DG love facing world eaters, especially when you have cultists or nurglings that can wall and zone out their charges. bad match ups for DG are imperial guard and Tau for sure, most other armies DG tend to have decent match ups against.
When I’ve been playing them, DG have been reliable into both combat and shooting armies. I’m always surprised how well they hold up against gunlines, but I have not played them against tau or imperial guard.
Lane deciding when to paint Mortarion: "Consult the spirits. Is it time to apply the holy pigments!? (*old book creaking noises*) I see. Hmm. Terra is in retrograde while Barbarus is in ascendance! Very well. Deploy the washes! For tonight, I paint!" (evil laughter accompanied by offhand comments regarding the viability of Sternguard in a DG army can be heard)
Your welcome. As a Death Guard player myself I tend to keep Morty back at first. Then I move him up the table as a distraction. Probably not the smartest way to use him but it works for me.
Dont forgett that Mortys aura lets you have OC even when your are battle shocked. You should push him up to blunt the opponents offence and counter charge with Deathshroud and Plague Marines. OFC you should not throw him away but you can present a cheap durable threat mid-board. For contagion -1 ws/bs or -1 save are both pretty good. -1 ws/bs and combined with Typhus ability stack! The termi sorcs are fine solo for a one time blaster and then actions so you could swap typhus for a termi sorc. -1 save is just good vs power armor. Dead berserkers dont do any damage! For reserves I would put a single termi sorc plus one unit of Deathshroud with Typhus in it. Try to Rapid Ingress Typhus + Deathshroud, And dont forget that Typhus has 5" move so you can gain alittle extra move to shorten the charge!
Death Guard content! Morty is more viable now! DST look even greater. I just wish the less used datasheets in the army got a glow up because nobody ever uses them and they are lack luster. For Morty I mainly use him as a bullet sponge and a support piece for his buffs. He's good vs vehicles without INVULN's but his primary focus is to scare your opponent into wasting shots into him and to buff your nearby units. He can be descent with 2x crawlers but the indirect nerf still makes crawlers at their current price not favorable. Morty with some crabs (defilers) actually is pretty scary and strong or just running Morty up the board with his plague marines, terminators and demon engines is the usual go to. Death guard are known for always posturing for a strong counter attack turn to overtake objectives and sit on objectives to make it hard for other armies to take them off.
also DST with a lord of contagion is a melee ripper unit. You dont even need the 6x man DST with a LoC, the 3x man attached is fine. Lord of virulence is okay if you have more blast units to taake advantage of and utilizing the CP to give them additional +2 AP for anti infantry 4+ flamers, twin linked
they should buff morty to 7 attacks - strike, and the lantern pistol should get dev wounds, that would make him a bit more offensively better for what a demon primarch should be.
@lanedelong3355 yeah he's okay into vehicles with no INVUL.he really just a hard to kill support buff model with incidental damage at best. I wouldn't skew too hard into a vehicle heavy list since you'll have to play parking lot simulator with keeping everything near morty. I always take a very balanced list with 2x kharnivores, or brigands, morty, marines with characters, deathshroud with LoC, 2x blight launcher drones, cultists for scoring and 2x solo plague casters in a rhino of 5x marines. That's usually the staples of my list. The spare points i use for flavor or whatever else my list needs to balance out. Crawlers are meh....rn. I could see maybe taking one to force battleshock and sit on home objective with flamers to dissuade anyone trying to take it but that's alot of points sitting at home. Poxwalkers strung out might be better for sitting at home and spread out to deny deepstrikes. Moral of the story is that morty is a support piece and you always want to stage your army as safe as you can to make a strong counter attack and deny primary.

This definitely wins comment of the week😂
Great job on the paint on Morty looks awesome.
Thanks! I appreciate it!

HeroHammer death guards, I love it
I don’t know how competitive it is but it was definitely fun to build and play.

I did forget that the ignore modifiers buff applied to OC too, but it didn’t really come up in this game.

@@AriousArchaicyeah, 5 attacks on the strike is nothing. I rolled a couple ones on the attack and he just whiffed and did almost nothing into angron.
I do have a lot of DG vehicles so I may try a vehicle heavy list with Morty.

I'm surprised to not see Typhus. But I understand, Typhus and Mortarian are not very best friends
Typhus is present?
I'm so sorry. I might have zone out.
Typhus is probably one of the best undercosted character in the game, but he's also just a beast
@@PTurbo4th he is...Lane runs him solo and he just does work both secondaries and damage.
Yeah, I had typhus in this list and his mortal damage did good work in this battle.
