    1st. Turn off water inlet.
2nd. Flush toilet to empty the tank.
3rd. Take about 2 gallons of water in a bucket.
4th. Lift the bucket waist height or higher while you’re standing next to the toilet.
5th. Pour the water straight down the throat of the toilet in a rapid stream.
6th. The water will rush down the drain and pull the bowl water out with it.
7th. The rusty stains will now be exposed to be worked on with brush and cleaner.
If you need to repeat, repeat steps 3 to 6 to rinse what you’ve already done and clean again. When clean turn the water inlet and flush as normal.

What if the rust is really corroded & is at the very bottom of the toilet bowl where the water can't be below it?

Zep acidic toilet bowl cleaner works like a miracle. Tried vinegar and other cleaners didn't touch corrosion. The bottom of flush hole had really bad corrosion due to low flow flush and it looks brand new now.

I also find that the best way to clean a filthy, rusty toilet is to clean a sparkling clean one instead.

Demonstrations like that should be done with truly dirty toilets. You did with a clean one.

There's no rust in that toilet. I have to use pool acid to get rid of mine.

After getting the water down, maybe trying something like easy-off might be cool too. Your hair is awesome, just saying.

This is all too much work. Use WHISK or powdered Rust Off. Then scrub a little. We have super rusty water and I never have to do all this.

That’s not CLR. It’s Lime Away. Different product.

You say you prefer using CLR, but then proceed to use Lime A-way.
