Big Sam's Bolton was beast back in the day
I met Kevin Nolan about 7 years ago in Notts when he was at Notts County, he was a big lad even then. As a big strong lad myself, I couldn't believe how big Nolan was. I asked him who the best player he played with, he replied with a grin, Jay-Jay Okocha.

That bolton side was always arsenals achiles heel
They were superb, even a player like nick hunt, great pro
Jay jay ohh yeeh
My dad and I are arsenal fans and my mum supported Bolton for Jay Jay and for this
@@pobj6723ya Marge is a spiteful cow 😂😂😂😂
The numbers don't support that, Bolton being a tough opponent for Arsenal is a myth
Jack Charlton had a great quote "I am not good at playing, but I am good at stopping others from playing, so I had an important role in the team." There are many varied skills for this game.
I think that's something that a lot of kids nowadays who only play FIFA don't understand.
Sometimes it’s the players who don’t have the flair that cause those issues. No Davies wasn’t nearly as skilful as the Henry’s or Aguero’s of the world, but my god did he let the opposition defenders know they were in a game. Nice to see players like him get the respect they deserve from some of the best in the business.
Yeah, never an easy game for defenders when faced with him
People forget to realise that even though he was a top player he was still a pro and would smoke se dons and their nan 😂
he was center forward but I found him more terrifying as wingers. He didn't dribble the ball around the fullbacks, he buldozed straight through them.
My Dad used to call him the crash test dummy because he’d just throw himself into the centre back all game 😂
😂
Boss 😂
🤣
😂
I've seen many a player challenge or go 50/50 with Kevin Davies and bounce off him and fall down injured. He was strong. When he planted his feet it was like he put roots down
Lovely turn of phrase at the end there
He led the league in fouls committed and freekicks won for a few seasons around 08-11 😂
Drogba, tores, Crespo, Shevchenko, owen, tevez, trezaguet, del piero, batistuta, Bergkamp. So many amazing strikess back in the 90s and 2000s.
Van Nistelrooy and Van Persie
Cole york
Weah, Ravanelli, Viali, Romario, Stoichkov, you could go on & on
Rooney
Francis Jeffers, David Nugent, Andy Booth
I love it when the “less populair” players get credit
Davies was the type of player you'd play against in the school grounds. Rough and tough 😂
Old school, physical centre forward, loved clattering centre halves. Mark Hughes was another warrior up front, on the pitch, durng his career. Never gave opposing defenders a moment's rest...
Kevin Davis was a warrior
Even though I’m a Coventry fan, I still remember seeing that solo wonder goal that Davies scored for Chesterfield in the FA Cup back in the day, when he was about 20 (I think).
Then suddenly, there was a queue for his signature, and although Coventry were in there, Southampton was where he ended up.
Considering his shift into a battering ram CF, that mazy solo goal was incredible at the time. He had that skill, but was utilised more for his strength and determination later on.
Must have been a proper handful, for most defenders.
He’s scored a similar goal for Southampton at Everton too
As an American I just want to say Thank you for giving me some of the most legendary people to watch these new players are nothing like the old the fire isn’t the same
I’m 35 I was SPOILED growing up dude, late 90’s early 2000’s was incredible. Glad there’s RUclips now but yea it ain’t the same game at all

