A question when you are spinning. When you start spinning and want to stop, does it stop randomly or do you stop it? If so, how do you stop it?
How are you gonna stop?
Next video: how to stop spinning

"Sir, we're closing up. Stop spinning."

MarinaMars “just close up I never learned how”

Him: so start spinning then simply raise a leg
Me: *•laughs in hurt beginner*
I felt that
I feel there is a long way to become a beginner...
I feel that 👁👄👁
SAME- I was skating on a pond today and I fell so many times trying to spin properly! I can’t find out which part of the blade I should be spinning on.
@@alana4810 Forward a little but not too far forward. Also, the only way to get better is to try things without fear. Get yourself some padded pants and keep going. If you enjoy the ice enough you'll find the reward in the small advancements you make. :)
There's no one else on the ice, you're lucky. Every time I go skating it's full of people
if you really want to practice anything (dancing, skating, swimming....), forget trying it in a public facility. There will never be room. You'll have to join a club and pay for extra lessons, and even then space will be sparse.
Overpopulation will do that.
If there is a lot of people, find the training area and make sure you practice and don’t just stand there
@@Amphitera lol I do all three of those activities
Just get there really early
I practiced this on super smooth floor and mega slippery socks and when I got on the ice it felt almost the same!
Eh.... wow 😮 Really? 😮
how to practice at home
lolol me
Actually not really unless it’s really slippery because when you’re skating your skates levitate with the blades so...
NinaGamerUK This really helped! Thank you :)
Today, I attempted this spin for the first time. The best I could do was a half rotation. As with all things ice skating related, it is a lot harder than it looks.
you got this great start!
When I first started I did it on my own the ice kind of forced me I can actually do very small jumps now and my first time was 2 days ago
And it already looked hard to me lol
Dank Memes cool

So true
My spins improve dramatically after watching this! I wasn't balancing and centering myself at all and I actually got 4 rotations in!
Great job! We're glad the video helped you improve!
I’ve done ballet for 8 years and I really want to ice skate for more muscle
a lot of people that do figure skating also do ballet
I’m 14 and a horse rider, but love iceskating. I have my own skates and go ice skating a lot and your videos help me a lot since my parents say that I already do horse riding which is very expensive so I can’t follow figure skating lessons. Thank you so much!!
We are happy to hear that our tutorial videos allow you to learn to ice skate despite not being able to have lessons in your rink. It is one of our goals that everyone should be able to learn to ice skate no matter what their situation is. If you have any questions, please let us know!
This is what I watch when I get bored during quarantine! 😊
Haha I'm happy to hear you choose to watch our content!! Check out our blogs trying out roller skates too ❤️
Definitely one of the best videos I've ever seen. No one ever tells you where to spend on the blade and I think that's what trips a lot of people up. You can't tell visibly that people are spinning on The Rocker of the blade. I had to find that out on my own
4 years on...have you watched more than three videos (counting this one) yet?
The amount of Yuri on Ice fans are too damn high.
don't judge us
WE WERE BORN TO MAKE HISTORY- no, oh okay
Yeah true, lol
CAN YOU HEAR- my bad
God yes😂
Am I the only one who wants to learn how to spin and not from yuri on ice? :))
I swear I don't even know what yuri on ice is
I thought I was the only one but guess not
Yes
😩🖐
I guess you were born to make history (i’m sorry)
My ice skating teacher doesn’t pay attention to me so here I am learning from this guy lol thanks though
I love your pfp! Juuzou
I've just found your videos, started learning in Feb 2018, i'm 40, and decided it was time, my local rink closes during the summer, I use a rink further out but can only go once a week, so your videos are a god send,
Instructions unclear, my neighbors dog is now drowning
Wait wha-
YES. FINALLY A TUTORIAL with the best choice of words 😍
AWESOME! THANK YOU! CANT WAIT FOR NEXT WINTER ICE SKATING SEASON TO TRY ALL!
I didn't even watch Yuri on ice but Yuzuru Hanyu took me here.
