- Not from Chicago, but of historical interest anyway, is the opening of an edition of Morningwatch on WNGE (now WKRN) Channel 2 in Nashville, TN.
The hosts are Valerie Lindell (who sadly passed away in 2003) and Tom Smith, and briefly seen at the start of a news update (before channel surfing commences) is Roseanne Colletti who would go on within a few short years of this aircheck to become a fixture of New York City television, first with WCBS Channel 2 and then WNBC Channel 4.
Includes:
Station ID slide (voiceover by ?? - unknown, but sounds very similar, albeit with a regional accent, to longtime CBS New York and WCBS staff announcer Dave Campbell)
Morningwatch open (with some seriously funky music - anyone know who that is?) accompanying various street scenes of people walking
As a vocal group accompanied by piano continues to sing seemingly in error, Tom opens with a preview of the day's topics: the difficulty of losing a child, J.J. from L.A., news and weather, at which point music stops
Valerie, after commenting on the ruckus heard behind them, previews more topics to be covered for this edition: a visit from Josh Graves, Dick Russell demonstration on removing upholstery stains, and Gerry House with an "In-House" review; after identifying themselves (with Tom "not knowing" who he is at that point), she also previews an upcoming story about credit cards and "pay-as-you-go" plans, before introducing Roseanne's news update
After Roseanne appears, we switch to brief snippet of network feed (with 5 kHz telco audio) of about 1 second of Kellogg's Special K commercial before tape cuts out
This aired on local Nashville TV on Tuesday, August 9th 1977.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

WSIX TV 8 became WNGE 2 now WKRN 2...GREAT find!!!
"This morning we'll be discussing the difficulty of losing a child." * laughter *
Some unfortunate timing there.
Agree. I think, though, she was laughing at the playing of Church choir music, but just laughed when he said that.
@@trevorbarnhill3399 Yeah, something happening at the studio.
WNGE stood for "Nashville's GE"; General Electric (which was later the parent company of NBC) sold the station to Knight-Ridder, of which the current callsign (WKRN) stands for. TheOpensGuy did a compilation video of WKRN news opens in 2021.
The GE in the call letters references then-owner General Electric. (channel 2 in Nashville is now WKRN-TV, owned by Nexstar, and remains an ABC station.)
WKRN means Knight-Ridder Nashville when the station was once owned by Knight-Ridder then sold to Young Broadcasting.
heard the theme song from this show and I thought for a second this was an episode of "Maude..."
To me, it sounded more like something played in the background of a 1970s porno flick.
Tom Smith went by Tom Daniels and anchored the news at WJKS (now WCWJ) in Jacksonville from 1983-1985. Last I heard he was the main anchor at WTOK in Meridian, MS.
Please, please tell me you have more Nashville area content?
Yes they do: ruclips.net/video/hWlkW2j5voY/видео.html
@@astrofist now that one i was aware of already, thanks anyway! ;)
@@ojc61579 oh well, I tried. :)
May've said this elsewhere, but the ID V/O sounds like a relative of longtime CBS announcer Dave Campbell. (Wait a minute, that was in the description . . . )
Does anyone remember the name of the nightly news weatherman on ch 2 back in '77 ?
I believe that's The Lennon Sisters in the Kellogg's commercial.
This was exactly one week before Elvis died.
Could we please stop using the term "passed away" and use the traditional term "died" for a change?!? God, I hate the term "passed away" so much! So damn annoying! 😤😤😤😤😤
It's a euphemism, a term meant to soften the blunt impact of the word "died." It's a legacy of when our culture was more polite and less graphic than is the case now.