I don't watch football anymore as it is crap now. The standard and excitement isn't there.
The last world cup I watched was Korea/Japan 2002. I was a teenager.
The players are rubbish today. I don't even know their names 🤣
I remember I had Kevin Davies as captain on my pl fantasy team during his peak
Kevin Davies was a very good player
very underrated in the air
Kevin Davies was a beast... he got the job done!
john terry has said similar about kevin davies too lol. i've always had a soft spot for those "ugly bastard" type of strikers, the ones who made their way into the prem the hard way through grit and dermination yet still played like a lower league player.
Vidic said the same thing, couldn’t handle him
Jamie Vardy 😂
Davies was hardened by playing lower leagues and he was a throw back. He could finish too. Mind messrs Shearer and Sutton were also absolute violent beasts up front and prolific. I watched them a lot against United in the 90’s. Mark Hughes was also very physical with centre halves.
@@ariaacheson201 John Fashanu
Must be a Blackburn fan 😂
Who didn’t have a soft spot for Bolton back in the day
I'm a Bolton fan a born and bred. I live in S Africa. I really resent the fact I never got to see this team play. Many said it was 'one route' football. Not so. They could play well and on the ground. With the players they had. they had to play this way. Let's not forget the coaching Allardyce was meticulous.
Kevin Davies, Lee Chung Young, Sean Davis, Marcos Alonso, Gary Cahill, Stu Holden, Muamba, Martin Petrov
Kevin Davies.. Spireites legend. ❤
Kevin Davies was a real one.
Davies gave Wengers Arsenal nightmares. For years Arsenal were always labelled soft, and it's because of this guy smashing them to pieces.
That's an absolute myth and purely media narratives, between 1995 to their relagation Bolton played Arsenal 30 times with Arsenal winning 18 and Bolton winning 6, Arsenal mostly dominated them
@hegeliandianetik2009 imagine luton beating u 6 times. 😂 if u play bolton 30 times u expect to win 30 times.. losing 6 drawing 8 of those definitely isnt "dominating" especially vs a team consistantly at the other end of the table. They were your bogey team. Get over it
Bloody loved Davies. Him, Nolan, Campo and Bibi . Top notch
I remember that guy, left footed striker for bolton, them days players were full of passion and desire to win especially the smaller teams, im not surprised kevin davies is up there. He was big and strong too.
In terms of volleying, prime Van Persie is probably the best I’ve seen at it.
Tony yeboah
Suarez better than him
Van Basten has left the chat crying… 😢
Gordon Hill
@@shubhamkothari5277 and di baggio was a better all round player than Suarez 🤷 and more of a legend then Suarez
Kevin Davies was very underrated. He scored consistently, he battered defenders and was always fit for selection. I remember being chuffed when he got his cap, but for some reason he was generally overlooked. That Bolton side was very good as well tbh
Shearer looked a handful too and big Duncan Ferguson!! He made Jaap Staam look nervous! 😅
….and he looked like a bank manager from Swindon.
Brandon T’s mum thinking Iron Man was War Machine is hilarious
Styles make fights.. Rio sounds like an MMA fighter 😂😂🥊
Yo as an arsenal fan i could totally relate. Kevin Davies use to abuse gallas and toure everytime we played bolton 🤦

remember bumping into Davies, 2am in a bar in Manchester pissed on a Thursday! training the next day. legend
As a United fan, Rio just brought back memories for me of Davies! He was a tank!
That Bolton squad was insane back in the day! Okocha, Borgetti, Nakata, Diouf, Giannakopoulos, Gardner, Speed and Davies! Im surprised they didn't win the premier league

That Bolton & Big Sam, incredibly scary when playing against
Kevin Davies was a really unique player a defensive forward basically. A type of player you'd never find at a big club but he was really solid at Bolton.
Ferdinand was still too young back then, and that allow Kevin to make an impression
It's more the fact Davies was an old-fashioned English style centre forward and those type of players were nearly extinct by then. It would be like time travelling to the 80s.
@@BeBe-vh4ryright?
😂😂😂Make and impression = bully him
That phrasing is class.
Rio was already very experienced
"Too young"?? Davies is either the same age as Rio or like 1 'MAYBE' 2 years older than Rio....at most.
Davies was class for us at North End just before he retired. Was a strong player who could finish well
The best football back in the day ❤❤❤
Who ever said "What" in the background clearly never watched Bolton play in the EPL. If youre too young to remember it's ok 😅

