Loved the gardens,especially the fruit orchard with the long lush grass around the trees ,just like the natural lush meadow look. Saw the Limonium plant ,love Limonium Perezii and Limonium Peregrinum,both do very well under extremely hot,cold,wet and dry conditions and both look lush and beautiful.
Lovely , varied walk...with a little bit of everything!! Loved the mine ruins and the 'hunt the fireplace ' game!!! Pity the ferry wasn't running.... another time maybe! 😊❤👍

That seemed like a L-O-N-G walk this time! Such beautiful quiet scenery with a history lesson again. The one thing I love about Cornwall is that most of your churches are usually open. They are mainly closed here because of the inevitable vandalism. It's always such a nice surprise to find one open when we go away. Some of them in Cornwall are just so beautiful with their Holy Wells. Peace & tranquillity. Can't beat it! J x
Yes, a long walk, about 6 miles! I simply loved the fire place in the porch, we tried to see a flue or chimney but its no longer there so obviously not used nowadays! The church had water and snacks inside for a donation, which was very welcome at that point in the walk, Sarah :)
Those beautiful granite buildings of Cornwall's mining heritage were so well built...to last, and are so evocative of a whole era. Really lovely walk and video!
What an absolutely fabulous walk. We loved the mix of woodland, creekside and beautiful open countryside. A pity the ferry was not running but doing some of the the walk in reverse makes it completely different. Chuffed... Andrew... you are getting worse! Thank you another enjoyable video.

Lovely! A bit of everything, woodland, riverwalk, open fields, ruins, etc. And hearing nothing but birdsong at times was quite nice, too. Thanks for another lovely video.
The tide was too low for the ferry. Gunnislake brick works was demolished by my grandfather who used the granite to build Lopwell dam on the river Tavy in Devon, my grandfather has a sense of humour, the dated stone from the brick works was placed on the dam leaving many to think it was built in the 1800's...not 1953. He sold the bricks from the works to a local Gunnislake man who built a house from them which still stands today. Since moving from West Cornwall (for the mining) 5 generations of my family, including me, have been married in St Andrews.
At 17:58 you are right outside of my house, I'm in that house next to the church. A few years ago we had an archaeological dig in part of the cemetery where they found remains of a Roman Fort. Pretty interesting stuff. Also when you were on the riverbank walk you guessed that the big green fields were for growing fruit. Well it was mainly strawberries and flowers and they were grown in the valley hillsides near Danescombe as the steep sides were perfectly angled towards the sun. Nice seeing good footage of my home village, we have a lot of history here.

I am missing my fur girls something terrible ,thank goodness for FaceTime lol . On to Florida tomorrow to meet up with some Family for a beach holiday ,which my two youngest are super excited about, then back home to Ohio finally! Our summer has really kicked into gear with lovely blue skies and warm temperatures of about 24 degrees C. It was a longer walk, about 6 miles. I think we were a little disappointed that the ferry is no longer running as it would have been an ideal route back to the car park! Sarah :)
Another splendid video Sarah and Andrew. A relaxing walk to 2 beautiful places once again. Your videos keep on giving and this was packed with information and lovely scenery. Yes, I enjoyed it very much.....although it did seem quite a long walk, in a short walk book!. 10/10 guys

Our working rotas have not been kind to us in the last few weeks and we have struggled to get a day together. We are planning a return to Port Isaac to take a look at Series 3 and the filming locations used, similar to ones we have made before - really excited about filming this! Sarah :)

You were close to Danescombe reputed to have obtained its name from the Vikings who landed here. Extract from an article on Hingston Down "Local folklore tells the tale of how the Vikings landed at Danescombe which is the origin of the name that area was later given. From here they marched up through the wooded Danescombe valley and across heather and gorse common-land arriving at its highest point to aid the Celts in their battle with the Saxons. I tried to guess what the terrain would have looked like to those Vikings in the year A.D 838 when there were no roads and no permanent structures in this part of Britain, just a few thatched mud huts and of course the huge Roman Fort over to their east as they left the river behind them and headed uphill from Danescombe. But as it was then 200 years since the Romans had left Britain, what condition would that fort have been in by this time"
We have walked up through the Danescombe Valley, very serene, peaceful and beautiful. It features in our Christmas Cotehele walk video, loads of fantastic moss on the tree trunks. We were not sure how to pronounce it, and even when we asked a local, still had no joy! So forgive us if we are saying it wrong!! Sarah :)
@@CornishWalkingTrails I must look at the Christmas Video. Regarding the name,I woulds say it as Danes Combe as the Danes were vikings. Prenounciation may well have changed over the years of course. I have drawn attention to your videos to a publisher who is well versed in media and states the videos are very well produced.

Sadly whilst you are right that the valley is called Danescombe ( pronounced locally Danes cum) It has nothing to do with the battle of Hingston Down. It's more likely to have received it's name from the 'Viking' raid on Tavistock and Lydford in 997AD. The battle of Hingston Down is much more likely to have taken place at the Hingston Down near modern day Moretonhamstead much nearer the border at the time (River Parrett).
This is not the best aspect of RUclips - the conversation threads are difficult to follow, even from this end. I think there are three small dots to the right of the text, try that - one may say reply! Sarah :)
