  • Summary: I added an on/off switch to control the roaster drum motor; this allows me to preheat (without restarting the roaster) and remove the beans at the end of the roast for immediate cooling (without having to wait through the COOL cycle).
Write-up: I don't show details of adding the switch, but just open the right side panel and you'll see the drum motor wires; put a switch in the one of the two leads; mount the switch externally; I used an on/off switch from an old hot-air popper).
The switch allows me to stop the drum at any time so I can preheat the roaster (even to the 7:30 mark when the after-burner and extra fan kicks on), stop the drum and remove it to put the beans in.
I also use the switch at the end of the roast cycle (to stop the drum from rotating so I can dump the beans and cool them outside the roaster).
    Roast Procedure Used:
    1) 1 lb setting, hit “P5,” the “D,” and keep hitting “+” unit you max out the time on the display (25:30), then hit “START,” then hit P5 again (to turn the power to manual at 100%), and start the timer; let unit sit for a good long pre-heat (note that if “B” temp reaches 331 F, the unit will shut down, so monitor it and open the door, or reduce the power, e.g., P3 for some time, to manage the B temp if it’s an issue).
    2) I give it 5 or so minutes of preheat; note that at 7:30 from turn-on, the amps jump from 8.7 amps to 12.7 amps (indicating after-burner w/fan kicked on); you could wait and put the beans in at this point too.
    3) You’ll need the drum motor switch modification to stop the drum and add the beans (without shutting off the roaster); shut off the drum motor, pull the drum, add the beans, put it back and then hit “D” for 2X drum speed; start a 2nd timer (for roast time)
    4) Starting at 8:15 on display, need to hit “START” to keep roast going (safety cutout); which is about 17:15 from turn-on (display will flash for 30 seconds to let you know)
    5) When ready to pull the beans, stop the drum, pull the chaff tray and drum, and dump the beans into a separate container for cooling and cool the beans (within a couple minutes or so if you can)
    6) Hit “COOL” on the Behmor (if it has not gone into it automatically yet) with the chaff tray and drum out and the door open; let it complete its “COOL” cycle.
