New to me! Just heard this yesterday on Underground Garage. Now it's stuck in my head. "Doo Doo Doo Doo, DooDoo Doo Doo Doo" A cartoon chimp spewing Morse code! The flatulent grunt of the electronic.....bassoon? Sublime!
This guy was the paramount genius of rock n roll before the Beatles. I wish his career had gone better, he could have made a huge contribution. At least he gave the world "Telstar." Sheer genius, way ahead of its time. And The Bublight is brilliant. For what it's worth, it is the true beginning of Progressive Rock.
I live 10 min walk from the flat where Joe Meek ran his studio. There's a bench on pavement outside with a small plaque & another plaque high above the shop. So high you wouldn't notice if you didn't know to look for it. Same with writer Joe Orton, who met tragic fate in his flat not too far from Holloway Rd. Plaque so high as to be almost wasted effort. Sad. They were both so influential.
Well deserved. I'm glad he got some credit while he was alive. He was way ahead of his time. "The Bublight", "The Valley of the Saroos", they still sound incredible. I heard them when I was six, never forgot them.
My favrite song of ALL TIME! Joe Meek rules! Oh, & in reply to MonkeySeeism, surely murdering one's landlady could only ever be construed as a good thing? But, y'know, I could be wrong... ;-)
Good background music but ur editing software is not that good, so you should have the one that my neighbor Shammy has. DMX-Floor thousand C it has great pentatonic and dramatic editing cookies!!! They travel into the cool world and then meet santa in the coco rainforest!!!
There is a new documentary being created about Joe Meek, and the producers have a kick-starter account to gather finishing funds for it. They are only $6,000 short, but they also have a little less than 24 hrs. to go on it. If you read this message, and can contribute, please do. They have worked long and hard on what looks to be a great and highly informative film. The kick-starter link is below. Thanks! www.kickstarter.com/projects/joemeek/a-life-in-the-death-of-joe-meek-finishing-funds
My mother in law sings this with her sisters. Gloria, Jean and Sue

I put that bench plaque there,
Maggie Stredder (glasses) and Gloria George ex-The Ladybirds / Vernons Girls. The 'B' side "Boy Trouble" has Ritchie Blackmore in the backing band.
The Ladybirds were regulars on " the benny hill show "
Have heard it today on Rockabilly-Radio...!!!
Used to do discos early 1980s . This would have been a monster hit if rereleased at that time. Joe Meek was so ahead of the game. RIP
this has got to be one of the coolest songs ever!
HOw does this only have 197 views?! This is AMAZING! Joe Meek is God!

I love this AND the Ginny Arnell version. I think this one is a bit more progressive. Great Song!
Why does this song remind me of Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention so much?

Bizarre band.
superior version of this song.
It's funny that's for sure !
I dont make rules
its was definatly produced by meek in the 60's before he went crazy and blew off his head
Sorry. Ginny Arnells original version puts this to shame. He should have sticked to tried and true.
Ill check it out
This version is terrible. I like the other one that was on the radio in the early '60s.