Omg a stay😳😳
Hi Fellow Stay! Tbh both of them bring me here, i still cant believe when i find out his age i tought he was 20-19
I just got into figure skating, I live on a farm in the rural illinois, I never really paid much attention to this until the 2022 Olympics, just watching nathan chen, yumo kagiyama and shomo uno, I want to start to learn to figure skate. My only problem is confidence, learning to believe that I could skate. But I am willing to try cause this is so cool!
Excellent course. Thank you.
here 'cause of Johnny Weir 🙌🏼
Annie Gans same

Johnny is awesome and his book is amazing but that’s not the reason I’m here haha
Please may you do tutorials on like specific spins? Like camel or pancake?:) also I can’t jump high when I jump. I need help on flips and stuff! Would really appreciate it thanks ;)
We have tutorials on those moves up on our website icecoachonline.com
I'm sure you'll find everything you're looking for there, including personalised feedback from professional skating coaches.
Great tips! You're a fantastic teacher :)
Thanks so much, that was actually so helpful!
Thanks I’m totally gonna try this!
this helped me thank you so much
Somehow your way of skating works so well for me, better than any other videos!
thanks for this!! so helpful!
Amazingly explained 😊 thanks
i DID enjoy that spin video, you are super helpful and clear! I hope to watch more of your stuff soon ^^
Happy to hear you enjoyed it :)
such a helpful vid thank u
Good video. Thanks!
Thank you for this!!!
nice spin!
Very good. I think you must have had an excellent coach teach you.
Live this channel!
*i will try it*
Thank you!❤️
This is super helpful ⛸
Also to help with the dizziness I learned in ballet is to spot or focus on one thing, as you spin sharply turn your head to keep looking at that thing. Idk if that made sense
It helps if you spins slowly but for advance spins, I just get used to the dizziness
Yes i do contemporary and we learned that too. One of the first things you learn
This doesnt apply on figure skating unfortunately. You spin way to fast to spot. And actually when you are first learning and spinning quite slowly they tell you not to spot.
Makes it look so easy
awesome! please do some more lessons!
This is great! I'm binge watching all your videos. I'm going to start skating and your beginner videos are easy to follow. (Not to mention encouraging! All this stuff I thought was really hard is actually easy when you break it down)
We appreciate your kind words!
One request: Could you please make a video about exercises to do off the ice that would be help with moves (maybe for beginners)? Thank you!
Amateur Vlogger we actually have an off ice section on our website www.icecoachonline.com
You can also send us requests on the website of what content you would like to see us add and get some feedback on your skating by professionals.
Thank you very much! I'll have to check that out!
Top tip: if you dont own any skates (like me) just find a really smooth surface and use either fluffy socks or walking boot shoes and practice like that😊
We love the creativity!
I am learning how to ice skate on my own and i really appreciate your videos 🤟🏼
Thanks for showing your support! We're happy they are helping you. If you have any questions on any of them, please let us know!
Wow, really? Thank you so much!!! I am so grateful 🌷
Omg I love watching figure skating I do want to learn how to be a figure skater never been on ice in my life would love to learn but in nz . Such a graceful sport I did graceful dancing
If you happen to be in an area one day with an ice rink, you should give it a go. It's a wonderful sport to learn.
Trying my best to learn how to skate and do cool spins >_< ive always wanted to learn! Thx
Thankyou so much!!!! This is super helpful!!!!
Thanks!
I love ice skating but somehow it’s so hard to spin or skate backwards for me lately... My friend told me yesterday when we went ice skating, that my left foot is bending out (again), my right foot stands straight on the ice and the ice skating shoe is tight on my right foot but I feel like it’s not on the left one. I once was able to skate backwards very well and was learning how to spin, I haven’t fully learned how to spin then I told myself I will continue next time I go ice skating. That day, when I wanted to continue learning how to spin it all felt so weird on my left foot, my left foot broke... I wasn’t caring at first but after the time I felt strong pain on my left foot I started to skate a little slower and went to the bank outside of the ice rink. It felt soooooo hard to walk and when I wanted to move my left foot in any way it was HUUUUUUUURTINGGG so bad. That all happened in 1 hour and i still had 3 hours left to stay but I was all by myself. I decided to go on ice and just practise some spins and not really “ice skating” forward or backwards. While I tried spinning I fell soooo bad that my left foot completely broke. The pain was unreal. Luckily a man who worked there called the ambulance and my parents. Now my foot is healed and I’m getting new Ice skating shoes... it’s my dream to become a figure skater and all skaters fall right? I will never stop ice skating, I may have to start from the beginning now but it’s worth it
We're sorry to hear about your injury! But happy to hear that you've recovered! Getting new skates is a good idea. If in future you feel some pain that isn't normal, it's worth getting it fully checked out before you injure yourself even more. Also, make sure you follow your rehab plan for your foot completely!
