I totally see your point. It’s just in my opinion (I know you don’t have to agree and that’s ok) this is a conversation between the snakes so everything said in the verses won’t necessarily be great to the ears. It’s what I imagine satans demons say to one another. The chorus is not a part of the conversation it’s an explanation of who the snakes are. But the shepherd part you referred to in your original comment could very well be the demons saying Jesus is not paying attention. However, I take it as saying they’re pulling the wool over our eyes at all times to keep us fighting (both political parties). But this is the beauty of songs. They can be interpreted to each listener however they choose, but I didn’t want you to think Eric Church would be singing an anti Christian song that’s not the case at all.

Tim Alcorn While I half agree for hunting you may need more then one shotgun or rifle for different game or hunting situations. Like you could use a .22 for small game but you’ll need a bigger caliber for larger game. You can’t use a .410 for most bigger birds but it’s useful for small game while the 12 gauge is handy for bigger birds and deer and may be too much for smaller game. Not trying to start an argument just showing another point of view

I totally see your point. It’s just in my opinion (I know you don’t have to agree and that’s ok) this is a conversation between the snakes so everything said in the verses won’t necessarily be great to the ears. It’s what I imagine satans demons say to one another. The chorus is not a part of the conversation it’s an explanation of who the snakes are. But the shepherd part you referred to in your original comment could very well be the demons saying Jesus is not paying attention. However, I take it as saying they’re pulling the wool over our eyes at all times to keep us fighting (both political parties). But this is the beauty of songs. They can be interpreted to each listener however they choose, but I didn’t want you to think Eric Church would be singing an anti Christian song that’s not the case at all.

Tim Alcorn While I half agree for hunting you may need more then one shotgun or rifle for different game or hunting situations. Like you could use a .22 for small game but you’ll need a bigger caliber for larger game. You can’t use a .410 for most bigger birds but it’s useful for small game while the 12 gauge is handy for bigger birds and deer and may be too much for smaller game. Not trying to start an argument just showing another point of view

Church has always had a true country soul which is becoming increasingly uncommon in country music to the point where it's become almost unheard of on radio ... It's not so much that church sounds like anyone in this song as much as this song is legitimate folk music ... It's like hearing a good ole boy repeat one his granddaddy's front pourch stories
