  • Home Office figures show police made 219 arrests in relation to alleged terrorism-related activity in Britain last year.
This is a 31% rise on the 167 recorded in the previous 12 months to December 2022, making it the highest number of this type of arrest since 2019 when 282 suspects were held.
It means it is the first time in six years - after 467 arrests were made in 2017 - the number of terror suspects detained has increased compared to the previous year.
Although the proportion of arrests of children remained the same as the previous year (19%), the number of arrests for suspects aged 17 and under rose from 32 to 42. This signals the highest number of arrests in this age group since records began in September 2001.
Former Met Police detective Peter Bleksley joins TalkTV to discuss these “deeply concerning” figures and more.

My son saved for three years for his first car and we added money to buy a brand new Corsa at a giveaway price (had to travel to London but it was worth it). The very next day, he drove his one day old car to work but later rushed home to show me that the rear quarter was smashed in. The Hotel had HD quality CCTV which showed a guest checking out and the external cameras recorded him getting into his large SUV and attempting to reverse out of a tight space. Three attempts later he accelerated back at speed knocking my sons car into the next bay.
The police took the recording and although they had his credit card details, HD photo and the fact there was only 20 vehicles matching his registered in the UK, they sent a letter stating no further action would be taken. I wrote to the Chief Inspector and the PCC, both declined to get involved. I loath what the Police have become....

Done and dusted. This is you; this is your card, you are still in possession of your card this is a video of you using it etc. etc.
Policing is a f*cking joke because of the time wasted on ‘non-incident crimes’. Totally absurd.

When saying ‘policing by consent’, the Home Secretary was referring to a long standing philosophy of British policing, known as the Robert Peel’s 9 Principles of Policing. However, there is no evidence of any link to Robert Peel and it was likely devised by the first Commissioners of Police of the Metropolis (Charles Rowan and Richard Mayne). The principles which were set out in the ‘General Instructions’ that were issued to every new police officer from 1829 were:
1). To prevent crime and disorder, as an alternative to their repression by military force and severity of legal punishment.
2). To recognise always that the power of the police to fulfill their functions and duties is dependent on public approval of their existence, actions and behaviour and on their ability to secure and maintain public respect.
3). To recognise always that to secure and maintain the respect and approval of the public means also the securing of the willing co-operation of the public in the task of securing observance of laws.
4). To recognise always that the extent to which the co-operation of the public can be secured diminishes proportionately the necessity of the use of physical force and compulsion for achieving police objectives.
5). To seek and preserve public favour, not by pandering to public opinion; but by constantly demonstrating absolutely impartial service to law, in complete independence of policy, and without regard to the justice or injustice of the substance of individual laws, by ready offering of individual service and friendship to all members of the public without regard to their wealth or social standing, by ready exercise of courtesy and friendly good humour; and by ready offering of individual sacrifice in protecting and preserving life.
6). To use physical force only when the exercise of persuasion, advice and warning is found to be insufficient to obtain public co-operation to an extent necessary to secure observance of law or to restore order, and to use only the minimum degree of physical force which is necessary on any particular occasion for achieving a police objective.
7). To maintain at all times a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.
8). To recognise always the need for strict adherence to police-executive functions, and to refrain from even seeming to usurp the powers of the judiciary of avenging individuals or the State, and of authoritatively judging guilt and punishing the guilty.
9). To recognise always that the test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder, and not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with them.
Essentially, as explained by the notable police historian Charles Reith in his ‘New Study of Police History ‘in 1956, it was a philosophy of policing ‘unique in history and throughout the world because it derived not from fear but almost exclusively from public co-operation with the police, induced by them designedly by behaviour which secures and maintains for them the approval, respect and affection of the public’.
It should be noted that it refers to the power of the police coming from the common consent of the public, as opposed to the power of the state. It does not mean the consent of an individual. No individual can chose to withdraw his or her consent from the police, or from a law.
In summary, "Policing by Consent" is asking or persuading the public before using force, rather than simply "Enforcing the Law" which is done through the threat or use of force only without first seeking consent.

They (professional standards) went after those of us who were deemed to be dinosaurs, but who the public considered to be ‘proper coppers’, law-abiding and criminals alike. Don’t tell me this isn’t by design. I now despise the police with every fibre of my being! They aren’t the organisation I joined 30 years ago. And it’s not for the better. Yes, there were things that went on in the 90s that weren’t right, but now they do nothing right!!! Basically the police have become political pawns, and if you don’t agree with the direction this country is heading, you are targeted…

They had time for you and were collecting information about the area and people. Look at the poor person who was arrested for holding a placard about terrorist, how many police were involved? Watch lots of cop programs on tv and noticed if one of their own is in danger, they all assisted, yet the public doesn’t matter. A lot of times you see several police arresting 1 person or a fleet of cars for 1 car. They are bias unfortunately and British 🇬🇧 people come second. Perhaps crowd control should be done by the army ( police will complain not getting enough overtime for doing nothing).

