Mycroft isn't lazy. in both the books and other Movies and shows he carefully curates the image that hes lazy but its just hes actually playing on a bigger board than Sherlock is. Mycroft tended to only involve himself in matters of National and international intrigue. Where as Sherlock was always more of a man among the people person. AKA Mycroft was always bigger picture and Sherlock was always little People since he tended to care more about them than Mycroft did. both of them covered things that the other tended to ignore.

So basically Sherlock was trying to help his brother in the traditionally dysfunctional Holmes family way.

At that moment he realised that mycroft was actually right again. And If mycroft says he isnt lonely, I'm inclined to believe hm more than sherlock.

I like in this scene the 2 holmes’ talk about how the client chews on the left bobble when he’s nervous and later on in the episode when Sherlock is trying to find the hiding place of the train with the guy on a Skype call you can see him chewing on the bobble during the search.
Sherlock was definitely the more clever brother especially when you take into account what he said at the end of their operation game. He primed Mycroft before deductions came into play

For example - Sherlock would consider me right hander, because I eat with right hand, I use my right hand for phone, I keep my wallet on right side. But Mycroft would say - I am left handed because I use my left to write, or lift spoon with a liquid in it. And would remark that people can use different hands for different purpose. If sherlock saw my father play Harmonium he would he is left hander. But Mycroft would correctly deduce that he is right hander.
