      LITERALLY!!!!!!

    • @jaginaiaelectrizs6341
      @jaginaiaelectrizs6341 Год назад +2

      @Booper Dooper I said _ironically_ wholesome. Her age made it questionable-but their actual relationship with each other was otherwise relatively healthy, if he had been younger OR if she had been a legal adult[ and had not began their relationship /under false pretenses /with a lie]; particularly, compared to many of the other relationships that happened on that tv show. (My words were chosen quite intentionally, although leaving an S off at the end of 'later seasons' was accidental.)
      The fact that she was above the legal age of consent and was in fact consenting, as well as actively deceived him about her age, might not make a difference to you(and that's fair enough either way)-but it would make a difference legally[ if the case ever were to actually be tried in court], and it makes a difference psychologically or morally-speaking as well. (Statutory Rape is not the same offense as Child Molestation, for a legitimate reason; and a teen might not be an adult yet, but they are also not still a child either. Teens ARE at a completely different stage of overall ability for comprehension and brain/body development than a child is, even though they are not quite on the same level as what a fully-fledged adult is either, and that is relevant and does matter somewhat in general.) It was always complicated and messy and unfortunate, and understandably not for everyone, but it wasn't originally quite so completely and totally creepy.
      The Ezra/Alison reveal occurred at the beginning of the second half of the 4th season, the reveal that he knew exactly who Aria was even when they first met happened at the very end of the second half of season 4. (The entire tv series was 7 seasons long.) That's a little further than just halfway through the tv series-especially when considering the fact that the PLL tv series always only aired half of a season in one stretch of time, with a minimum of 4 months between when the first half of a season finished airing and when the second half of that season would start. And only the tv show's writers' room knows if the second half of a season was even planned ahead for at the same time as the first half was written or was not even thought up at all until later on; but it is at the very least probably quite unlikely that those twists were already planned way back in the beginning of the tv series, especially since those reveals never even existed at all in the books.
      If those reveals had never happened in the tv series either, the relationship still would have been questionable and understandably not approved of by everyone, but at least it wouldn't have been completely or totally reprehensible and creepy almost regardless of whether they had even been the same age or not[ like it ended up being after season 4]. (But at least they did actually break up after that[ specifically because of that reason], and did not just immediately get back together again either; because that would have been even worse. But I'm not here arguing over whether they should or shouldn't have continued their relationship after his past involvement with Alison and prior knowledge of Aria's youthful age was revealed at all-I'm just saying, before that information was revealed, their relationship wasn't quite so undebatably despicable[ although individual personal-mileage would of course still vary]. But[, because of that individual personal-mileage], you are absolutely free to disagree.🙂)
      Ezra gets arrested in book 3, and then released without being convicted of anything, but does lose his job. He moves out of town and is never seen again until Aria contacts him in book 10, but eventually she stops trying to rekindle their relationship together after he has some involvement with some girl other than her. (There were originally only 8 books planned, when the tv series first started-but the popularity of the tv series caused the book series to be extended twice as long than was originally planned.) Which isn't truthfully that much more extreme than what happened in the tv series, at all, really.

      I'm glad they didn't have them do it. It's not like A was actually there, actively shocking them or pulling fingernails off their moms or something, if they didn't. Plus, it's nice when characters actually stick to their morals every once in a while-especially after we've already seen them slip and fall before, morally-speaking, and then climb back up again; after a certain point, it just feels undermining to me of any possibility of them actually not just being totally horrible people, despite any claims that they aren't. But it did make it morally incongruous with when they basically intentionally sent A after Chip before, even knowing what had happened to that one jock in the smurf costume. Then again, maybe that's actually what makes it make sense, since they're just constantly in this limbo of being tested to see if they are or aren't "their mothers' daughters" or 'just how far the apples did or didn't really fall from the trees' or whatever the whole entire series. idkk
      It only seemed pointless to me because it only lasted, like, 5 seconds. And we were rushing to the ending. But the false "falling action"/"resolution" or whatever afterward, before the final 'twist' right before the credits rolled, lasted kind of too long by comparison.
      I dunno, building things up and then only half-assedly delivering on it or completely deflating it entirely as if it was just red-herring[ but not even done right/well] was kinda this series modus operandi tho, I think. _(Like, there were just a LOTT of things that felt pointless to me , overall. So, by the end, that sort of thing barely even made me blink twice really? 🤷‍♀️ Loll)_

