- How To Make Delicious SCONES At Home | Dessert People
One of the great things about baking is discovering that you can make a pastry at home that tastes better than one from a cafe. On this episode of Dessert People, pastry chef Natasha Pickowicz shows Claire how to do just that - and in the process, convinces her that a proper scone can be tender, light, flavorful, and not at all dry. Check out the episode for all the secrets to making a scone so good that it will change the mind of scone skeptics everywhere.

Natasha is such wonderful and generous teacher! This recipe is a game changer for any one making Scones at home. Thanks for watching!
So glad you both had a amazing time together 😊❤️
Please more Natasha!
Absolutely love this format! I love watching you nerd ( in the best way possible!) out with others! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
P.S. I have 2 boys that match Natasha’s kitty almost identically lol. Mine are Cole and Amis, which is French for friends 🥰🥰🥰
Poppy Seed Cake recipe please
Tip: Always split the zucchini in two lengthwise and remove the seeds. That's where most of the moisture is and it can be a bit bitter and odd-tasting. Also, your potato ricer is an excellent way to remove water from zucchini, spinach, etc. Love your channel!!
Hahah a reoccurring segment on Dessert People where the guests try to find space in Claire's fridge would be hilarious
and where they record a time and have a leaderboard
That could be a game show in itself.
Yes! Why Claire wasn’t the one trying to find a place in her fridge, I do not know.
@@Zusie Because sometimes you want to watch other people navigate your labyrinth.
I wanna see the super cut of guest chaos
The little bonding moment over the left handedness was adorable
Omg I was just about to comment this
so….to be a true dessert person do i also need a cat? seems like all the best dessert people have them!
It is an unspoken rule actually
Cats make everything better.
I have cats - even have a Felix lookalike, so I should be golden!
I mean cats are the best
I’m totally there. Bonus for also being a lefty.
What I love about this series and about Claire, is that we see just how much of a good communicator and good cook she is - people don't always hit the mark when having a guest on in terms of stepping back and letting them teach, but Claire always seems to give people the space to teach and and it really comes across on screen. There is no ego to it, and it helps me as the viewer feel so much more like I'm involved. Amazing work team - more more more!!
Agreed. Like we know how proficient she is in many of these skills, but she’s learning like a beginner which helps us and which is what I think a master would do.
She’s really humble and keen to learn new skills ! I really appreciate this !! She’s a real gem !!
In my opinion, as a passionate, amateur baker, there is no room in a kitchen for ego if you truly care about making really good things and learning from others' expertise.
@@TheSwauzz Exactly !!
I think Claire with anyone else in the kitchen is a recipe for chaos, and that's the best.
This is the only cooking show that really encapsulates the feeling of having someone in your kitchen.
@@vigilantcosmicpenguin8721 and that's why my wife and I can't cook at the same time 😂
They're such "baker" personalities. Very analytical, direct and calculated. It's so great 😂
I want a TV show with these two traveling the globe baking wonderful things. And solving crimes.
Can the animated beginning show then riding to places on brooms. Brooms with rolling pins and measuring cups hanging from them.
Yes. Simply- YES.
She needs a channel for sure!!
AND Solving Crimes!
Quite simple: i)have very little knowledge; ii)share your limited knowledge using loads of upspeak so no one will believe you; iii) have previously shagged a friend who happens to also be a producer at the show you want to engage. 🤨😐😁
what I love is the small kitchen (real) full refrigerator (real) packed freezer (real again) and bumping into another helper in the kitchen. Claire keep it real. It makes me happy.
I love that she gets to see how all of these recipes feel to make in a space similar to those who would be making them at home! It keeps it doable for people like me
The scone crumb hitting Claire's mic at 17:52 made my day for some reason.
Love this show!
As if Claire wasn’t knowledgeable enough, she manages to have guests that even more knowledgeable on a specific topic ❤️
Loved Natasha’s expertise on scone making! I will definitely be adopting most of these techniques in my scone making ❤️
100% agree, salad tong fingers for life!
I have a girls cottage weekend coming up and I feel that Claire will be attending in spirit as I am the baker and will be bringing her bagels, these scones, and a dessert from the book. Thank you Claire for making me look so good!!
wow Natasha is such a good teacher, her explanations were so clear
Did you see the smile on that cat’s face? He is living his best life.
Claire, you’re amazing!!! I wish Natasha directed her comments more towards the camera (us) rather than Claire (a professional who obviously knows how to use a bench scraper, where to place the hot pan of scones, when to brush buttermilk on the scones lol). I admire Claire so much and love how she can make anyone feel like they can bake. She’s so humble and a great teacher!
