Just ran this trail / "road". Amazing views! Spent the night in our roof mounted tent on our Ram 1500 Ecodiesel, just about 100 yards up from the Schnebly Hill Rd Vista. We were the only ones on the mountain that night...so cool! I watched this video first and got all the details from the trail guide. Thanks for all of your help!
My husband and I took his Dad and Mom down that road. They loved it. Dad was born in Douglas, Az. and Mom was born in Williams, Az. All of us are native Arizona and we're never down that road before.
It is a cool trail. If you get a minute, head over to our website and post up a couple of pictures from your trip. You will find the link in the video description above. We look forward to seeing seeing/hearing about your trip.
I go to Sedona monthly with my Jeep and have never gone on that road, I think my wife and kids would love this road, thnx for the info and video. just subbed
Great video and history of the town and the surrounding area. I've driven down that road before as my first (and only) time into Sedona. I'll definitely do it again in the future.
Loved the video. Very interesting and informative about the area. We have been down the Shenbly Rd many times since 1975 when we moved here. The last time being April of 2020. I was amazed at how ROUGH this road has gotten (we do it about very 5 years). Definitely need a 4 wheel vehicle to do this road now days.
Thanks for the video. I'll be going west to east on April 3rd or 5th 2023 I'll be in Sedona all week from late afternoon April 1st departing early April 8th 2023
Drove my 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited UP Schnebly Hill Road from Sedona to I-17 just after it snowed one year back in 1998. Had the all-season tires that came on the vehicle. The climb was no big deal. Cost me about $20 in quarters to wash the mud off in Flagstaff. The biggest deal was riding mountain bikes both up then down or down then up. I could get up to 37 mph on the bicycle on specific parts of the trail on the way down. It's a fun road with nice scenery that outdoor people need to drive just to say "been there done that." It's not really a challenge in a Jeep nor on a mountain bicycle going either direction.
@@Trailsoffroad No pictures. Pictures, selfies, video weren't the "thing" back then as they are today. 23 years ago was a different world and way of life.
I've only done the whole route from west to east. Simply because I went on a picnic with my girlfriend up the lower part to the shelf looking down oak creek, and figured the way back to I-17 on the plateau was a better option than going back down the boulder path lower section back to Sedona . Sometimes fortune smiles on idiots that have a topo map and a vehicle they probably should not have taken to where they are in the first place. DOH!
Beautiful scenery, and an easy drive. Next time try FR153a right above the scenic overlook for dispersed camping, beautiful views, and less people. You will need a high clearance vehicle.
We were talking about that trail while right there. One of the guys in our group said the exact same thing. Thank you for watching, and thanks for the heads up on the camping spot.
A couple days ago we ran this trail from 17 to Sedona. Taller tires for axle clearance is probably the first necessity. The rocks which cover the entire trail are small enough to pass under your axle with 35s. You don't want to do this trail with stock Rubicon Diesel suspension. It will be a bottom-out fest. Beautiful, up close and distance views of the Sedona mountainscapes and long mountainside descent make this trail what it is. Never ending 7-10" unavoidable rocks take much away from this trail. There are no technical obstacles as I recall. (Except for the pink tour Jeeps.)
@@Trailsoffroad LOVIN THIS ROAD!!! We made it just in time for the sunset! I ATTEMPTED to drive UP from Sedona, BUT with a fully loaded truck (two kayaks on top and two bikes on back) and 1,200 pounds of gear, INCLUDING a 250 pound wood carved bear bench in my bed!? I opted for the entrance from I-17. I just wish I could include a pic of our campfire and the Milky Way above.
This trail has gotten very rough over the years perhaps due to the many Jeep tours that travel it every day. Some of the tour drivers race other drivers down the trail to “finish faster” for some reason. Killer views, but very rocky.
Planning to visit the area in a few more weeks - thinking about making this drive - looks absolutely beautiful. Doing some research and looks like it might be better taking the East to West drive/approach. Currently see a Closed Road notice for upper Schnebly Road on the Coconino NF website. Guess I need to keep an eye on that - might need to come in from the East and head West, then turn around at upper SR and head back same way in. I rode up it on my mountain bike during the winter. It was icy and snow covered after Merry-Go-Round. There's a huge locked gate to exclude motor vehicles. I hope it was okay for me to continue on despite the locked gate.
I have driven this trail a few times over the last 15 years. The last time was about 2 weeks ago. It is getting worst.
