Duuuude! I remember you! When I first started my journey back in 2015-16 you were my guide, I would read your blog daily. I forgot all about you until RUclips recommended you just now. Subscribed. And thank you for everything.
Color is more like medium brown. Tan is more yellow. But nice video despite. Brown is very nice color in shoes it brings out the character of the leather. The brown and grey combo is way underrated.
Yeah I mention in the vid somewhere that tan / cognac / light brown can all be vary depending on the brand. But most similar looking shoes across all brands with this color is called tan or cognac
okay, to me these shoes look more medium brown than tan to me. Actual light brown/tan shoes may not look that great with these pants. Honestly, i'm not too sure if you want a whole lot of contrast between shoes and pants. I feel like light-colored pants should go with lighter colored shoes, as well as medium colored pants should go with medium colored shoes, and dark colored pants with darker-colored shoes.
Favorite color to pair with darker brown shoes before watching this vid: Tan--for the contrast. New one to add to my wardrobe after watching this video: Wine or mulberry. I've been letting my shirts do all of the heavy lifting for color. Time to change it up a little. Thanks for the great video! Always look forward to them.
I have a pair of Walnut Brogue Oxfords I've tried out with dark blue jeans. I like the thought of olive with them. I was told to stay away from black, but I might give it a shot. My favorite is navy. Great vid. Thanks!
Oh...man, did this video ever hit home. I'm looking at my closets, which are a disaster after spending hours the other day trying to finally find pants that, and shirt/sweaters,.....that would work with my light tan/ochre Massimo Matteo Oxford Brogue Wingtips. I ordered them from Zappo's in March of 2018 thinking they would be my work horse shoe to go with everything. I read that the tan brogue is a staple shoe of any many's wardrobe and look good on every one. Was looking forward to polishing them and developing a nice patina on the leather. I found that the shoe color is lighter and brighter (warmer) in color than I thought. I ordered it as a shoe for the Spring and Fall in particular, but have yet to wear them out of the house. They are too contrasty with my charcoal wool pants, dark olive chino's, dark blue chino's, and even my dark washed jeans. All those pants I listed work great with my sand colored suede chukka's, but not these tan brogues. God, I was sooo looking forward to putting these brogues against my dark washed jeans in particular....but the shoes just jump out too much. Barron, I noticed that the brown shoes you have in the video are more of a middle brown, middle value, tan, not really a light tan. I see that in photos on Google, that pretty much no one matches light warm tan shoes, with dark jeans. They all seem to be this middle value brown or oxblood. I'm going to have to bring this contrast down by using lighter, grayer, pants that are closer to the shoe color: Beige, light gray, light olive gray, light earth tone colors, and so on. I agree with this video, Baron, but only if the tan/brown shoes are somewhat darker as you have here. That's my two cents. I've tried everything to make these work. Thanks Barron.
I’d love to see a photo. The shoes in the video are a similar color to all the shoes I could find from that brand on Zappos. It might just look darker because of how i edit my videos. As far as your issue, you’re just not used to the contrast, which is understandable. Doesn’t mean it looks bad or is wrong. Might just have to get used to it. But yeah feel free to send me the link to the shoes if you find them
@@EffortlessGentTV Hey Barron, thanks for your response. I didn't mean to drop all that on you. After re-reading my post, I sound like a whiny baby. Aghh, the budget for clothes has been kinda tight this year, so I was really hoping to score a great versatile work horse shoe. I think part of it is that I'm a mid to low contrast looking person, and also I have cooler skin tones. So, it seems more neutral colored clothes and shoes work best on me.....I think? You might be right about not being used to the contrast level. But for now I'll just look to purchase lighter, grayer, and less color contrasted pants, and then work with that. Who knows, maybe over time my eyes or mind will get used to the color pop from below. I love my white sneakers and sand colored chukka's with my dark pants....big time,, but man, this just feels like too much of a color value " pop." Almost as if the shoes take over the entire outfit, and arrive before I do. lol I'll post the link to the shoe, but I need to kind of grow up here and not complain and bitch on youtube...I'm 100% sure that's not what you created this channel for. Thanks Barron for your insight.
No worries, I understand the concern and I’m sure you’re not the only one so I’m glad you mention it here. If you want to lessen the harsh contrast, you’re going about it the right way (wearing slightly lighter shades). It’s all a journey, we’re all figuring stuff out as we try new things and push ourselves outside our comfort zones
You did a really good job on this vid. I particularly like the white paring. I’ve just had a flick through the ace marks site and wondered what exact colour loafer you had on?? Thanks!
Pants #3 Really like that White denim with those tan penny loafers!😀😀 Definitely going to buy both for this coming summer. Also, another favorite preference is Pants #1 light tan shoes & dark denim. Are penny loafers good for long distance walking?
how long is long distance? It probably depends on that, plus the sole of the shoes. If they're rubber, that would probably be more comfortable than a full leather sole.
7:29 My favorite color pants that I like to wear with tan shoes is navy. I *do* have a pair of olive chinos that I’ve been neglecting and this video reminded me of them. Gotta put those chinos back in rotation. Also got a pair of deep brown chinos last week and a pair of Bonobos True Blue chinos on the way. Can’t wait to rock them!

If you say so. This video is about the pants to wear with this color leather, so the advice still works even if you buy a different brand shoe but this same color. But hey thanks for watching
AceMarks is a joke. Why would I pay 200 dollars when I can just buy to boot ny or AE for the same price with superior quality. As for the light grey, you would have to use a lighter brown. A dark brown would look horrible with light grey
To Boot and AE are great but retail at double the price ($395+), though you can find great deals during the twice(ish) yearly sales. No
Very informative as always Barron. Love the fact how you showed pairing it along with telling the audience what you had on top to wear. 👍🏻
Thanks buddy!
..just loved it!
My favorite color with that cognac color shoe (I own two of them) is blue, but with camel fits great as well..., thank you👏👍
Yes it really does look great with camel
Beige would probably go decently--a beige that is closer to cream than tan.
Ethan Baker yeah totally, a light khaki / cream pant would look great with this color leather
What would you suggest with chinos that are brown/dark carmel?
Awesome.. Very helpful video shown with all the color combinations. 👌👌👌

Thanks so much 🙏🏼
Blue denim for definite.
Solid info.
You say avoid light grey but then you show pics of light grey saying its ok I'm confused
What about light brown pants with brown dress shoes? Do they match?
That works just fine
my preference is dark blue denim
Tan with light grey chinos
Thank you!

I think black pants work better with a medium brown / cognac / tan color leather. But dark brown + black can be tricky...
Great info and examples

Which color shoe best for black shirt and grey pant?
Black

No 3 shoes name

Light brown, haha. Literally. Or tan / cognac, all used interchangeably

But for shorter guys/guys with shorter legs, don't they say less contrast will heighten visually? ie, shoes closer in closer to pants
