It comes from Bryghia, which was the original name. The Vikings landed on the banks of the river Reie here and called it a bryghia, which means 'landing stage' in Norse. So it's basically a Viking city. Thanks for the video, it gives our city more exposure then pictures ever could and will hopefully draw more tourists here. We live on tourism and we still aren't back up to pre-Covid levels of visitors.
Thank you so much for watching 😀 Ah amazing! We appreciate the knowledge on Bruges. It was such a fantastic place to visit. We'd love to return. x
Thanks for the lovely vlogs Efteling, I really enjoy it. 👍
We’re so glad you enjoyed them. Thank you for watching 😊 x
Sometimes I forget how beautiful my hometown Bruges is. If you come back again, a tour with the horses is a nice experience. And never leave without eating a waffle. 😉
We’ll have to remember that for next time. Yes! We made sure we had a waffle. It was delicious. Thank you for watching 😊 x
A tour with horses is far to expensive for what it is, you know this living there, so why recommend it?
Sorry guys, I've only just got around to watching this vlog.
Bruges looked wonderful, definitely one for the list and a great way to end another fantastic vlog series.
Thank you so much for watching. Bruges was such a great place to visit. We'd love to see the winter markets one year. x
You're such a nice couple.
I've watch the video's from your stay at the Efteling and Brugge.
I loved every single minute of it!
😉🤩
Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment 😊 we’re so happy you enjoyed the vlogs. X
Loved this! Must visit… thank you tour guide Martin!
Thank you for watching 😊 x
Such a lovely way to end your trip, was good to see Bruges again, from your late visit ❤ Glad you both had such a wonderful trip away x
Thank you for watching 😊 We always appreciate your support Lucina. X
Thank you for sharing your adventures.
Thank you so much for watching 😊 x
Absolutely loved this series :)
Thank you so much for watching 😊 means a lot to us ❤️ x
Bruges looks amazing, loved this series and the mix of theme park and general travel. Hope you get to do more soon!
We’re so happy to hear that enjoyed the series. It was a wonderful trip. Thank you for joining us for it. ❤️ x
What a beautiful city, it reminds me of York in parts. I didn’t realise just how close it was to Le Shuttle either - a (Christmas) weekend break is definitely doable. It’s been a wonderful vlog series, thank you so much for letting me tag along ❤
Can definitely see the York comparison. Really want to visit at Christmas to see the Bruges Christmas market. Thank you for watching 😊 x
What an amazing trip! I went to Brugge last year and fell in love with it 😍 After seeing your vlogs about Efteling my husband and I really want to go there! knowing that it's close to Brugge is also a plus because it would be great to come back too ❤
Would highly recommend doing Efteling and visiting Bruges on the way back. It breaks up the journey back to the le shuttle if using a car. We only have hour and a half to go once we were in Bruges. Thank you for watching 😊 x
Looks like you had a fantastic trip! Thanks as always for sharing your trip/life with us. I was in Bruges in 1985 and it looks like nothing has changed other than there are more people. We took the boat tour just like you as well as climbing up the tower stairs to get the fabulous view. You brought back so many memories for me, Thank You! Looking forward to your next adventure!!!
Thank you so much for watching 😊 It’s a lovely place. So glad we could bring back some memories. X
The reason nothing changes is because we are a UNESCO World Heritage City so those living in the center can't change anything about their houses. Not even the color of the window frames. Aslong as you leave the front of the house untouched, you can however rip everything away and build a new dwelling behind said facade. 😁
I'm from Bruges, so glad you enjoyed your trip!
We love Bruges so much. Thank you for watching 😊 x
Not only do I now want to go to Efteling but I also now want to go to Bruge! 😁
If you ever fancy coming to York to the visit the only Käthe Wolfhart in the UK my daughter works there and I’m sure she would love to show you around ☺️
We love York! Martyn worked there back in the day at the dungeons. We’d love to return to York in the future. Bruges is so nice, would highly recommend. Thank you for watching 😊 x
nice video about bruges cheers and enjoy the brugse crazy beer
Thank you for watching 😊❤️ x
I've been to Bruges in 2015 I think, with the worst broken heart I've ever had to deal with, just to get out and do some healing. Your vlog really reminded me of that vacation and how much I liked the city. Thanks, I have really fond memories and it seems like nothing has changed there!
It had a lovely atmosphere to it. It can really get inside your soul I feel. Was lovely to visit. Glad we could bring back some good memories. Thank you for watching 😊 x
Bruges looks fantastic. Have a few days on a solo trip down to Carcassonne to see Jose Carreras and then over to Toulouse. Thanks for recommending the Voice map as I hadn't heard of the app and the have walks for both places. Xxx
Voice map was so helpful. It really make us take advantage of the ours we had in Bruges. Thank you for watching 😊 x
@So Helena & Martyn ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤WONDERFUL Lovely Video ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

In 2007/2008 they filmed the movie "In Bruges" in the streets of Bruges. Always crazy to see famous actors like Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes with guns in the street of Bruges. Pretty good film and marvelous sound track.
Oh yeah! I remember hearing about that film but have never seen it. I’m going to add it to my watch list. Thank you for watching 😊 x
I had to laugh when Martin said that he thought that going under that bridge was low. Included link is a reasonable nice vid of my home town that includes a good part of the boat ride. Wanna talk low? About 17.00 you will laugh. Oh and we have a BEERMUSEUM. ruclips.net/video/rqcPPTxIUTA/видео.html
Thank you so much for watching and for sharing 😊 x
lovely sightseeing vlog, did you get lost during the app tour?
Thank you for watching! 😊 we didn’t actually. Rare for us 😂 It was really clear with the directions and started automatically when we got to the right bit. X
In Holland people lept sitting up because they use to eat lots of fatty food cooked in animal fat. Therefore they would get heart burn at night when laying down and the acids would burn and damage their esophagus. I think there are lots of reasons..
This is so interesting. Love stuff like this. Thank you for sharing and for watching 😊 x
Is it a myth, that the pigs ate the children in Bruges (see 10:40) ? Because this seem a little bizarre to me ;-) I thought pigs are friendly animals.
I looked it up and apparently not. Pigs were quite different animals in medieval times. History certainly throws up some interesting facts. 😳 thank you for watching x