Yeah I honestly felt she was a bit bitchy
I feel like it's understood that Claire is the stand in for the viewer, she's having someone come on to teach a recipe that she isn't an expert in so it makes sense for her to be guided throughout the video (and I'm sure there are a lot of variances in how different professionals work so it might seem obvious like when to brush the buttermilk but if you're sharing the recipe then you still provide that information to which I'm sure Natasha also has experience in since she has managed pastry teams)
i think natasha isn’t used to being on camera like claire is, so it’s easier to direct her instructions at claire than an unseen audience.
This episode honestly flew by. Can't wait to try this on the weekend!
that kitchen aid turning on when your hand was in there is my biggest fear
Flashbacks to when my home ec teacher told us that if that happened our arms would get twisted and broken 😩
Claire: grabs a ziplock bag with leftover pastry dough “This... I will”
Natasha (not trying to judge): “eat later?”
Omg the little animations on the mixer were so so cute 😍
I bought Dessert Person last week and i’ve already made 3 recipes! Everything is so delicious and well explained, thank you Claire! ❤️
Please do more of these premiere interactions with viewers in the future, that was awesome! Thanks, Claire!
The fridge Tetris that happens every episode cracks me up.
These videos are my favorite and just seeing her going from literally hating being on camera to having her own RUclips channel with all her own recipes just make me soo happy 💞💞
Natasha has great insight to the stuff she's doing, and is able to share that easily. That's a great combo!
this episode was so relaxing, and natasha was a delight! always grateful i have your videos to look forward to every week ❤️
This was everything for me. I was really shocked to see how little y’all worked the scones. I learned so much, Claire you get me!
I’m so excited for this Dessert People world to grow!! Natasha and Sue have been wonderful, and I can’t wait to see who’s next!!
Wow, this really defined some of the issues I have with scones (and biscuits from the southern US) being either too dry or hockey puck texture. Thank you, Natasha!
I love that Claire has so many Cat people around her 😻😻😻
Cat people are the best !
i love natasha's calming energy. clear instructions and all that. amazing guest.
loved this, and it made me want to see claire have guests come on and teach her things like this in areas where she feels she wants to improve her skills but with a follow up portion where she has a go at replicating the results with a related recipe of choice and reflects on her progress
Love your channel Claire 😊
Amazing tutorial.. you guys have a humble presence, and both make baking feel so much less daunting.. and way more accessible! Thank you!!! I love scones and will be making this recipe for sure.
I followed the recipe for these scones exactly. They came out amazing. My family loved them, including my 4 and 6 year old kids!
This was so interesting! I love scones and learning these tips from Natasha will take mine to a whole new level
I love the ideas of indicators for dryness and hydration rather than fixes amounts of ingredients - I just made a batch and they are so tender and fluffy (and the cheese pools are marvellous!)
10:48 Maybe that's a typo? I think it should say "If substituting the Zucchini with a MORE dry vegetable...".
I love it when a guest comes over. The chaotic energy of the video doubles and I learn more about baking in general. Love it!
For the first time in my life , I'm tempted to bake scones 👀 . Those actually look so good
The way she looks so proud and awkward after throwing that lid away 😆😆
I am so glad that you featured a savory pastry especially a scone. Thank you Natasha for the recipe and helpful tips to watch out for.
Wow Natasha is fantastic! What a wealth of information. Thank you for bringing her on the show, Claire.
Best scones I've ever made!!! I didn't have enough gruyere so I also diced up some parm and pecorino - highly recommend.
Claire is beautifully gracious! Her spirit of learning and collaboration is really inspiring. Also, my drab old Scottish grandma scones are about to get some rehab.
"Salad tong hands" hahaha, oh that's perfect. And it does what it's supposed to nicely. Really conveys the message easily, and that's some good teaching!
Natasha is a good teacher! I'd love to see her on here again with more savory pastries!
Natasha: “I…”
Claire: *“Right!”*
I made this recipe and it was SO GOOD! Definitely enjoyed cheesy taste with a hint of thyme. Thank you!
that cat looks SO HAPPY!!! such love
I could not stop smiling while watching the entirety of this video... Two extremely professional and wholesome individuals baking is so endearing to watch! 12:12 was the most adorable thing ever omg!
I love how kind + welcoming Claire is to other people into her kitchen. She truly listens to the guest instead of trying to prove her intelligence. Mad respect. 🖤
I've never made scones before. I'm making them this weekend - these were literally mouth-watering.
Scones are one of the easiest things to bake! You can’t go wrong!
another warm and friendly episode with a great recipe! ♥️
I love scones, thank you for sharing this with us Claire!
