    I was there when all of these computer based guitar, amp, cab, and mic sims were sampled and developed. Long before this, about a decade ago, I was part of the Line 6 Beta test team for all the gear from the Variax guitars which were JTV models, all the HD POD pedalboards and rack mounted gear, to the DT series hybrid tube/computer modeled amps and cabs. Just curious if you did a tutorial on how owners of those same two products can literally switch from the heavy sound to the clean sound just by positioning the amps either pre or post and use the foot pedal or additional foot pedal using the pan function to use one patch, but gets two distinctive or complimentary sounds without wasting so many patches. Plus, if the guitars are ‘built’ with tunings, and models on the guitar itself, it opens up a nearly limitless spectrum of sound capabilities with a ton less patches used up. Finally, if what used to be called VDI aka Variax Digital Interface Line 6 amp is added to that chain, you effectively double to triple using a DT amp. How many possible sounds, patches, etc. you can have at the touch of one toe on the pedalboard or controller if using a rack unit. Or has all this incredible tech gone away because Line 6 never bothered to make sure the stores that were selling their gear ever were taught how it all works? Funny that the patches on the Helix originated in the Vetta and Spider amps, and the guitar patches are the same ones that were developed for the JTV guitars. Good luck to you and I hope Line 6 whoever they are now owned by appreciates your time posting these tutorials. When I had al this gear and was checking everything for bugs, glitches, etc. and found that once you connected the guitar to the POD HD to the DT you could literally have three independent amp tones with only one that was physically set but the amp would recall until changed. And I came up with a way to get around the memory allocation restrictions we had back then which are gone now. By simply being much more creative than the developers using the software in very unique ways to offer more than was what the company thought. I was told to shut up about it and I was under the legal NDA so I had to. But when I performed live and some guitar people came up to me and asked how in the world could I play such a variety of songs and never change guitars, I showed then a brief version of how everything worked together. Some thought it was too confusing, others thought it was amazing. I wonder what it’s like now?

    Yay.. this is exactly what I was looking for.. a little apprehensive of going from the PODxtLive with my Variax 600 to the Helix. Now I see it can be set up exactly like I have my PODxtLive, but of course way better! Been watching videos all day trying to figure this out until I came across yours finally! Super helpful! My line 6 Variax 600 only has the piezo pickups so thinking about an upgrade on that too before too long, but I think switching to the Helix will be so awesome that I will be satisfied! Thanks again!

    To point something out about what you said at 6:30. Actually, in the Helix LT, you can see which patch is under which footswitch from the screen even before you press any of them. They are easy to see from the main screen too, so at least I have never had a problem with this and I have not been missing the scribble strips, though they would of course be a nice extra thing to have :). The way you said it made it sound like there was no way of knowing what is under which footswitch before pressing it.

      The Helix LT is only $999 brand new. If you really want one its easily doable. Do some traditional rig maths: 5150/Boogie/etc head we will say $800, plus a good cab is about the same. Thats $1600 for a gigable classic half stack, and you don't even have an EQ or delay. Figure another $400 for a couple pedals. Take that same $2k and grab a modeller like a LT and a sick FRFR cab like the Atomic CLR or K12, Friedman, Mission, etc. Bam. Instant modern "Rich Mama's Boy" rig that is SUPER diverse, can grow with you, and can even record. If you really take guitar seriously, you WILL end up spending money eventually and grow into more professional tone.

    Although this gear mortal has (for now) abandoned the pursuit of the Variax/Helix ring, I would still like to know one thing. If I woke up one day with the impulse to snag (as an example) a JTV-59 and a Firehawk, how many of those golden Helix interface options would be at my disposal?

    Have to take your word for it on instantaneous changing as you never tried it while playing. A common problem with modeler videos. Is it seamless or is there a noticeable drop or pop or something that is not 100 percent seamless?

    Hey Trey! One question with two parts and one additional question for you.
    #1 Is there delay/lag of any kind after digitally changing the tuning? And does that impact the clarity?
    #2 Palm mutes have been really weird with the type of pickups and bridge on the Variax. Has that been “patched” yet?

    • @auedpo
      @auedpo 5 лет назад

      Hey! I've experienced no lag whatsoever when changing tunings. You can tell that the guitar has changed as it sort of 'resets' the sounds, ie no reverb tail, but otherwise it is instant!
      Additionally, I have no issues with palm mutes and a high gain tone. Sounds just like a regular guitar to me. This is on the SR270 as well.!

    • @V3xxe
      @V3xxe 5 лет назад +1

      @@auedpo For the sound resetting: if you don't want that to happen you can set it up to swap between snapshots instead of presets. That way you can swap tunings up to 8 times and it won't have any sound resetting or latency! That's why on mine I have an individual patch for each song in the set, with different snapshots for each thing I need in a song :)

      Also you can't have an acoustic guitar sound on demand with the Drop. It's a cool pedal for sure, but it only does one thing.

    • @Fromagreatheight
      @Fromagreatheight 6 лет назад +2

      Also doesn't sound as good as far as pitch shifting goes. Drop pedal sounds muddy, especially your pick attack, after a few semitones down. Variax sounds great until like maybe a whole octave down.