We've all had nasty falls and injuries, it's the tough part of the sport! The best we can all do is take precautions to minimise this risk.
Thank you for sharing your story!
You make it look so easy!
Thanks, but it's taken me many years of practice to make it look that easy!
thank you :)
OMG 😱 I GOT TO TRY THIS THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN
You're welcome :)
OMG thank you thank you
i want more videos :) it's soooooo gooooood
Ottimo tutorial👍🏼
It's so cool 😎
i'm gonna try this today, wish me luck!
how did it go?
Tack så hjärtligt
You just got a new sub
We appreciate the support
krótko, prosto i na temat :D
Very well described/
I took class to learn how to skate most coach teach like this man and I couldn't skate not even spin. I always thought that they should put me in the harness so my body could feel the spin and then I can perfectly myself but they always said that for advance skaters. I believe there should be more great ice skating coach that can help skaters that hass no talent at all. They believe teaching like this to everyone any skaters would learn but they are wrong each person is different.
We're sorry to hear you have had a negative experience with the local coaches in your ice rink. Please bare in mind that this video is general advice intended to help people as a whole. For specific cases where someone is struggling, we would need to see what they are doing and give them advice and feedback based on what we see. Part of the job of coaching is to find a way to deliver the correct information and feeling of the move in a safe way to the student. As you mention, the approach should be based on what works with each individual student and adapted accordingly.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask us!
Hi thank you it has been my dream to be a figure skater but I can't skate. I have been like 10 couches they are great in teaching but not for a student like me. I don't know if you have coaches in NYC area like Chelsea Piers or Westchester ice casino, that I can paid and maybe this time I can really learn how to skate. I was thinking maybe I need a programmed to be choreograph so instead of figure skating school I can practice the program with the music and I can skate. My favorite program was Peggy Fleming at the Olympics, beautiful. Maybe on of your coach can teach me. Thank you have a beautiful day
A tip that I use that I don’t think was mentioned was that when you’re right about to go Spinning put more of your weight on your left foot (if you’re spinning left) and go a tad bit on your outer edge near your toes but not touching the toe pick. Idk this works for me
Thanks for the suggestion! We appreciate everyone helping each other out with additional tips and tricks :)
I'm watching this although I know I'll never had a chance to skate lol. The nearest skating rink we may had were way too far from ours hahaha.
Thank you Iv got a comp tomorrow I need help
Cool!! Now I only need to learn how to skate 😀
We have plenty more videos covering all sorts of ice skating skills if you're interested in learning more!
I'd hope I can do it the next time I head to the rink- I have a slight case of pelvic tilt...
Hello and thank you for the tutorial but I do was wondering if it works with rental skates too? Thank you in advance!
Thanks (:
Your videos are very helpful! Did you stop making videos?
Nobody:
Me: watching this with a broken arm
Me again: I should try this
I'm using rented skates and they're hocky ones would I still be able to learn to spin with those I'm getting figure skates Christmas
Do you have any tips for staying on the front part of your blade for one foot spins?? I have been struggling with having too much of my toe pick in the ice!
FASTER THAN YOU CAN HANDLE! XD you cut it off there?!?! D: how do you stay so upright, I keep falling forward?!
The same happens to me :(
How about how to stop
Release your arms and leg from the tight position and you will slow down enough to stop the spin in a controlled way
Ice Coach Online lol I totally know how to do that. /totally/
I train at that ice rink ❤️ viola wales ⛸⛸
It's Lloyd's hometown. We both pass by there when we're not performing in skating shows! It's a great facility!