  • @iremxvxx
    @iremxvxx Год назад +162

    the original pll is fun because you never see A directly, that way it can be anybody under the hood. that’s why everybody loved the mona reveal. by making A be so physically prominent in shots they lost that mystery element and had to go with the “lost sibling” trope.

      (Did everybody love the Mona reveal, though? I can't entirely recall how reception was or not, back when it first happened.)
      I think the _real_ reason they lost that "mystery" element is because they went slasher/horror genre with it rather than mystery/thriller. Like, it wasn't so much how prominent it was, as I think it was just how they showed us A at all .. basically _before_ they had even been threatened via txt msg at all yet. And the way they showed us what it was all about, _before_ the girls even knew anything, even though it had happened to their mothers and not to them-rather than letting us discover things they did. It kind of answered questions before they were even asked, so-to-speak, which kinda sucked all the suspense out of watching the questions be answered later. But maybe that's just me, quibbling over semantics? idk

    Well… on the surrogacy thing it largely depends on where you are. In some places the one giving birth has all the right until they sign them away after the child is born. And a lot of people don’t get the right paperwork done so this is scarily more common than it should be. I even read about a case where a surrogate mom kept the kid, got taken to court, and ended up winning child support from the biological dad.

    I actually surprisingly ended up being entertained by PLL: Original Sin. I honestly liked the new liars characters and their actresses and the concept/storyline of the show.
    *I will say, I do miss the campiness factor that was more prevalent in the original Pretty Little Liars. (Edit: I have seen a lot of PLL related videos that some people like the campiness factor of the show)
    *Also, I was glad to see more representation of characters of color and LGBTQ characters compared to the original Pretty Little Liars.
    *I do agree that the show is trying to redeem different storylines/themes that the original fail to depicted sensitively, so I really appreciate it.
    *But the ending was a little bit underwhelming for me but overall it was okay.
    *I do agree there were a couple plot holes/flaws, characters that were underutilized in the story that I wish they could have expanded upon or there were a couple of missed opportunities. And a lot of subplots.
    It was a entertaining messy tv show. (Also the mom’s sins were brutal.)

I know its a different show and i try not to compare it to the OG, but i think that there was literally no need for an A in this show. In the OG, A felt more central and very connected, but i wasnt feeling it here at all. The slasher thing was done well though, despite it being a bit cringy. I think the originals glamour and the rosewood girls are still too iconic to touch, it hasn’t been long enough yet to surpass them but the original sin ladies did a good job imo

    I think the thing that bothers me the most is the fact none of this is actually a mystery, "A" knows exactly who was responsible and just doesnt do anything about it.

    The group don't all have one daughter, though. The killer was after six daughters from six antagonists who aged into bad parents. The five moms, and one dad. And they clearly wanted a specific daughter from Tom.

    I literally can't get over how similar it is to the Scream TV show... it's so hard to appreciate the show for what it is with the glaringly similar yet worse plot points. Generally, the show was not a bad watch, cliche and predictable but definitely fun. Love to see a cast of mostly women! I wish they leaned more into "big lies" being kept and slowly unraveled like the original PLL. Honestly, a happy medium between PLL and Scream TV show could have been found had they had a better writing team. I guess it'll be a really long time until we get a decent teen show again.... (fingers crossed for that Degrassi reboot!)

    Super good video, Jedi. This is a show I'd never care about, still happy to listen for half an hour because you're such an enjoyable creator.

    The last episode of Only Murders in the Building, who even called it out, addressed a finale that lacked information so well. Especially compared to this.

    I have never seen any version of PLL or Riverdale. The way this video starts out convinces me that I should binge both.
