- Here's a more accurate depiction of Fantasia's vocal range, which is 2 octaves, 5 notes and 1 semitone.
*PLEASE NOTE* Most (actually all) of Fantasia's high notes are BELTED which means she can probably go higher if she actually used her head/falsetto voice.
The Lady Marmalade note is just killer. Gives me chills.
For years I've been saying she's a Soprano, and this just proves it. Her low notes were supported but not strong, which shows she's definitely not a Mezzo of any kind. But her belts started from G4-A5, that's pretty damn broad, A mezzo would switch to head voice from around F5 and up. Which means no trained mezzo would dare belt a A5, because they would strain. Fantasia belted that A5 without voice cracking or strain. The girl is a Underrated Soprano, the fact that she went up to an A5 via belts. And still hasn't shown off her head voice yet??? I'm pretty sure if she did she would easily peak at C6 or even D6 in head voice. Finally, based on the power in her belts from E5- and up, she's more of a "Dramatic Soprano" in my opinion. She has more "meat" to her belts than say a Lyric Soprano like Ashanti. She oddly sounds like Patti Labelle, who btw also is a Dramatic Soprano according to music critics. Anywho, great video, just wished Tasia would explore her head voice. That would extend her range greatly .

Her voice is nowhere near dramatic. Very bright and light voice. And definitely a soprano.
She’s a soprano definitely not a dramatic soprano. Fantasia’s voice isn’t dark or metallic enough to be a Dramatic Soprano and her chest notes don’t have the power of a Dramatic. She’s definitely a Soprano and a damn good one. Her voice is so unique and not common. She’s truly a natural talent.

@Reggie MItchell A soprano with a well developed chest voice and great dynamic ability. Those 2 things are what fools people imo. There’s a certain weight/color that Spintos have that Whitney never had. Jennifer Hudson, Keke Wyatt and Tanya Blount are actual Spintos.

@BlackLightning20101 Back in her hay day, Mariah had amazing control, texture, and tone to her voice. Almost all of her notes associated with her 5 octave range were perfectly in tune with the sound of Piano keys. So this tells you, that Mariah didn't just scream random notes like many artist do today. Her sound was MUSICALLY correct. So would I say she is a master of her studio craft? 100% yes. Especially between 1990-2001.

Great Video! Thanks, Love Me Sum Tasia! She kills in whatever range. She is just a vocal beast. I love a her sanger with versatility. She is one of the best for this generation who kills on riffs, runs, squalls, ablibs...you name it. She can most definitely do it. Do you have one with Ledisi? She is another great vocalist in my opinion.

the last note is actually to be denoted as Bb5 because there is only Ab or A flat and then A natural also for the BITTERSWEET note Db is to be denoted C sharp, C, A & B are diatonic meaning they can only be properly sung FLAT or NATURAL, in the case of C it can be sung SHARP so techically D is NOT flat it is either C sharp or D natural so it is better if correct that just to let u know.
Fun Factoid: A flat is only a 1/100th fraction high in pitch than G sharp so they virtually sound da same!

Range ain't got shit to do with it the technique and skill of a vocalist. Whitney Houston has a 3 octave range and Mariah Carey has a 5 octave range and I can honestly say I'd listen to "I'll always love you" back in the day before I listened to "Emotions" by Mariah back in the day. It all depends on vocal stamina, stage presence, and the voice3d ablility to move people emotionally.. FANTASIA GOT IT!
Her voice is very difficult to classify. We're not sure if she's actually a mezzo soprano or a soprano. She can't go too high above a B5 and screams her highest notes. Sometimes not as bright as most average sopranos and her low notes may be supported but you can clearly see she's not truly comfortable down there like a true mezzo. She must be something in between. Either a falcon soprano or a type of soubrette.
Sopranos usually have bigger voices than Mezzos in terms of volume output. I don't know what she is
She’s a light lyric soprano. I think what confuses peoooe is the distortion plus the huskiness she has in her voice similar to how pink or dorinda Clark coles voices are set. But you can tell her voice is set pretty high jus by the way she speaks or jus from her singing now. She had a procedure done on her voice because she had damaged vocal chords and it refined the rasp she had in her voice and her voice is a lot clearer and u can really hear how light her voice is.
I cannot believe that with these high notes poorly mixed, she can sing good live.

@@mugrad25 no sir not at all. Her belts are very solid and the only reason that a person with an ear can say they are screechy is because the amount of rasp her voice. If u take the rasp away she would sound a lot clearer. She’s a regular light lyric soprano. Her voice isn’t dark and regular lyric mezzo soprano is somebody like Erica Campbell. Her voice has no mezzo qualities. She stays in the rafters effortlessly. Even her natural speakin voice is light and high pitched

@@mugrad25 Michelle is a lyric soprano. Fantasia is a light lyric. Fantasia voice is softer and more agile than Michelle. Similar to Kierra sheard another light lyric soprano.

not a music expert..but theyre the same thing..think its terminology. Minor Key= Bb5 and Major Key=A#5.
They are the same note but it all Depends on what key you are in
