Brother Kevin, I’m blown away by your video! I hope you are happy with that sodbuster jr. I know I will love that anvil train knife. Thanks for all you do and your videos I enjoy so much. May God richly bless you and your growing family. P.S. I am VERY EXCITED about the prospects of you having a knife event in your town. I will do my very best to be there!
Hey Kevin. This is Mark from Eloy AZ. When you get to the Parker plz look at the back of the scales, one of the scales is seperating. Maybe you can glue it and clamp it. Thanks
Hey Doc...I found blades and sheath for a case x-changer by calling case and Sheppard hills cutlery to complete my knife. Seemed to be cheaper and quicker than eBay. Hope this helps. Anyway enjoy your channel and God Bless!
Please do that XX-Changer in some of that micarta or G10 you’ve received. You already have a sweet stag one, a zytel one and someone will probably send you a wood one any day now 🤗. For anyone that’s never held one the weight with all that brass makes a Buck 110 feel like an ultralight.
I love the eye glass screw driver you use to clean the inside of the knives, and the reason why is because I use the exact same one!! How you made that knife so well I would be proud to carry it.
Kevin take a propane torch and burn the bone with it it will darken and match the new scale! Deep South does it all the time on the Caribbean blue and other Case knives and now you can get burnt bone from Case!! Well done my Friend yes I sent you the scales.
Here is some info from a Knife Forum I belong to on the Case XX Changer. "The frame was changed sometime around 1999. Blades from XXChangers made before then will not fit correctly in frames made after the change. And vice versa. Worse, while you can buy new blades from Case that will fit the modern XXChangers, Case no longer sells blades that fit the earlier pre-change (older) frame. To replace blades for an older XXChanger, you have to look for them in the aftermarket. Generally speaking, if your XXChanger came NEW with the pointed toe sheath where the blades were stored in front, then you have the original pre-change model. If your XXChanger came NEW with the squared sheath where the blades are stored behind the knife, then you have a modern post-change XXChanger. That assumes, of course, that no one changed the sheaths out over the years."
Well you sure fixed up that old Western up nicely, so glad you kept that gorgeous bone on the one side, looks so good. One thing, I noticed you kinda pulling that compass open with your finger nail, pretty sure it'll open if you just push down on the "crown" I think it's called? I'd hate to see that fine little thing lose its ability to close up nice n tight :). I just love your channel, keep up the good work sir. :)
love those western floding hunter I've tryed to find one they are hard to find and they want an arm and leg for one other great video and case is cutting quality got a cheetah had fix centering lose blade pinged a pin over had polish the blade had scratches I was going to take it back then the manager gave me half off so 45 dollars and a hour of my time turned out good so they are to high of prices for the steel and what you get all I'll buy is floding hunter if I don't have to fix them sad😢
I sure enjoyed the video . I am a fan of the western old n newer ( camillus ) . Great but hard to find book on Western knife co: The knife makers who went west. Keep up the great work Kevin!
Hey, do an episode on preventing a zippo from letting all the lighter fluid evaporate. Mine goes empty in two weeks and I've tried the ziplock bag trick. I don't smoke but have it for melting paracord ends and misc tasks.
I just got a Zippo brand butane insert (made in china) to throw in truck console in AL heat. Haven’t had long enough to FULLY recommend but 2 weeks in, so far so good. Don’t know of any way to stop a zippo from evaporating from a 40+ year smoker.
Sorry, lollll, I have a question, the stuff you use to clean up the knives, where can I find them. I just want to see if I can get the stuff around here where I live.
on the Case situation - my friend the truth is the truth and if the receiving party has issue with the truth it is a problem on their part it is not a problem on the truths part.
I found my hawkbill knife, it belonged to my Uncle, when he passed away, my Aunt gave it to me. I know it says USA I'm going to see if I can read the rest of it.
Benchmade etches their tang stamp. Spyderco etches their tang stamps, even Buck etches their tang stamps on many models. Look at your Spitfire tang stamp. I prefer the old way, but times change.
Awesome valid points (though spitfire might be stamped) doesn’t seem to effect function on the $200-$400 knives and they still sell like hotcakes. I got a 90s model Blackjack or two that sell on the bay for $4 plus that are etched but mine will have to remain with me.
Should we blast benchmade for never stamping or commend case for evolving in an attempt to keep the costs down for us consumers? Price check former to latter and see what you think. I could share a terrible experience I had sending a knife in to benchmade with their lifesharp program as well as case not wanting to replace blades in an old knife even if I offered to pay.
Please do not force the compass cover open, it opens like a pocket watch with the button on the stem. Nice restore on that Western, looks great! God will never leave us or abandon us.
Really?? Just by stating facts? Are people not supposed to tell the truth about Case?? I’m only stating that they’re not holding up to the legend of the Brand that people laid out before them. Thanks for watching…but I don’t have a vendetta against any knife company. It not just me, I get emails all the time saying how bad their knife is they just received from case. I also know a seller of case knives that they get at least 5 knives on every shipment that the handles fell off. So, does this sound like the Case I Love?? NO…so I’m gonna call it like I see it. Thanks again for watching.
I think that if you got emails from every Case customer who had received a good knife your inbox would be overflowing, folks don’t tend to bother talking about good experiences just the odd few poor ones.I also didn’t think it fair that you criticised Case simply because they didn’t have any freebies for you at the Blade show, maybe that has influenced your ongoing observations. 🤔 I think it is fair that on the occasion that you have a Case knife of your own in hand, with a specific imperfection, that you bring that quality issue to the attention of those watching, for the good of showing folks what to be aware of and look out for. However I do not think it is helping anybody to cast sweeping generalisations about a maker that by far the majority of the time produces a quality product at a fair price, but then that’s only my opinion. I thoroughly enjoy your content every day and look forward to your videos, but just like you I have the right to call it as I see it 👍
I hate what is happening with Case. But that is what happens when investors take over companies with the intention of downsizing and cutting corners to maximize profit. RIP Case.
I swore off buying Case ONLINE couple months back but it didn’t last 🙄. Couldn’t pass up a Tribal Lock for $69.99 to my door from company in TX. If I wanted to nitpick, sure the blade is slightly off center but so are many others that folks hand selected and bought anyway. At that price and mine is a user I have zero complaints.
I cringed every time you forced that compass open, if you just looked at the locking device you could see how it opened! As for the so called repair on the knife handle, do you really think it’s a good look to have bone on one side and cheap plastic on the other, definitely not cool.
I think it looks awesome and you won’t ever have to carry it so in other words “not you monkey not your circus”. And I know now about the button. Thanks for your inner thoughts. 🤫🤫🤫

K & E (maker of the compass) was well known for their slide rules, "back in the day".

It’s hard to tell the age in those.

Amazon has plastic inserts which significantly reduce evaporation, I've used them for years and they're great ‼️👍🏻
