- Batman Arkham Knight could have easily been the greatest Batman game ever made had Rocksteady ironed out their story beyond the first draft. So many elements of the story made zero sense and in all, for me, it just kinda sucked. My goal with this rewrite that separates it from my previous one is that I am attempting to make a brand new story that feels like a true finale to the Arkham franchise by carrying on the story of the previous two games, while also adding more lore to the overall narrative. One of my biggest problems with Arkham Knight is that, except for a couple references to Arkham City and a cutscene taking place in the Asylum, it really doesn't feel like an Arkham game narratively because it doesn't tie anything in from the previous games. So for this rewrite, I wanted to use most of the characters in the original game, but make them feel like themselves and actually flesh out their personalities unlike than the original game did. So, I hope that you all enjoy what I've presented for the first part of this rewrite!

There's a lot I like in here. Having the first thing the player does as batman be tracking penguin's truck across Gotham would be a great way to set the scene for the rest of the game as well as get the player used to the controls. I do feel it jumps from place to place a bit, and has a larger focus on the robins than on batman, but if that's what you're going for I won't fault you. great work man :)

After watching some of these Arkham Knights rewrites, I'm beginning to realize that a lot of the egregious flaws in the original story come from the limitation of having to always stay in Batman's POV, which is hard to get around in a nominally open world game. Almost every rewrite on youtube, even the ones that try to keep almost every element of the original, require shifts between Batman and Tim Robin.
Yeah, that’s definitely true. I also wanted Robin to take more of a role in the story because of how badly he (and the rest of the Batfamily really) was treated in the original game.
Mind you, I don't think it's a very valid excuse considering the Catwoman stuff in Arkham City pulled POV switches off perfectly. But I would be interested in someone's rewrite that keeps this original constraint in mind like the writers forced themselves to.

That is honestly what I was expecting when I saw those AK trailers when they shown Tim and Dick fighting along side Batman, and when I finally got the game and only played as the Robins for a short amount of time, I felt lied to by Rocksteady.
@dillonkarren5575 That would be interesting, I agree. However, I think these rewrites that pull focus to other perspectives are what would've made for the ideal story. While I think these games were mainly constrained by limitation of storytelling in gaming and the devs' priorities at the time, the gameplay, not their open-world nature.
Rocksteady wrote stories around the gameplay foremost, specifically a gameplay loop that would ensure the players we're always empowered as Batman. Which is why we rarely got any deeper character exploration or quieter moments where Bruce is in the Batcave, or saw the POV of the Batfamily or the villains.
Had these games come out today (mid 2010s-today) an era where game stories got more sophisticated and there's a better balance between giving us great gameplay with a fully fleshed out story, I imagine this is the Arkham Knight and series we would've gotten. One not constrained by having to only be a kickass Batman experience but also with giving us a fully developed Gotham and Batfamily.

So you're using the original Paul Dini idea of having Hush be one of the big bads. I think you should include Calendar Man too, considering how important he was to AC.
Also, I think a nice to convert your bank mission idea from cutscene to gameplay would be to have it be a dual stealth section, but make Robin much weaker than Batman. There's two phases, in the first phase you're Robin, and Batman will throw a batarang at any thug that spots you, then after Batman's knocked out, you have to fight without the safety wheels.
Where did you hear that Paul Dini wanted to use Hush for Arkham Knight? I only ask because when I asked Dini on Twitter where he would have taken the story for Arkham Knight, he said he hadn't given it any thought because he was never asked to come back.
@@JdeMolay Exactly. I've seen people say Paul Dini's idea was to have Hush be the main villain. But there's no source on where he ever said that. In an old interview, he explained why he never returned and said that WB didn't want to freelance writers anymore and they suggested he works on other projects.
Hush was never intended to be one of the big bads of the game. I swear, I don't know why people spout fan theories as if they were fact.
Hush was an entirely optional, small side quest in Arkham City. It was never intended to be anything beyond that. The way that they resolved it in Arkham Knight was fine enough.
@@DerrickUltima We don't know if Hush was intended to be a main antagonist or not because we don't know what Paul Dini had planned next and he never returned.
And I disagree about the way Hush's story was handled in Knight. Even if it was only meant to be a smaller story in the next game, Hush could've at least gotten a whole side mission arc about an impersonator of Bruce Wayne who's ruining his image.