I had several bruises on my chest and stomach . A very helpful cop , no wonder people call them pigs 😤

I live in N Wales, we still have village stations and the officers still undertake community policing. Obviously, like everywhere else we need more officers, but if people don't apply, how can they recruit? Up here they also have to do a degree on top of all the other training. If they don't pass the degree, they don't have a job
Ordinary officers have to do what they're told from the higher ups who aren't concerned with real policing, they're political positions more concerned with ticking boxes and following which ever agenda is the flavour of the month. What are the officers supposed to do? Its illegal for them to strike.
As for prosecutions for se* crimes, that's the crown prosecution service and the fact that our prisons are full, only the very worst are being sent down at the moment and many are being released on tag. That's beyond the police's control. You'd be simple if you believed they'd want to see scumbags walking free.
There's so much that goes on that we never hear about, and these brave men and women have to deal with them on a daily basis. The worst things you could possibly imagine, and yet you bleat about push bikes and phones. I live in the country, but even I know not to walk around with your phone or money out when you go into town. It's basic common sense.

Policing was destroyed by Theresa May when she was Home Secretary. It was that woman who boasted that she was not afraid to walk the streets at night because it was safe. It was only safe for her because she had an armed police protection officer with her.
She then cut police spending so the only way chief officers were able to make the savings was to retire all officers who had enough service to retire. In doing this all the experienced officers particularly experienced detectives were lost to the force.
These officers were replaced by graduate entries with no life experience which is why the word force has gone from the police. The current crop from top to bottom are inept.

They always seem to turn up mob handed for silly non-crime hate incidents, but when its someone who has actually been robbed or mugged, they havent got the manpower/time/inclination etc etc etc. Useless bobbleheads!

A few years ago I saw two young black guys seriously eyeing up my bike as I was locking it to a bike-rack outside a London Aldi supermarket. Once inside the store, I saw the same two guys with one of them stealing wine by openly shoving bottles down his baggy trousers. The security guard - also black - noticed that I also saw them stealing, so he then decided to walk up to them, and politely asked the thief to put the wine back. He didn't and both guys simply walked out with the security guard doing nothing, he didn't even mention it to a staff member! Due to their interaction, I had a feeling they all knew each other. Long story short, after I'd finished my shopping I went back outside and my bike had gone!
I reported it to the Police telling them that I have a good idea who stole my bike, and that in addition to a street CCTV outside pointing in Aldi's direction, Aldi's internal security camera footage would also have crystal clear footage of them both, not only stealing wine but most probably my bike as well. The Police officer gave me a case number and said he will call me back the next day.
A week elapsed with zero contact from the Police, so I called THEM. I was told to talk with the shop owners opposite Aldi, to find out if any of their security cameras could have captured the theft. So even though I found him telling me that bloody strange, the next day I did just that, and then called the Police back with the information. The Police officer then asked me who does the street CCTV camera belong to. I said I have no idea, it's a camera mounted high up on a very tall pole. He said that "I" should call the council to find out who owns it and call them back with the details. *WTF?* Anyway, did exactly as he said and after being bounced around numerous council departments, I eventually discovered who owns the camera. Yeah, surprise, surprise, it belonged to the council and I even obtained the camera number.
I then called the Police back with the details, informing them that I had also spoken with Aldi's manager and he confirmed that one of their internal security camera's would have recorded the bike theft outside through their large window, but that the footage will be deleted in a week (they delete footage every 30 days). The Police officer said that he will send officers to Aldi to view the footage.
Meanwhile, I placed an advert in Gumtree with my phone number and a picture of my stolen bike asking anyone local to contact me should they see it. I received a text message within an hour, saying _"I know who has your bike. Transfer £100 to my account, text me back when you've done that and I'll provide full info."_ The text included the person's phone number, his bank account number and sort code. Clearly a scammer! So I texted him back saying _"Great, but I need a few days to get the money"_ hoping to stall, so the cops had enough time to nab him, or at least investigate.
When another 5 days was almost up I called the Police, as AGAIN, I hadn't heard anything from them but assumed they had already viewed Aldi's footage. The Police officer said that they hadn't viewed the footage yet, so I told him that they needed to hurry as it will be deleted in two days!!! I also told him about the scammer texting me, that I had his phone number and text with his banking details in my phone, and that he probably scams a lot of people this way.
Anyhow... the final response I got from the Police after "I" was told to call them the following day, was short and sweet; _"We've decided to close your bike theft case, and as for the person texting you, there's nothing we can do about that"_ !!!!!!! 😳
So... they got "ME" do do ALL of "THEIR" work, and then did F-all with the solid information I had spent many days gathering. They didn't bother to look at Aldi's footage as promised (I know because I later checked with the manager)... and they weren't even interested in apprehending an obvious money scammer!
You really couldn't make this sh!t up!!!
The Police today have become an absolute waste of space!!! 😡They should be renamed: The Passive Force, although a more appropriate term should probably be applied.
P.S. After I saw that my bike had been stolen, I went back into Aldi's and briefly spoke with one of their cashiers. He told me that a couple of weeks prior, he had his £2,000 electric bike stolen (in the same area), form his completely walled-in back garden, not visible from the street. He said that the thieves had to lift and carry the heavy bike over a 6 foot wall, and then through several neighbour's gardens, and over fences, so it was probably an organised gang who stole-to-order. He reported the theft and said that the police did nothing! Little did I know, that I was about to experience the same treatment!

I have given up on the Police since the Sarah Everard case. I have told my daughter who lives in London not to trust the Police.

We need pro-self-defense laws and pro-vigilante laws to protect ourselves and the wider community.
