    Thanks for your tutorial. I live in an older double wide, figure I'll die here too. After A/C contractor quoted me $10,000 for a new Gas pack Combo and replacing the duct work . I figured I would repair and replace myself.I bought new risers to replace bad ones. I was looking for some training on installing them and found your video!!! I'll run to Lowe's tomorrow pick up what I need. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!

    Viewing from Dickinson, Texas and my AC registers are in the ceiling! Lol! Anyway, problem: We've got 75% humidity and a heat index of 105 to 108 the last few days with megatons of moisture coming in from the Gulf of Mexico (which is about 7 miles from my front porch.) My den and breakfast room registers are dripping moisture from inside and along the edges, ( drywall at the wet corners is soaking it up like a sponge, too.) The boxes are insulated so I'm assuming this is a leak in the boxes (perhaps where they tie in to the ducts?) and moist air is getting sucked in from the attic. I've got metal repair tape, heavy duty outdoor duct tape and foam if I need it. What is the best way to seal off the connections and boxes?

    If you don't thoroughly clean the ducts first, how do you see the holes?

    Mastic over the tape? Perhaps the other way around would inspire an improved surface adhesion?

      The tape seals the big holes & provides smooth surface for mastic to get into any smaller ones.

    I suggest you test with that acetone! You don't want to have to replace a customer's floor! Acetone is serious business.

    Thats great for sealing the registers to the floor but what about the rest of the duct work that is leaking, I had Aeroseal installed in my home and now it is all sealed not just the registers.

    Tip? Keep the guy away from the microphone so he isn't rubbing something against it the entire video. (That "velcro" sound)

    Didn't he do a well enough job with the tape? the CFM is so low at a register mastic wouldn't really prevent air loss after taping it would it?

    Remember ..... this is a mobile trailer.
    You will have better luck sealing a "duck" than sealing a "duct" when it comes to a mobile trailer.

      Is it better to replace the duct work?

    • @Val-ee4hd

      If you mean a motor home maybe true. If your talking about a Manufactured home brought in on wheels and then set ( mobile home or trailer house) These are made to set as a permanent place just like a house. Should be no problem to seal them if you make sure to clean well before applying mastic. I don't recommend tape of any kind since mice and bug can chew through it and over time the glue fails.

    If your expert doing that it's seems like your not cause you know your sealing just the boots .you will not see a big different until you seal under every single line down there i

    The butyl tape is not a good fix and should not be used. If you go to the trouble of cleaning the metal surfaces then use mastic and a fiber mess. the tape will not last very long.

    jeez, was waiting for that acetone open quart container to spill all over the customer's nice grey carpet.
    Dudes don't you use a drop cloth or something? And that mike velcro sound is annoying as heck, sounds like that other guy standing nearby is wrapping and taping packages right next to the microphone. Just sayin.

    • @Bajaheat
      @Bajaheat 7 лет назад

      steve m nice grey carpet? You realize the customer is getting all this work done for free. I realize he is still getting paid by the gov but I'm damn sure that if I got my house winterized or whatever for free I wouldn't give a rats ass if they spilled some if I had 20 year old carpet.

    • @mikel9567
      @mikel9567 6 лет назад +3

      Just because they are getting the work done for free is no excuse to risk destroying customers property. Not to mention, spilling acetone in general isn't a good thing as it can cause damage or health effects. And in actuality the work isn't being done for free, it's paid for by taxes. Nothing is free

      If the vents have never had tape on them (which it looks like those haven't) I would think rubbing alcohol would work just as well and not be near as harmful as that acetone. Yeah alcohol can strip wax off a floor but won't take color out of carpet.

  • @chriskathol

    That is not butyl, nor would you want to use butyl for this, it's foil tape. butyl is a gummy substance that real tin bashers use on large ductwork. Also, just sealing up the boot is kinda uselesss without sealing the entire duct line, and stuffing insulaiion down that last line is mickey mouse, if you want to disconnect a line then do it and cap it off...

      You're right! So my duct work is under all my hard wood floors. Beside that Aeroseal thing that is pretty expensive...what other methods can I use to seal the rest of my ducting? Without tearing up the floor. Thanks!
