The Cubs did go out and get Juan Soto. They found some public official in the suburbs named Juan Soto and brought him in to sing the 7th inning stretch. He actually managed to be as bad with the singing as Smyly is with pitching.
You guys should have kept Ross, but did us a favor in Milwaukee taking Counsell….he was holding this team back and his message got stale…..
I still think Counsell is a great manager, but the Brewers success was never just one guy. And without a doubt they’ve been a much higher class of an organization than the Cubs since 2018 top to bottom

The Brewers didn't underachieve with Counsel. They will win the same number of games this year as last. They will also exit early from the Playoffs (they have no starting pitching). The difference between the two teams was the bullpen. Counsel struggled with a bad bullpen. He never had a bad bullpen in Milwaukee (KRod, Hader, Williams, etal). These days all a manager really does is manage the bullpen. I'm not a fan of Counsel but no manager could have done better.
@@bthome123 true. And that again falls on Hoyer. Not CC. Had Hoyer gotten a bullpen, the Cubs would, even with 15/25 of those Blown Saves had been converted, they'd have the best record in the NL.

Counsell sucks. The Cubs deserve to lose. The A's are a better team right now with a star player. It's very sad. Just another wasted season.
It's not Counsell, it's Ricketts and Hoyer. Counsell can only use the talent Hoyer provides him.
The bullpen is a prime example. Today's loss...the pen accounted to four A's runs.

Great take Kap, absolutely. Why should they care about winning as long as their packing the ballpark. Anyone who thinks its gonna change is dreaming. Just keep going to the games, buying concessions and merchandise and the organization will be happy. Look who's running this team and you'll understand why. Absolutely pathetic management from top down. Believe that. Counsell's contract should be voided he is the biggest waste of money in MLB history, he couldnt manage a little league team.

Totally the result of Tom Ricketts refusal to hold the front office accountable for the team's performance.
A lot of people thought the reason the Brewers consistently outperformed how they looked on paper was Craig Counsell. Now we know that's not the case. Wish I knew their secret.
They keep bringing talent up from their farm system. It's really that simple. They don't spend crazy money on free agents

The Cubs have a serious issue playing at home. It should be a home field advantage, but somehow it's not. Research should be done to help understand why this trend has continued throughout the season.
In my opinion, once the weather warmed up in the city, the Cubs began to play horribly at home😢

Counsell is in love with Smyly and Wisdom; he keeps using both over and over again. They are taking playing time away from young players you need to develop. Counsell is the most overrated manager in baseball, Hoyer cant win without Theo, and Hawkins seems arrogant for someone who hasn't accomplished anything in his career.

The whole idea of spending money is to spend it wisely. Maybe the Cubs need to take a page out of smaller market teams, develop players a certain way and still are competitive.

Cubs' payroll is double the Brewers, so it's not like the Cubs are not spending money, it's just that they are not spending money on the right players. I think they try hard and are earnest and want to win, and they try, but bottom line they are not that good talent wise or they are playing well below their expectations.
The thing is I don't see Jed being fired. The owner is probably good with this. The stadium stays packed and they make money hand over fist. Why upset that?

I think it’s time for all of us to understand the “next great Cubs team” won’t be here until after Ricketts sells the team. We need to stop overhyping our teams in Chicago only to watch all of them lose to Wisconsin teams. The owners don’t care and are complacent in mediocrity because the fans show up no matter what except for Sox fans.
I’m going to try to not follow the Cubs next year. Hopefully they surprise us but I already know it’ll be more of this year’s team

Went to the game yesterday disappointing they couldn’t get more offense probably my last game of the season.

Two ways to build a team, either develop it or buy it, Cubs have proven over the last 4 years they can't develop one and they are unwilling to spend enough to buy it. They are 6th in attendance and just lost the division to a team that's 15th in attendance.

The must be a blood bath in the front office early November. Hoyer and Hackett are an embarrassment in MLB and must be fired. Ricketts must take responsibility for this garbage and bring in major market executives, steal them from winning franchises. I will not wait for a winning team again, they are garbage. And, if I hear one more time from Ricketts that they need more revenue, I’m going to scream. They are top 3 in all of MLB.
Cubs get locked into long-term contracts on players who aren't that good. Then the AAA players are blocked by these underperforming players. Teams like the Brewers avoid those huge contracts which allows them to more easily call up minor leaguers and send them back down in they don't perform. Then they call up a different player and see how he works out. There is little movement on the Cubs between the minors and majors because of those bad contracts. IMO
Still a couple dummies in the comments excusing Counsell but most of you have finally realized that the Brewers underperformed every year under Counsell and the Cubs got BAMBOOZLED into taking him off if the Brewers hands. Stern was his only champion and when Stern left for the Mets the rest of the organization was trying to figure out how to get rid of Counsell without creating a huge PR nightmare for the average Brewer fan that also thought Counsell was good for some reason. Brewers didn’t want him back at his old salary, let alone with a raise, but Cubs fixed that for the Brewers! Cubs fans have a little more excuse than Brewers fans for not knowing how awful Counsell is because they didn’t see as many games he managed as Brewers fans did. I guess Brewers fans made up for it by drinking significantly Miller Lite and looking a Counsell like a drunk looks at the ugly girl at the bar around bar time. I’m a Brewers and Packers fan, and I love it when the Packers and Brewers win. But, I’d still like Chicago teams to beat everyone else. There's just no justification whatsoever. Let me guess--he was to face a lefty? Get real. Smyly hangs knuckle curves every 15 or 16 pitches.