Hah so do I
Hi there, thanks for this video. Does this work with ice hockey skates too?
Yes the technique is exactly the same, however it is perhaps a little more difficult in hockey skates as the rocker is different and there is no toe pick. That said I have seen a lot of people manage to do this and more in hockey skates.
My skates wont spin in a full circle. they kinda stop because they scratch the ice, any tips?
Hi, if you mean a two-feet spin, and you are spinning CCW (counter-clockwise), you might try to stand rather on your heel on the RIGHT foot and on the rocker of your left foot lifting a bit your left heel; if you mean one foot spin, it used to happen to me I scratched systematically with my toe-picks unil I found this genious clip : ruclips.net/video/Uz8lEtYzjSE/видео.html where they explain HOW to find the balance on the ROCKER : you have to LIFT your toes unless you are going to scratch, thing about your toes when you engage in spinning. I hope this might be helpful. Enjoy! Cheers.
Usually you spin on the ball of your foot so try that
This advice is excellent. I was about to type out exactly the same until I saw this comment
Cheers? Were did you get that from?
2:22 damn that was some good acting! Great video
I ice skate every day for 5 hours I’m a level 6 and I still need help spinning but axels camels and other things are easy for me.
I'm so happy to hear that the dizziness will decrease. I'm so dizzy just after 3 rounds lol
... "Faster than you can handle" D::
I'm kind of scared to do this. 😳
SarahGamer At the beginning it is a little bit akward but after a few times it will be like you do that all the time.
Great advice
Me 2 😳
Did it work for you guys
Here cause I'm obsessed with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir
For a two foot spin are you putting your weight on your rocker on both of your feet or just one leg? I do about two revolutions then wobble and have to stop. Advice please!
even weight on both feet!
can you do this on a inline skate?
there's something that drives me crazy and i don't understand. it's hard for me to spin and stay in place. i always fall out of my spins bc of that. do i need to go on my toe pick just before i start spinning to be more stable?
Can it be done on the hockey skates?
Yes it can! Like a lot of tricks on the ice, they are harder in hockey skates but a lot can be done. A two footed spin will not be too bad but going on to one foot will be a struggle.
Do you need figure skates to do this or can you do it with hockey skates
You can do with hockey skates but it might be more difficult since the rocker is a little different and you wouldn't have the toe picks
saw this on my home page for some reason cause ik how to spin aha but this is my ice rink yeee
anddd the ad for dental care in the background my besties dad owns it
Why am I good at skating (more of gliding) on the floor rather than the ice
Because you don't ice skate with socks on, you have sharp blades under your feet and you need to get used to that feeling
Ikr same😂
Do you need professional figure skating skates for these spins or can i do them with those skates that "fit all" which you get when you go skating in a public place?
As a professional that's been skating for over 20 years... even I might struggle to do a spin in those "fit all" skates but using your own skates that you can really get used to can help you improve dramatically
Thank you. Can you tell which blades is best to buy? Your blades is so fast. I 've bought a MK Flight 10.25"/02N blades, I cannot skate on them.
The blades we use are John Wilson Gold Seal, but they are for high level skaters an not necessary before you are trying very high level moves. I would say the issue you have is less likely due to the blade you mention, but more likely an issue with the boot they are on. Perhaps the boot is not the correct size for your foot, making it very hard to find the correct points of balance on your blade. I wrote a guide on my Patreon to help people check they have the correct sized skates. It might be very helpful for you 🙂
Now I know what I was doing wrong when I was trying to spin on one foot
How should you position your blades on the ice, where should your weight be?
if you're turning anti clockwise, try to put weight on the ball of the foot (left leg) and put the weight in the heel of the right foot. If turning clockwise, reverse that advice!
Hope this helps.
YOI has inspired me to do new things so im gonna try what the show is literally about. ICE SKATING. Am I good at it? I don't know! Would I like it? Let's see!
That'd great thag it has inspired you. Let us know how you get on, and if you like it!
I'm attempting this on hockey skates 😂
