- A review of the Sheraton Waikiki hotel in Waikiki, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. The Sheraton Waikiki is located in the center of Waikiki right behind the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, and is directly oceanfront. I really enjoyed the location of the Sheraton Waikiki because it is so central. I found the Sheraton Waikiki overall to be quite nice, the rooms were smallish, but very clean. The hotel definitely caters to Japanese guests as everything written in the hotel is in English and Japanese. My favorite part of the hotel was the Leahi Club Lounge for Gold/Platinum members. The views from the lounge were amazing... particularly Sunrise over Diamondhead. And at dinner, there was free wine which I pretty unusual for a domestic US lounge.
The one disappointing thing about the location though is that the beach sand in front of the hotel has been eroded away. It's a pretty short walk to get to the sandy beach, but it's just unfortunate that there isn't a beach directly in front. The other disappointing thing was that the hotel is definitely showing its age. The rooms have been spruced up, but the balconies and other common areas could use some more renovations.

I think it used to be that just the Sheraton Hawai'i hotels (not all Sheratons) were owned by the Japanese, might not still be true, but was in the 90's.
Kinda bummed at first since we're booked here this winter, but when you said it was better than HHV I was somewhat relieved, as this will be the first time that we'll Not be staying at the HHV. But, is there any entertainment in the bar or restaurants there?

We stayed at the Luana, and enjoyed it as it not as crowded as Sheraton
Regarding "Lawson Station", I just came back from Waikiki. I specifically walked from my hotel (Hilton Doubletree) to the Sheraton Just to grab a picture of Lawson's just to send to family back in Ohio. "Lawson's", now Japanese, actually began life in Cayahoga Falls, Ohio (near Cleveland). They were all over Ohio in the 60s and 70s when I was a kid growing up. In the mid 70s, a business agreement with the Japanese saw the first Lawson store open in Japan. I'm not sure how the separation and independence of the Japanese Lawsons came to be but the sign, logo, lettering are all the same as they were back in Ohio in the 60s and 70s. I'm sure you can find old (American) Lawson's commercials right here on youtube.

Christine. As an original version Hawaii 5 O fan, I always wondered what the two large statutes were in the opening theme. They are at the Punch Bowl. It is the Cemetery of the Pacific, and a must go to attraction. Just not widely known. You will be awed, and the memories of 5 O will come rushing back.

I was there in 1976...on the top floor was a great bar overlooking Diamond Head...I think it was called the Hanohano Room or something like that...looks like they took it out

As much as I dislike Oahu and Waikiki. It is nice to know it is there and absorbs so many tourists who want to come to Hawaii. If those same tourists were distributed across the rest of Hawaii, those places would not be what they are.

Having used to work for Starwood, Sheraton hotels have a place in my heart. Tho since they've been bought by Marriott, and I avoid Waikiki like the plague, I stay in Ko Olina!

Your criticism of the hotel being not close to the beach is ridiculous it’s literally a one minute walk from the pool area & in one of the best parts of Waikiki beach and yes I do agree with your opinion that this is the best hotel to stay in Waikiki

When we were at Waikiki, we ate lunch & dinner all week at Stix's Honolulu Noodles Restaurant (a Taiwan restaurant) which has home-made beef&bone&23 Chinese dry herbs& Chinese mushroom broth without MSG(did not get dry on our tongues after consumption) boiled up to 72 hours!
Noodles & won ton wrappers are home-made too!
We like the hearty piping hot Beef Soup Noodles & the hearty piping hot Won Ton Soup Noodles!
Natural, nutritious, tasty & not greasy! Very good service & clean too!
11am-2pm Beef Soup Noodles special price $15(a $6 off) served with green Bok Choy leaves & sliced green onions. Free condiments like hot chili sauces, beef butter,& pickled vegetables are served separately with the beef soup noodles also.

It's so crowded in Waikiki and Honolulu, traffic is a nightmare almost LA-ish. Kaua'i is definitely a more relaxing experience!

I am torn between Sheraton Waikiki and Moana Surfrider. Which is better? We are family of 4. Kids are 21 and 16.
I think I like them both equally.. but if you have a rental car then the Sheraton because the parking situation is way better

I think the Sheraton is better.. better location, more oceanfront rooms. I generally stay at the Marriott more than the Sheraton because the price is usually much cheaper at the Marriott than the Sheraton

I don't think any hotel room safes are "secure" -- they can always be opened by the staff

These rooms look very outdated. Too many Hotels on Waikiki need major renovations which doesn't seem to be happening. Can't figure that one out!
My favorite hotel is the Aston Waikiki the old gal is showing her age but you cannot beat the view or location on the end of the strip

Hawaii is expensive that's average cost for 7 days lodging in Waikiki
Yeah I knew that.
Just overpriced.
Flights are cheap compared to accommodation there.
I don't know who gave some of these hotels the permits to build where they did, but the Sheraton built literally right up to the lapping of the ocean, with only a tiny area for pedestrians walking along the ocean to go by on. It's pretty.... obtuse?
The other obtuse hotel developers were the ones who built the hotels near Diamond Head. And it looks like someone finally grabbed a brain, and did not allow development all the way up to Diamond Head, which would have obstructed the views for thousands of people in hotels all the way down Diamond Head.
Waikiki looks completely over-developed and overcrowded. When are they gonna stop? Till the entire island is skyscrapers?
It reminds me of Phi Phi Island Maya Bay in Thailand. The Thai government finally had to step in and completely close the beach indefinitely, as the throngs of tourists were wrecking the environment.
