- Dead Island 2 has finally arrived. After being passed around, I think it's safe to say most of our expectations were relatively low. However, I'm happy to say that Dead Island 2 not only is real, but also real fun. It finds its separation from the competition in the nitty-gritty with exquisite, painstaking detail in its combat. It's not a long time, but a good time in Hell-A.

I had Dead island 2 preordered from GameStop for 8 years! The pride I had taking my receipt to GameStop was accompanied by look of shock and awe from the employees. One guy high fives me and the manager gave me a dead Island promotional prop. I’m so excited!

Dead island 2 shocked me, honestly I'm not a graphics guy but this is the first game where I'm shocked at how accurate or life like the gore is and the fact thats it feels as close to real life looking without being creepy
I'm relieved the devs decided to make it more linear. The older and busier I'm becoming, particularly as a full-time student, the less time I have for video games so time is now an aspect I take into consideration with new releases, particularly open worlds.
I hope this game gets the support it needs. They could do a lot for this game with DLC.
Even if we can get something similar to a Riptide expansion, I feel like that would really help with the quality of life, on top of DLC characters, skins, weapons, and side missions like Dying Light.
i hope the dlc introduce a new island thats more open for exploration. otherwise why keep calling this game "dead island" when its not on an island anymore....

@@donkeylips8252 first 2 games were on an island because the original was based on a vacation island paradise, hence the name. The second being technically an expansion of the former more than a whole new game, continuing the island theme but with then trying to escape the island they crashed on when escaping the original island. At this point it’s the franchise name but leaving the island setting was a good move.

Honestly I'd argue that youtubers are more important than the press. I feel alot of people will value the words of content creators over the words of the "journalists"

I do, I was looking an IGN articles and they all feel so skewed compared to public opinion (via reviews on the game from GameStop or RUclipsr reviews)

I'm a few hours into it and I agree--it's fun--and I also agree that the relative linearity is welcome. That has allowed me to turn off the compass and quest markers. I have to explore quite thoroughly to find my objectives but the environmental detail really holds up and I'm not getting bored/frustrated.

You mentioned the high gore and I can’t help but think this influenced Dying Light 2’s ‘Gut Feeling (gore) Update’ that released this week as well. Both games will likely help sales of the other honestly for people wanting that zombie smashing fix.
DL2 is just lacking overall I played it for the first time last month as it was $15 on Xbox it’s at best just meh and that’s coming from someone who loved DL1 and now I finally finished my first run in dead island 1 I can say overall the atmosphere is pretty terrifying and I like how grounded it is (no parkour) zombies hit hard some use melee weapons and throw them at you and the super power thing in DL2 does kinda ruin It for me to each their own but flying around leaping everywhere isn’t my forte for a zombie game unless the zombies can do the same and I mean all of them not some. DL1 handled parkour much better and limited you and get faster as you near the end also the flow is way better it feel downgraded in 2
Bruh they didint copy a game update that happend to just drop on the same day and tbh isn’t the best I have over 120hrs on dl2 so I obviously like it but it’s no where near as advanced the combat is a little lacking.

Dead island was so fun and the co-op allowed for hilarious moments with friends that I still remember to this day. I have no doubt this one has the ability to do the same but we will see 😅 great video once again Matty

I'm so glad this game even came out. The details of the zombie killing seem very unique, even in an overly saturated market that is zombie video games. I'll have to check this one out

Just a side note everyone- dying light 2 released an update today that IMMENSELY improves the physics and gore! Just like the first game! Play that in the mean time haha
Wife picked it up for me today. Going to play it all night after kids go to bed. I just want a game with a not so serious story and a fun zombie killing experience. I wish it had couch coop tho.

The fact that devs have continued working on the exact same thing we saw 8 years ago and it still stays true to exactly what they wanted then...just awes me. Remember when duke was stuck in development hell and how different that game became? Thats not whats happening here and it makes me giddy
And if I do face off against 2 zombies that look exactly the same, I could just mutilate them in different ways til they look utterly distinguishable from each other. As psycho as that sounds, its absolutely impressive
Just from playing the game for a few hours i can say that turning off the enemy health bars makes the game look even more viseral and immersive then it already is.

This sounds like everything I was hoping for this whole time! Fresh experience while still retaining the dead island "fun factor" that doesn't take itself too seriously lol get on, explore, loot, and slay zombies👌
Alot of people are hating on DI2 but I love it and it feels like a classic DI game but better cause of the awesome gore graphics. I'm really surprised how good it came out after switching hands, I thought it was never even gunna happen. I'm overall happy with the game and been having a blast playing with my friends it makes it so much funner.