Raul Gonzalez Luis Figo damn man alot of players from my childhood are becoming forgotten by the new gen 😢
I still remember middlesbrough and Bolton back then were amazing teams that nobody wanted to play
I never rated Ferdinand...
So true! One could easily add another 15 more to those you did. Fantastic pool of global talent.
Good to see an unskilled clod like Kevin Davies get some due. At least he had zero illusions about being a flair player and just went about his business like a pro.
I learned how to use my body as a striker to hold off defenders from watching Kevin Davies play. The man was a handful
Nobody wanted to play Big Sam's Bolton those days...
"I wanted to be clean." You sure Rio?
Nice to see a under rated player getting some love
He forgot Fernando Torres who put him and vidic on their backsides 😂
Suarez tore him up like an A4 sheet.
OGs remember that Kevin Davies was a tank.
Kevin Davies was a plain physical fighter. He holds the record of second most player to commit fouls in premiere league history, and also one of the most fouled. But his card history is surprisingly low with that stat, meaning most of them are 'clean' fouls. So no arm pulling, leg kicking, etc.
Davo is a legend !
Les Ferdinand was a fucking beast rios uncle played for Newcastle
Davies was a gun!! He played pro for so long for a reason.
what a player he was
Davies was a war horse
Funny how he never mentions Swarez
Exactly the comment i was looking for, suarez best premier league striker
Kevin Davies didn't business... Facts 💯
And he wasn't underrated...
Those who knew.. Know 👌🏾
His toughest opponent was ME back in the school days.
He was playing as a striker in that game, and I was a centre defender.
He never got a sniff of the ball back then.
I absolutely bullied him all game.
He did not move and inch, and I got man of the match (only time too 😅).
Oh, and I was half his size and skinny.
But would always raise my game for so called hard opponents.
We all get one 15 mins as they say.
Some get more.
That was one of mine.
Why does rio always sound like he never finished his GCSE's when he talks?
I swear Rio said that he didn’t rate RVP like that before he came to United and he saw him in training.
The Thierry Henry’s… the Van Persie’s… the Raul’s… was Rio seeing double when he played these guys? 😂
No
All of those names he was calling were all "ENGLISH PLALYERS" except Brazilian Ronaldo. One time Brazilian Ronaldo played against Manchester United and he scroed three (3)scores in the second leg to knock out Manchester United from the Champion League in semi finals.
The lesser known players always focus on mastering the basics rather than raise their entire level. This causes the elite players trouble because they have to also think like that and throw away all the fancy skills.
If u dont kno ull never say it but I believe him Kevin Davies was strong he was that guy a fighter
Super Kev 👍👍👍👍👍
Agree..batty from leeds was same..not so skilled but always up for it..
Glad Davies got hus England cap. Got Chesterfield to a fa cup semi
Every time i see him it looks like he's 'on it'
LFC Torres made Rio and Vidic look like schoolboys
I’m a Man U fan and Fernando Torres used to torture rio 😂 rio didn’t know what to do with him and he will never admit it
Kevin Davies was an old school DIRTY player he wasn’t going to glide past you he was running into you.
The mma reference😂😂
Big Duncan Ferguson used to give him a tough time as well.
i saw on fm he was a liverpool fan i always wanted liverpool to sign him back in the day when we had wanky strikers like voronin etc
Sam team was great fr. Finished 6th 04/05 that’ll mean Europe spot yeah ?! Great player that man was as well.
Kevin davies we had him at lone at millwall very good player 😊coyl
Forgetting Bellamy tore him a new one in many occasions
Footballers talk like this "When you're talking about the Henrys, the Van Persies, the Rauls.."
I'm tempted to say well that's the point, innit? There was only one Raul, only one Van Persie
So tempted that here I am saying it..
Van Dijk's bogey player is Giroud. Henry's was Ledley King. Kevin Davies had tough competition for England so had a career similar to Giggs where he had the summers off. When he was in his prime England played him though so it's not really a suprise just because he isn't a household name like Gerrard or Lampard.
Neuer's bogey player - the player with the most domestic/ bundesliga goals against him is some unknown. Even I can't remember his name 🤷🏾♂️
He was a pain in the ass, miss them kinda players looking back. Hated him at the time still kinda do actually lol
Rio definitely couldn't handle Gareth Bale when he was flying at Tottenham. Mind you, nobody could stop Bale then. Taxi for Maicon!
The rauls the henrys...there's only one rio
Prime Bolton was class
Fuck me Rio, must have been tough playing against multiple Henrys, Ronaldos etc.
That says a lot about Kevin, with an endorsement like that, perhaps he should have gone further in his career!
Bolton played in Europe. Two seasons in a row and both times into knockouts. He was at a top six side as the main man!
@@JoolsUK Hi Jools, I take your point, but he could/should have gone to more of a “glamour” club, ie Liverpool, Man Utd (at the time)
Jaaskelainen Jaidi Campos Speed Okocha Giannakopoulos Davies, I still remember
As Rio said, there’s only one aguero
He forgot Messi😂😂😂
There is only one Henry, Ronaldo and Aguero. No need to pluralise them.
Why do people always pluralise names the Raul's the Van Persie's... There was only one of them!
Why, when referring to Henry, do people say, ‘the Henry’s’. And then they refer to, say, Van Persie, they then say ‘the van Persie’s’ why????
Davies and Nolan should have had plenty england caps
i don't know why he couldn't do it at Blackburn, he never looked interested at all.
