Has anyone else noticed Gemma’s Irish accent gets bigger and bolder when her mum is around? 😂 Two of the most lovely ladies! ❤️
You've got me, Debbie! ;) Thank you for watching!
That’s normal, I was born in Mexico City but I moved to the US at age 14 (mind you that we used to spend summers in Florida prior to moving to the States, so my English was very good, with great pronunciation, etc). I’ve been living here for 36 years now but every time I hang out with my Mexican friends or I go to a Spanish speaking country, I come back with that accent and my English has become more Latinized 🤣🤷🏻♂️
I loved Gemma's definition of the spacing between the dough balls : "It gives them a little room to kiss but not making out" 🤣🤣🤣 That for me is the line of the day!
I am definitely borrowing that from you, Gemma, next time I bake some rolls
Lol! Go for it!

@@biggerbolderbaking thank you for sharing your Mom with us and for giving us many amazing recipes.
Stumbled across this channel after I learned about Waterford blaa from some website. Stayed for the sweet relationship between mother and daughter. Mom seems so sweet. It was very wholesome and nice to watch.
Thank you for the kind words, Madi.
I can attest to the Waterford Blaas. Been living here for close to two years now and they are a treasured component of my post workout snack! Thanks very much for demystifying them.
Thank you for sharing and I hope you'll give this a go!
It's so nice to see your mom here! While reading your book about how she taught you how to bake, how she made all these nice pastries and breads and crepes for you and your siblings, I thought she must be an amazing woman! You are amazing too! Congratulations on your new bundle of joy!
Thanks a million! Happy you enjoyed and are here with us!
That was the most beautiful poofed dough I've ever seen 😍😍
I’m very glad that you spend some time with your mom. Also this recipe is delicious
Thank you for your kind words.
Maybe it's French for "wheat" instead (blé)? It's closer than "corn" (maïs). Whatever - it looks delicious, no matter the etymology!
Thank you for your kind words.
les mercredis on porte du rose in Ireland wheat is sometimes called corn.
I was just about to write this! "Blé" might be where it comes from.
It used to be that all grains were called 'corn' akin to how we call them cereals, so you might have the name 'corn' referring to wheat. Think about the old "Corn Laws" that didn't do anything about maize, but regulated the price of wheat, rye, and malt--which were all classed as corn.
Corn is also known as "Indian wheat" in French (maybe just French Canadian?)
I am from Waterford and had blaa's for breakfast often we lived in Railway Square in the 1960's and moved to Cork in 72, I live in Nederland since 1981 so I have not eaten a blaa for 50 years and still remember the deliciousness we got ours from Harneys in John's street.
Thank you for sharing this here. Have you tried making these at home? I hope you do. The link to the recipe is in the caption above. Thanks for watching!
I have the answer! "Corn" in Ireland (and the UK) used to refer to all grain products. The French for that is "blé" (pronounced like blay) which over time could easily become "blaa".
And to anyone who hasn't had blaas, it's a fantastic bread. Would definitely require trying it!
Thank you for sharing.
Would you happen to have a recipe
Your Mom and you are so lovely together! Watching this, I am missing my Mom so much, who is 4 hours away during this Coronavirus!!! Be well and stay well you two! 💗🙏

I was born in Waterford in 1952. Came to U.K. 1959. Go HOME every few years and love the rhubarb tart. Used to be able to get it anywhere but had trouble finding it before COVID. Hope to come back next year for a good month holiday. Born in Johnstown and went delasal run by the sadists. Loved woods town and Tramore. Couldn’t get ribs anywhere last time. Bacon and cabbage, yeah. I’m a cook, amateur, and all my lot over here are English born. When they come for dinner, grandad says, what would you like, Italian, Chinese, English?. Bacon and cabbage always. They love it
I know how you feel, Patrick. It will always be home. Thanks a million for watching.

What a delightful episode, Gemma. How blessed you are to still have your beautiful mum to come and help you.
Hope you and your husband are settling into parenthood.

I loved watching this video of mommy & daughter baking together. I learned to bake with my mom. I then started teaching my boys to cook at the age of 2. We started with chocolate chip cookies 😁. My oldest son took to cooking and when he was about 6 or 7 he asked for an Easy Bake oven for Christmas. Now my youngest is enjoying the art and we love your tutorials! Thank you for sharing!!!
I'm delighted to hear that, Jan. Thank you for sharing.
Nice video. You know everybody is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. 🥰☘️
You have such a sweet little mum...so good to build great memories together while you still have her. I’m sure you got your love for cooking from her. Hope you get to visit often. Good recipe too.

Hi Meg, would you say the Blaa is like the “Perthshire” rolls I used to buy when I lived in the Highlands? They were only available on Sunday mornings & the shop was a good mile & a half away. Great fun in your wellies!
So terrific that you recognize and concede that your mum knows everything, love!😉 For Christmas in 2019, I got a mug for my adult daughter that says “I don’t need Google, my mother knows everything”!!!☺️🙏❤️
Well, she does. She’s still my go-to to this day 😍 Love the mug, Robin!

LOved seeing your mum. Beautiful woman and so sweet. My sister assures me we are Irish so I best make this.
Go for it! :)
Thanks Mum!!!
Ahhh Blas , the one thing I miss from Waterford. We used to have these every morning for breakfast before going to school. You can''t beat a strong cup a tea and a buttered Bla.
Harneys Bakery or Walshs' being the best ones. Some times standing around outside the shop on a dark winter morning waiting for them to be delivered in the van and they'd still be hot and then if any were left over some ham or cheese in one for lunch at school. I've not had one for years. I will certainly be trying this recipe to take me back to the day.
Waterford people were reared on these.
Thank you for sharing, Liam. My mum still makes this for us, whenever I’m home. I hope you’ll get on well with mum’s recipe. Here it is, www.biggerbolderbaking.com/how-to-make-waterford-blaas/

Hello Mum,
Welcome to Santa Monica 💕💕. Great recipe, thank you.
Thank you so much
You are so welcome. Enjoy your time here.❤️😀
I'm from Wisconsin, and we know cheese here but Ireland knows butter. I always buy Kerrygold butter for spreading, cooking eggs, etc. As for blaas, maybe the original recipe "back in the day" used cornmeal instead of wheat flour?
I live in Waterford, I love blaas with kerry gold butter and Tayto crisps. Thanks for the recipe Gemma
You are welcome!
I love Blaa's - this one is a keeper, best rolls ever - in Carlow I get them with bacon, sausage and egg, it's a full meal in a roll :)
That sounds delicious!
Gemma, lovely to meet your Mum! [ hope the timing allowed for her to meet her new grandson :-) ] Thanks, ladies!
Thank you for your kind words. She's over the moon with Baby George.

I envy them that. We can all do it, but it would take a lot of practice to perfect the skill. Thank you for sharing about your granny.
