Very helpful info. We have been looking at hickory and we live in South Carolina. Although we will have HVAC we might not take that chance now and go with another wood. We ordered some of your samples to check them out.

Cabin grade looks so rustic and nice. ...but I'm told it moves a lot with moisture and climate. What are the wood with least movement ?

Our cabin grade floors are solid hardwood. Solid hardwood will move the most due to moisture and climate changes in the home. Engineered hardwood was created to fix this issue with solid hardwood cupping or movement. Go with any engineered hardwood if you suspect lots of changes in climate or moisture in a home. 😃

I thought Ted Cook was going to be a dumb ass because of how he began his presentation. Turns out he’s extremely knowledgeable. I can’t disagree with anything he said, having played with woods over my lifetime. For me, hardwood is the most impressive floor available bar none. Nothing else offers the look and feel of natural wood.
That said if humidity fluctuations are a factor, I would use an engineered or solid vinyl product.
