Hauling gasoline for me was just not going to happen I’m not able - but solar is no fuss no muss as hang panels out a window on hooks and vent a lil AC thru your dryer vent or even bathroom fan vent if there’s no other way. Ppl need to get creative and do research and find what works for them. They don’t have to suffer thru this heat.

Then get a lil AC unit. It has to be vented but I’ve seen them vented out windows, out dryer vents and even bathroom vents. If you get 2 generators you can have cold food and cold apt, get 3 and you could run a electric stove. Hot plate or microwave. Could even make margaritas lol. You could also use it to run that tiny AC unit during non emergencies to save in summer electric bills. There’s really nothing to maintain. Just keep up with any warranty.

Cooling centers are crucial. I've been living in my car for many summers. Here are tips: ice chest, preferably block ice. It lasts longer. Use the melted ice water to saturate wash cloths. Put the wash cloth on the back of your neck and also lay one on top of where your ribcages meet(solar plexus) The wash cloth will absorb the heat so you will be replacing them frequently.
Also, stay in your car and run the a/c. This past heatwave I had to spend $15 /day for gas just to run the a/c, plus $6 /day for ice.

Yea but generator run on gas cost a lot of money run and have very limited power. You can maybe run your refrigator and that is it. They take about 1 gal for 2 hours of run time. The other problem is having and getting the gas. Gas station need electric to pump gas and a lot of gas station are out of gas or have no power. The other issue is gas genrator are noisy so you cannot run them at night and you cannot run them in your home. But people the next day were driving around saying they were out of food and stuff. You get ready long before hurricanes comes. Like collecting plastic bottle so you can fill a bunch of them in case there is a problem with the tap water ext. They tell you should at the min be able to care for yourself for 3 days. Well you should be thinking of 3 days. But having things like a small camping stove to heat water ect can help with the mental part of this. I have been though 3 hurricanes in FL and the worse part is the electric being out for days to weeks. But the people you really need to worry about are the elderly and the very young and then those who are on O2, and dialysis.

Former hurricanes have knocked power out for much longer. I don't remember people whining after 3 days. People were helping each other and knew how to prepare for a hurricane. Heb is one major grocery store with backup generators. A few gas stations also have backup generators.

Activate the National Guard/military load their vehicles with water and foods that require no prep., Walmart could donate every item of produce, bread, peanut butter, etc and not miss it, have them go to the neighborhoods, one by one and take these things and check on everyone. So glad we left the Houston area, praying for everyone impacted by more mismanagement, insensitivity and greed. This is an emergency not a garden party.
