      Come to think of it, it really does look newer than it is. I have VW Passat B5 from 1997, too. It's even the same color, just different engine (1.6 101hp gasoline).
      Once I was talking with some people that I had recently met and we started talking about our cars. I showed them a picture of mine and they asked me if my car is from 2005, when I told them it's from 1997 they were disappointed.

      @@zec8603 Mine has 215k km, but has some issues (like FR and RL windows not working, some minor electrical issues), but nothing major and I can live with them, so I haven't bothered to fix them. Just need a lot of time to fix them properly, but it's my only car and I need it basically every day, cannot spend a few days just fixing minor issues. I've had it for 3,5 years now, bought by my family when I got a driver's license.
      Actually I was planing to finish my other car (which is actually my dream car), drive it and in the mean time fix all issues on my Passat. Well, that did not happen, my other car is still not roadworthy.

    I still drive that same royal-green -97 but with a non turbo 1.8 ADR engine. Bought it as my first car in -08 for 4K € and now it has 290,000 on the dash. The pearl metallic color is just awesome, but the lacquer finish is peeling off badly from the engine hood. Basic maintenance has kept it running and never left me on the road. -28C weather, no preheat - no problems, starts on the first key turn every single time.
    Except the casual services (brakes, timing belt etc) I have changed a broken AC-blower (100€), broken power-window regulator (50€) and an airbag crash-sensor (50€). Once the Airbag controlling module was so jammed I couldn´t reset the fault codes. Local dealer said its 700€ a new module plus labor costs about the same. The fix was to send it to a small shop where they re-wrote the program inside the module, for 150€. I need a bigger car soon, going to miss this one that´s sure.

      Actually the engine, exhaust and brakes need the work rightaway as in the country this is filmed, you can't legally drive a car without mandatory MOT. But yeah, in capable hands, this car can totally be a decent daily still.

      @arthur850_ 3 года назад +1

      @@sidekickgarage9276 Yes you are right but it just depends on where the car lives. If this car lived in Germany or the netherlands were i live., then the car really needs some work! • @sidekickgarage9276

      @@arthur850_ Yup. Europe is similar in the rules i think. This car lives in Estonia, where you'll pass MOT only with minor surface rust and small things that don't cause driving safety issues. Things like a crack in the windshield, weepy engines, CO2 emissions or even mis-aligned headlights can all easily fail the car in MOT.

      the 1.9 tdi is the one that is known to be bomb proof, the one with VE rotary pump like this one.
      The 1.9 tdi pd is a bit more prone to issues (cam wear, injectors wear), but generally they are much stronger engines (a lot more punchy).