I was expecting this game to be a serious mess considering it's turmoil during development. I'm genuinely very happy with it, I'm enjoying it more than Dying Light 2 so far.
This game knows what it is and doesn't try to be something else, I really like how they shifted focus from just flat destruction regardless of damage type to damage types doing specific things and using the environmental hazards to ur advantage... in dead island 1 and riptide u could use the same weapon on everyone and it worked the same, just switching it up to from the previous games gives it a tiny bit more to think about... oh I got a crusher, time to work the extremities with blunt weapons, got a fire fighter cant use elemental weapons need to use bleed or blunt weapons, oh I'm surrounded by smaller zombies time to use my upgraded ground pound... it's the small details like that that I like, like everytime I see a car with the hood open I know I can grab the battery and I now have a "3 toss shock grenade" u have to wait for the battery to stop sparking b4 picking it back up but it usually does right b4 the zombies do, use the water jugs, fuel tanks, and caustic x containers to thin the herd, they are there to be used and they made them fun so use em!!!
I'm having a blast with the game, I think the cards work better than the skill trees just for the simple fact u can swap cards and change ur playstyle on the fly.
For me this is a very fun sequel, is it game of the year? probably not, but in a gaming landscape of terrible releases and unfinished crap being pawned off as a finished game, seeing dead island 2 be a complete and functional game is very refreshing. (4/5 stars)

At 9:10 I was slightly confused on what video I was watching lol. Dying light 2
Me and my best friend are only about 20% into the main story, but we love it so far. Me and my buddy have played a multitude of shooter games, but together, we seem to not really mind the "lacking" gun play in dead island 2.. it just felt expected, from dead island since in the first game, unless you were using Pernas fury, guns were absolutely terrible at killing zeds.. In dead island 2 we at least get guns that are for sure capable of taking out the Z's, without being so powerful that I makes you feel like you no longer need a melee weapon, like Dying Light 1 made you feel . I actually love this. Dead island really does stay true to the original game, and I would say it is well worth playing the first game, before the second game, because there are a lot of mini references, and name drops of major characters from the first game in dead island 2, and that just adds to the experience for me. I find myself calling the special zombies by their original names despite their name changes in dead island 2. The gore as well is one of my favorite things about the game. This is truly a gore-fest, and it's lovely for those with the stomach for it.

Great to hear that you liked it, I saw one review giving it a super low score and it made me think twice but like most of the time, you have the most grounded reviews and seeing what the game is and not what it should have been.
Edit: I don't mean you do not talk about the low points and stuff, I mean that you usually do not deduct points from features other games have and the game does not.
That's the problem with people, they hear some casual's opinion on a game and ita automatically a terrible game, you know how many great games got a low score and they're actually good games? For example game like elex 1 and 2. Smh youtubers suck, matty has a passion for games ,but the majority of other youtubers just go with the bandwagon, if I was to listen to youtubers all day I would'nt have enjoyed a lot of the games I own
@@punishedhek7495 elex 1 is one of my all time favorite games so i feel you there. another example is I think the evil within 1 is one of the best horror games of all time, and the 2nd game is a complete letdown for me but if you see the review scores its the exact opposite

Yes. As a father of two little ones, and with limited game time, this is music to my ears. I love the first game and riptide. I couldn’t get into Dying light for whatever reason, but this is right up my alley.
Same, and I loved dead island both of them but dying light just didn't hook me. This one is so much funner then any zombie game yet, feels like classic dead island with better gore.

Thank you so much for this logical review! So many of the big companies slammed the game and were hyper focused on the forgettable story and cringe characters (things nobody cares about in Dead Island 🤦🏾♂️), while glossing over the amazing gameplay/zombies.

Problem is character should eat , sleep , piss and go to work and also pay à rent to be realistic enough and look like real life nowadays for people to call à game à good game ... everyone just forgot what a video game is and that's why Dead Island 2 is so great .
@@mathieubardoux4596 the game’s just very repetitive in my opinion. Everything is locked to pad out run time. There’s very little areas that you’re allowed to fully explore before you get that certain key item. There are more keys required for the story than actual main missions available. I was incredibly depressed upon finding a trash can that required a key. Wasn’t needed for the story but it got incredibly old and sour at that point.

A game not being open world is a big positive to me now. Far too many open world games, he market is saturated with them. Let’s get back to fun single player games that don’t need 100 hours to complete 👌🏻
It’s a first person new aged beat ‘em up. Back in the day it was the same few enemy types to fight. They should look at it like more of a beat ‘em up with combos that can be upgraded. Juggle and target switch. Just to add. And increase amount of zombies.

Finally ... Dead Island is just a video game and that what's make it so great . Where everyone is missing their mark over hyping beautiful complexe game . Dead Island just nailed it , feels great im playing it right now and it's just a good game simple . So many 90$ game I bought in past years that ended up in boxes somewhere in my house ... always to much , overhyped , not what you where expecting ... dead Island 2 is nothing of that it's a zombie killing straight foward get cool weapon , slay zombies doesn't take itseld to seriously . Imo it's just a great game .
I don't know why, but I just hate any kind of tropical and sunny setting, but maybe this will be a rare exception, like Far Cry 3 was a long time ago.

The semi open world decision works better for a game like this cause in the original the open world felt too empty with many places that dont have much purpose, and made it very annoying when it came to doing quests sometimes as a spot could be locked off till you find the quest for it

Spoilers! For story if anyone cares. But my issue with the game is its weak connection with the last game.
Sam.b is the only connection this game has to the others. The zombie virus in this one is a new one.(I think) Also the last hour is paced poorly. Having some character we only talk to for about 30 minutes overall be the only thing that can save the world. Then they just vanish in the last moment. Then there is that numan stuff. Unrelated to the same thing that happend in Riptide.

AMD gave me Dead Island 2 as a bonus. Downloaded it yesterday, it looks and plays nice.
