    Hi guys, i'm thinking about entering the world of vermin control and small game hunting. I know how to handle an air rifle etc, but i'd just like to know what rifle you would suggest under £1000. Would you suggest 1.77 or 0.22? For obviously reasons it would have to be non FAC. Also, i'll be using a hand pump. I'd prefer a lighter rifle and possibly with a black synthetic stock and full length barrel. So please could you suggest the best rifle. Thanks.

    Hi Mat, what's the best advise to getting permission to shoot on local farms and estates. Should I just go and see the land owner or write to them so not to disturb the owner to much? Great videos by the way

    • @theshootingshow
      @theshootingshow  9 лет назад +1

      Hi Jono. We'd recommend sending a letter first, and then follow up with a visit a week or two later. Try to think if you know of anybody who is already acquainted with the people you are going to approach - they may be able to give you a recommendation, which counts for a lot, or even arrange an introduction. Helping local shoots with beating during the pheasant shooting season is also a good way to establish contacts, and most landowners are more likely to grant permission to insured airgun shooters.

      Thanks for the advise Mat. Do most insurance companies offer air rifle shooting insurance or is it more of a specialist field? I'll join the BASC too which I'm sure will also help. Thanks again.

      Jono Kent Hi Jono. BASC membership includes one of the most comprehensive insurance packages you can get, and they do specialist membership/insurance for airgun shooters. Have a look at their website.

    Wrap some cheap spoons around metal pipe or a metal rod then , something in the middle to stop them moving .I got my 8 spoons for 88 p from the supermarket , every so often you will need to straighten them .And wont last as long as normal spinners, but hey only 88p or so.......

    Nice one Mathew, enjoyed the squirrel shooting, the metal front on the feeder is a good touch with bashing the hell out of it ..
    atb t ..

    • @theshootingshow
      @theshootingshow  9 лет назад

      Yes, the metal front does help - not just because of pellets hitting it, but also because squirrels like to chew the wooden hopper.

    I understand they are not a native species, but i never here in the united states saw a grey squirrel or any squirrel chew bark off the trees and cause damage, i have seen rabbits eat the bark. Maybe squirrels do i just never seen it and the trees grow real good.

      Nor have I. Still think they’re little assholes. 5 years no cherries, they jump on my cedars in winter and crack them, and dog up the yard. Worst yet they have been stealing tomatoes pulling them down taking a bite throwing them away. Vile species.

    After the squirrels were shot and he was talking to the landowner,its not the safest thing to rest the forearm across the barrel of the gun,pellet gun or regular firearm.Its also not a safe thing for a young hunter to see.They pick up the habit of doing the same

    • @theshootingshow
      @theshootingshow  9 лет назад +3

      Mat's gun is on a sling on his shoulder, pointing in a safe direction throughout the conversation. What you can see him leaning on, and have mistaken for a gun, are the hide poles featured earlier in the show.