I feel like I'm back in City again rather than the modernized streets of Gotham in the original.
I originally thought keeping Jason as the Arkham Knight was a let down but I soon grew to love it. Getting the reveal out of the way quickly rather than setting up a mystery was a nice touch. The way you changed Jason's character from a winey teenager with daddy issues who wants to be batman's nemeses to an actual threat was incredibly satisfying.
changing his motivation to being batman's successor and to bring real change in Gotham which he has become post joker death.
In the comic White Knight we figure out what Batman really means in it's universe; false hope. This does not mean I disagree in the ideology of batman's motif in other continuity this comic was a major exception. Jason's perspective in this rewrite can actually empathize with and to some extent has a point.
I like the inclusion of the bat family but I am afraid it will become overflow as this series goes on. We need a reason for the flashbacks so I get why he isn't exactly present here. I feel immersed with the pacing you set up; by putting twists and turns and new concepts left and right it makes the city chaotic, as well as it's slow moments.
The inclusion of hush served justice for the buildup in Arkham City I am impressed.
Personally I would love to see the villains being cut loose to reek havoc as a team up unanimously without a man pulling all the strings. Thisobstacle was another plot-point in White Knight. the purpose of this was to get under batman's skin by making all the villains team up. They can actually have a chance at beating batman when they fight side by side. I couldn't be more excited for this series to continue; I have been horni for this kind of retelling and I would kill for a chance to work on the project with you.

A minor complaint I have is that this is more like a movie rewrite than a game rewrite as you spend little to no time describing gameplay but I guess I get why you don’t
I love this but my only gripe is that it felt like you wanted to write movie rather than a video game. It would've gone a long way if you gave us an idea of when it was a combat section, cut-scenes or open-world. It felt like you were describing a Fight scene rather than a section of gameplay

This was really great man, I like how you tied in Jason to all the events of the prior two games. Driving Ras underneath Wonder Tower was a really nice touch. Excited to see part 2

The last of the LAS in Gotham and Joker getting Titan is because of Jason is the biggest plot twist as Jason is reason why all of Arkham happened.

This feels like a Arkham game since black mask gets sidelined
For this rewrite, I wanted to stick with all the characters that were in the game originally, which Black Mask wasn’t. It’s also intended as an homage to the Under The Red Hood story as they are the two big villains (besides Joker) that are present in it. In terms of him getting sidelined in the Arkham games, I agree, that’s why you should watch my Arkham Origins rewrite. I keep him as the main villain instead of Joker.

I like this! It’s 10 times better than what we got. I wish I can explain why but, I’m not much of a critic and I don’t know if I’ll be able to properly give you my thoughts. Maybe after finishing part 2, rewatching those videos, and reviewing my thoughts, I’ll give you a critique to show what you did right and wrong. Anyway, I thank you for making this video.

As I look back at your rewrite for Arkham Knight, I thought that it was superb to me. The way you narrated the story, showing the images and having good dialogue was awesome. Although there's a few flaws that I've pointed out like Batman himself getting sidelined at the beginning of the story in favour for bat family members like Nightwing and Robin, it would've been better to have Batman appear in the story more, but you could still have his proteges helping him out. Also, I liked the way you potrayed Jason Todd in your rewrite and I'm glad that he didn't need to rely on the miltia or using tanks and missiles but instead supervillains that cooperated with him at the start. I think it would be cool to give him a redemption arc or something. That's all I have for now, I wish you all the best.