Made these scones this morning and they are AMAZING! Incredible flavors. Smells like a pizza in the oven, all the cheese and herbs. This is the first time I've made scones and they didn't turn out awful. About to delivery a bunch to friends, this was such a fun bake!
Just made a vegan batch of these! Daiya cheddar, earth balance buttery sticks, and tofu buttermilk. SO good. Thank you for such a timely zucchini recipe.
OMG! Learned so much! Thanks for this amazing video!
I am in love!! With all the intros, they are very well done!, and of course the Videos themselves
I love more and more sweet based but turn out savory part of the series. Making it savory means you can eat it as part of your daily meal but also get out that dessert craving 😍 love love love this
Love the energy of both of them! I would love to see them together more. And oh those scones looked sooo good!
LOOKS SOO GOOD
Claire and Natasha - that's the pastry dream team right there!
You need to make these. Easy and totally delicious. Thank you for this video !!!!!!
Claire is such a great teacher, it doesn't surprise me at all that she is also a wonderful student 💜
Again, learned so much, and love!!! More, please.
Honestly, why do these stand mixers not have an auto-shutoff when they're tilted up?
@@hamodalbatal464 Probably not, but it could certainly break some fingers.
because if you have the bowl completely full the paddle can’t get to the bottom so some people lift it up a little to mix the very top. i completely understand though because i’ve splattered cake mixture all over the kitchen one too many times 😭
Made these scones tonight with my 9yr old niece, we bake together all the time so I wasn't that nervous about over mixing but I still handled the dough more than usually would when baking with her. Either way I'm really excited to see how they come out... House smells great!!! Mixed the AP flour with whole grain flour though bc we're experimenting with different types of flour so we can't wait to see how they come out.
Learned so very much from logistics presentation, Thank you! So very excited to try different flavors!
These look amazing. I think scallions would be a great addition to this mixture. Can’t wait to try them. 💗
This episode is delightful! The way Claire threw the dishes in the sink at the beginning was hilarious!
Recently discovered the trick of using a potato ricer to squeeze water from greens! It's amazing
Man..... this video makes me appreciate Claire's voice all that much more.
Claire having a complicated relationship with scones feels so Claire and I love it.
Love the addition of other chefs!
Fabulous episode. Gracious, informative, and fun. Brilliant.
Everything about Natasha is adorable! Her shirt, her cat, her scone obsession!
I'm totally with you Claire, I've always loved scones but.....well they weren't that great. The way Natasha explained everything gave me so much confidence to go ahead and make scones again.
I'm not a huge baker/cook, but I made these and they turned out great. I used fontina instead of gruyere and had good results. Thanks!
There is an amazing cheese scone recipe in the Skyrim cookbook. It's one of my favorite things to bake, so I'm excited to learn more about scones!
LOVE scones! MY FAVORITE 😍
Visual interest is my new favourite descriptor.
Amazing scone technique. Totally going to try it!
Would love more savoury recipes! I’ve made a lot of your recipes and the savoury ones are definitely my favourite!
I had no idea why I was buying Bulgarian style buttermilk yesterday but now I do! Thanks ladies! 😋
They look so good! Never had zucchini scones! Thank you for sharing! 😍
I’m loving seeing Claire interact with others and learn more even though she’s like already an expert
I'm definitely going to adapt this recipe for a carrot based scone! 🐰🤤 thank you both for sharing this with us!🧡
Everyone should like and share this video, it definitely deserves more likes and views
"Coffee shop scones that have been sitting out for a really long time," our my favorite but may also indicate my paltry scone experience.
I need more of Natasha’s energy in my life
I thought it was gonna be Natasha's kitchen and was excited I've never seen RUclips chefs or bloggers collab
Very cool! Now I’m craving these savory scones!
looove Natasha! she is such a natural teacher! :D
Just had one straight from the oven , scrumptious and I'm not a savory scone person but these are airy, light and just perfection! Subbed about a cup of Basil for rosemary, used a touch more salt and some white pepper! Thanks Claire!
I've been craving scones for this whole week without a bakery around that sells it. Claire, I'm so pumped to try these!
I’ve never tried scones before but this had made me really want to.
love these collabs!!! so fun :)
Yum I wanna try this.
You can obviously tell that Natasha is a real one who knows what they're doing and is giving practical and useful guidance and advice. Very lovely teaching moments for me in this vid! It would be great to be taught also how to take a basic or "master" recipe for scones and learn how to add this and that to change it to sweet vs savory and this and that.
I would say this video and the scone recipe are Fabulous.
Oh wow, that ending cat cam. That's one happy and loved kitty!
they're laughs are so beautiful
