thing. It took a lot of years to shed the stigma about not being married (for whatever reason), even just to the point we have so far.

You've got to complete the quadrilogy and react to "Superman 4: The Quest For Peace". If you though this movie was wacky and made no sense, you haven't seen anything yet. The forth one is the most unintentional hilarious of them all. That one actually is so bad that's it's kinda good. xD

Kissing people on the cheek to say hello is not weird. Also, most people from small American towns get married in their mid to late 20's, so that was perfectly natural for Lana to ask that question.

"make a movie about Superman and computers and not know how computers work".
Computers were a big craze at the time, with many people not knowing how they work, just being a new(ish) wonder that seemed to do anything. Comic books and comic book movies would take this to crazy degrees. Just like when Radiation was a wondrous thing to people, and in comics it gives you super powers which is not how radiation works either. They changed Spider-mans origin from being bitten by a radioactive Spider to "genetically engineered". Probably won't be long before that movie is called ridiculous because "that's not how genetic engineering works".

    • @gluuuuue
      @gluuuuue 2 года назад

I mean, once someone studies genetic engineering (or just contemplates how dna really works in terms of human development), yeah, that’s really not how it works. If dna is genetically engineered in the initial fertilized egg, then yeah, every cell in the body of the fully developed adult being grown/raised from that first cell would be completely different. Changing enough cells in an already fully grown adult human would be a lot more.. complex..

Margot Kidder and Gene Hackman were both very upset and vocal about their displeasure as to how the Producers the Salkinds treated Donner and it is rumored this is why Hackman doesn't appear in the movie and Kidder is only a cameo.

1984 were pretty funky. About 2 years before the computer mouse caught on - did you notice the lack of a mouse? Those office computers are not new. Looks like the prop dept got some surplus 10+ year old hardware. The light pen makes no sense with that monitor; the effects team is just trying to make it look hi-tech and futuristic...
Yes, Brando got the top bill and biggest payday in Superman 1. The studio wanted a big name star to give the movie credibility and gratuitous. Star Wars was a big hit mostly because it had Sir Alec Guinness - right? All in studio execs in 1978 knew that.
When Richard Donner 1st met with Brando; Brando was planning to play Jor-El as a bagel. Who's to say he doesn't look like a bagel? Donner was like; uh, everyone knows, he's been in comics since 1939, Jor El looks like Marlon Brando... idk if he was insane or just loved trolling people

Junk yard scene is by far the best scene....but this movie was a mess...the original script was way different to what we got...but if you thought this was bad wait for number 4...and more importantly the deleted scenes...Christopher Reeve will always be the best Superman but not even he could save 3 and 4!! I'm so happy that he may get a cameo in the new Flash movie though 😀

Christopher Reeve was an unknown actor when he was cast in 1977. Marlon Brando (coming off of The Godfather) & Gene Hackman were MAJOR movie stars at the time. That's why they were paid so much more. In fact, for the amount of screen time he had Marlon Brando was paid the most by any actor for one role at that time (his deal included a portion of the movies profits as well). In 1975 a big screen superhero movie had never been attempted at that time & securing both Marlon Brando & Gene Hackman gave the movie considerable legitimacy.

  • @bletheringfool

The producers needed to get funding and Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman were bankable names. Reeve was an unknown so it made business sense.

Great review.... incidentally, this may have since been discussed on these comments, but your top billing trivia... "top billing" doesn't mean how much they were paid. It means where on the credits they appear. So Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman's names would have been showed before Christopher Reeve's.

Thank you so much After Show Reactions just amazing great reaction excellent😊😊😊😊

  • @Logan_Baron

Actually it would be more like Giles getting paid more than Buffy. They got top billing because they were bigger more established names. As Anthony Stewart Head also was to a lesser degree. Now, as with Buffy, they tend to do the "and [bigger name actor than the star] at the end instead. Like John Schneider and Anette O'toole (who plays Lana Lang here) on Smallville. I'd have to look if they actually made more than Christopher Reeve. Top Billing doesn't necessarily mean paid more. Though most often it does. But I also heard that Richard Pryor got paid more than Christopher Reeve in this. Which supposedly Christopher Reeve said he deserved every penny.
