  • Always Board Never Boring had an opportunity to check out a prototype copy of Valerius, the latest creation from Boss Dog Games, creators of Ninja Sloths.
It's a slick and quick, family-friendly space romp. Hire wonderfully illustrated alien mercenaries, fight fast-paced dice combats supplemented with straightforward card play, and race to be the first to gather resources from a planet inhabited by ravenous beasts. A jolt of sci-fi action suitable for a competitive family games night.
This is a sponsored preview, looking over the rules and sharing some thoughts on gameplay.
If the game looks interesting, you can find it on Kickstarter here:

This looks like a fun little game that my group would enjoy. We like the more complex games but it would be nice to have a fast playing game with easy rules so we don't have to re-read the rulebook in between sessions. Going to check out the KS.

It's very accessible, and it's one of those games where a lot of the fun comes from picking on your friends and family, taking their resources, and then enduring the inevitable retaliation later.

Dvg makes solid solo games. One of them is Warfighter fantasy and I think you would like it.

It's fast-paced and not too thinky, so if you want a quick, accessible game that is very competitive it might be a good fit.

The theme and the artwork is really fun. And I thought the "artifacts" were a nice touch.

The name sounds like a bladder infection drug.

Insert Uranus joke here. Probably still a less suggestive name than Colostle or Euthia.

Ouch. The opening setting art looks….possibly…to be AI images? Maybe because this is an early prototype? I love games but it’s getting to be where I have to draw a line at where to spend my money. Conversely, the characters look great! Made by artists! Do we know if any of the final art is AI?

The components in the video are all prototypes. I haven't been informed any of it was created with AI but I'm afraid I have no information on the artists involved either. Everything is subject to change during development, and I don't have any insight on what the final game will look like, so if anyone has concerns I would recommend directing questions to Boss Dog for clarification. If lots of people think the art looks AI-generated, I am sure Boss Dog will have to address it during the crowdfunding campaign.
