Love this stuff dude, please do more! My only critique is personally I don't like a bunch of different colors that don't go together on at the same time, or quick color changes during a song. But that's just personal preference.
I’ve wanted to be a lighting technician since I was about 10 or 11 although I didn’t really know what is was called back then. Now I’m 14 and I started to research lighting design. I have so many ideas but I just need to learn exactly how to put them to use. This video just further solidifies my dream of being a lighting technician, thank you :)
This is so freaking amazing, love to see more videos of this kind! But please answer me these two questions: Did you really Patch and programm the whole show in about 3 hrs? How do you programm your things inside of GrandMA to be so freaking responsive to the music? You are a genius in working with GrandMA2 I would say!
+XtremeTech Thank you for your kind words and share the video with your fellow lighting geeks to keep me motivated to do more! Yes. The entire show was patched and programmed in less than 3 hours. One of the perks of having MA2. One of the best things about MA2 is the freedom to build your own workflow. I have a video planned where i talk about how i program my MA2 that feels good to me. And the sync to the music has a lot to do with fealing. Most of the songs i've heard countless times before. But even the songs i've never heard before i've learnt over the years to analyse these types of songs to know what happens where. But most importantly. You should never be afraid of "failing". Only adds a human touch to the show and most people will notice a good hitting bump more then something you feel was wrong or odd as a lighting geek.
+VolumeLux Thanks for your fast answer. I am really looking forward to see that video on your style of programming GrandMA2! I also have a lot of experience with electronic music and have this feeling for it that you described as well, but I often had the feeling to be not fast enough while being live responding to the music with my way GrandMA2 is prepared... And when I see your video it seems to be so easy to do it with GM2. So I really want to know how you prepare your show for live use.
Haha jumped forward for a minute watching the live show, then suddenly hear "Okej Malmö kan jag få se era händer", wut, that is so close to where I live. What are the odds.
Did you go into this gig knowing anything about the music/artist? What goes through your head when programming without a setlist/familiarity? I enjoyed your show and your timing was great with those positions. Is it just knowing which of your effects will go with different beats? Having speed faders? I'm fascinated.
Great video! You're a crazy good programmer on the fly. Wonder if you got to hear any of the music beforehand to know how they were mixing and what to expect perfectly. Great skill! Definitely subscribing to see more videos like these!
Normally at such venues they use Showkontrol which displays the CDJs of the DJ on stage and they can see what they are mixing. It si also used for time code shows
Slaghuset is a really cool venue. I've done lights there too. I'd love to see how you've built your showfile. I'd love to see a video about it sometime :)
Nice video! Keep up these vlogs, love them! Can you make a video about how you use your lighting desk live and how you program it before the show? Cant wait to see that :D
First off, really awesome video, thanks for sharing! Did you have any say in the lighting setup in terms of fixtures or did you just show up and program? This particular lighting rig isn't huge, how much would you say your programming time changes based on larger rigs? Lastly, if you don't mind me asking, are you hired by the production company, the venue or the artist? Thanks
I've been using a GRAND MA desk since I was 9 years old, I am 14 now and about to choose my GCSE options but I am not entirely sure what ones I need to choose to be a lighting technician? Anyone have an idea of what I need to do?
just do it, go the the nearest club/venue and just start helping. ask if you can practice in your free time, you will meet new people along the way. but the key is to start doing it.
I'm looking up to you! Im a 17 year old who also likes to do programming in my spare time, only that i'm working with only about 10 movies using stairvilles DMXJoker software and 2 midi keyboards. BTW, are the movies that you use the "B5R Beam" by stairville?
+CookieMusicNetwork Never heard the term movies. I believe movers or moving heads are more commonly used. I can't recommend Stairville gear. Output is decent but build quality will fail after a bit usage. Way cheaper to buy used quality gear wich also gives you a respected brand (makes your company look good and easier to rent out). Considering your age and setup buying cheap gear is norma and fine to play with. :) This rig contains Martin Mac 700s, Chauvet q-wash 560Z-LED and Clay paky sharpies, DTS 2 lites + atomics.
what education do i need to began my carerr in becoming a eletrical light technician? is that what it is even called that you do or simply lighting technician?
Its a lightning operator and you can get a show production degree but it's not needed the best are self taught. Lots of hands learning you can start with local churches and schools
I know this Video was posted a while ago but I'm looking for a career in Lighting but don't mind doing sound or audio visuals. Are there any noticeable differences between a Lighting Designer vs Light Technician/Live Event Technician? Thanks.
I love seeing the state of the art progressing to this point! I did lights back in the 60's and 70's and want to play with this stuff!
Cool. Good times. Less is more sometimes. I often use parcans in smaller vanues when i have the power for the dimmers.

As someone who deeply appreciates light shows and thinks it is an art form with amazing potential, follow your dreams!!
Ally, where do you live?
Go and download Grandma 2 or 3. The software is free. And with the guides on the internet you'll come a long way!

Hi! I'd really appreciate a video from yours showing how you set up your workflow on the MA2! Keep up the good work!
VolumeLux one man said once: If you do a mistake once, do it more than one time, because the artist/band may think that it is a meaning behin

For that strobe effect were you using LED lighting or the ones from the Moving Heads?
eduardo martinez most likely he used the atomics, because they are intense😉
Atomic LED's I love them so much
Dope!
How did you get your start in the event lighting industry? I'd like to do this but I don't know where to start.
Hi! A have the same question. Do you find job and how?)

How in the world do u do this live? And with only 3 hours to program?!?!
I know this Video was posted a while ago but I'm looking for a career in Lighting but don't mind doing sound or audio visuals. Are there any noticeable differences between a Lighting Designer vs Light Technician/Live Event Technician?
Thanks.
Lighting technician more focused on rigging and setup / patching. Designer just deals with the console
Killer Karrot thanks for the reply, I've heard of technicians running the console so is it a general rule of thumb that the designer runs the show?
Good Job! ;-)
