  • "You wanted to tell everyone’s story but your own." Natalie Portman is Maddie Schwartz. Moses Ingram is Cleo Johnson. Lady in the Lake is now streaming on Apple TV+ apple.co/_Lady...
When the disappearance of a young girl grips the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966, the lives of two women converge on a fatal collision course. Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman) is a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram) is a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family. Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger. From visionary director Alma Har’el, “Lady in the Lake” emerges as a feverish noir thriller and an unexpected tale of the price women pay for their dreams.

I live in Baltimore and my neighbor and I watched the crew film from Lafayette Park a block from where we live. We watched until 3am. It was an amazing experience. I read the book about a week later. This week I streamed episodes 1-5 and the biggest difference between the series and the book is Cleo's character is more prominent and names are changed as well. I'm very satisfied with the changes and have enjoyed the series. Moses Ingram is star.

Was hesitant to watch, but ultimately Portman was the selling point. A unique, mysterious, and sophisticated style with thoughtful dialog is why Alma Har'el shines as a showrunner. Very interested in a potential next project (with 🍎📺 or elsewhere). Natalie Portman is definitely at her best in this carefully crafted mini series. The unfortunate realization that Santa is not real has us aching, but all in all, quality over quantity best describes this Apple TV original. ❤

Waited to long for this to be released. Remember when they were filming it during a summer in Baltimore during Covid.

Wow that long ago, I'm sure they had to do some reshoots and editing after the pandemic which can explain why it's being released now.

Great series. My only “complaint” would be the underuse of the very talented young Noah Jupe. I think he’s got quite a future ahead of him!

Yes, its interesting to see how many good young actors are there in that series. Portman is more or less the weakest of the bunch.

I feel like I've seen this performance a hundred times before from Portman. Seductive clueless sounding whisper followed by angry rage while throwing something and I feel like that portrayal of women is getting old and is no longer 'refreshing'. Women offer a lot more range than just anger and tears and that's all she does with every role nowadays.

It seems that people complain about trailers revealing too much on every trailer, but here I’m baffled. What exactly did this reveal ? It looks very intriguing and visually stunning but I have no idea what the plot is, which is pretty obviously the point of this trailer.