I still think Jason Todd shouldn’t be the main villain since in Arkham city for the Tim drake’s robin biography it skims over Jason Todd being robin which what happen in the comics not to mention Paul Dini wrote both Arkham asylum and Arkham city and I don’t think his plan was to add Jason Todd as the main villain as he wasn’t set up to be the main villain in knight aside from a few quotes from joker in a challenge map. I think his vision was hush and scarecrow teaming up along with plot b being Harley Quinn and her child. For me I would have it hush (not as Arkham knight) instead of Jason Todd as Jason isn’t evil sure he a little insane but still I don’t think it would’ve have work as well still while it being a surprising reveal in your rewrite hush being the main villain works here and having flashbacks to him and Bruce’s childhood would be have more of a impact because the two were friends you could have Thomas being angry that he didn’t his money while Bruce is trying to help him and for him to see what he can do to fix his it. but I think the way rocksteady should’ve have done it is a side mission that has petty criminals being killed by and Batman finding Jason as the red hood and telling him to stop and for him to help but Jason Todd says no and is ready to take crime to his own hands by having these pathetic creatures being killed instead of saved with him getting away at the end and Batman assigning robin to take care of it.
That’s fair, he wasn’t set up to be the villain. However, I wanted this rewrite to use the characters that were in the original game and make them better. As far as Jason being super evil, if you pay attention to his dialogue, you can see where he’s coming from, so I wouldn’t say that he is purely evil. He sees crime fighting from a different perspective than Bruce sees it, which makes him an antagonist for sure, but not necessarily a true villain like the Joker is. His philosophies encourage conversation among fans like us, which is why I really gravitate towards this character.
@@TheRewriter Your video was great and makes the marketing come full circle with the villains teaming up expect black mask because WB and rocksteady hate the character for some reason, and yes in his eyes it makes sense who wouldn’t go insane after all he when thought it seems outright justified for Jason to hate Batman but since jokers died by this point I think he would thank Bruce for killing that monster and avenging him at least he thinks he killed him but we know he would’ve save joker no matter what he did, I don’t think Jason should be trying to kill Batman regardless if he got dipped in Ra’s pit I think at first he would be happy that his father killed that heartless monster and than would kill petty criminals low life thugs, crime bosses less known ones not black mask, Maxie Zeus or the Great white shark there fine and then go to Batman to say thanks for killing joker once and for all and then leave only to come back as side mission for robin or a dlc story like battle for the cowl. Also you made so Jason was the one that kill joker not The titan formula which weird because the idea of Batman giving the cure to joker still means he wants to help these poor souls and get there lives back on track I mean you said it’s a rewrite fixing the original story and not so much making a new story altogether. Also one last thing please add Harley Quinn’s child in your rewrite story because in Arkham city you can find a Easter egg of Harley Quinn’s pregnancy test showing positive and a lot people thought that was going to play a role in the next Arkham game but when Paul Dini left rocksteady scrapped it which kinda disappointing me since it was Dini’s plan for the next Arkham game for Harley Quinn and her baby to play a role in it, I always wonder what would Dini had done for it if he stayed on for the story dlc of Arkham city (Harley Quinn’s revenge) and Arkham knight or Arkham 3.

I like a lot of this rewrite but I feel like the opening of the original game was good in terms of introducing the characters. I feel like this opening is just a little to messy. To many players introduced in top of this “new” big player.
Edit: I also just don’t see some of the villains working together. Ivy is definitely the one I wouldn’t see working for anyone if it doesn’t help her.

I like this but it feels more like a movie then a batman game. I envision from this more Robin gameplay than batman as of part 1 but gonna check out part 2 now. This is still very very good tho. If this was a movie, I’d be on the edge of my seat
One thing: If Jason killed Joker by supplying him with Titan formula, there's a bit of a plot hole. Why would he not just shoot him, or use a bomb, or any other way to kill Joker? His plan assumes 1: that Joker will use the titan on himself, and 2: that it will definitely be fatal and a cure will not be administered. It seems overly complicated.
Maybe because shooting the Joker will leave a clue that could lead Batman to capture Jason.
Also, every story(no matter how good or masterful they)will always have a plot hole. Try not to get obsessed about them or else you’ll become as obnoxious as Douge Walker or Cinema Sins.

If they ever intended on making a story set after Arkham Knight, I always thought it would be a good time for the Battle for the Cowl storyline.
I couldn’t agree more, that’s what I thought Gotham Knights was going to be before it was announced that it wasn’t apart of the Arkhamverse. Plus, it’s one of my favorite stories!
I would have scrapped the Arkham Knight persona for this version of the story. Just stick with Red Hood.
This Red Hood is much more accurate, always preferred the kingpin of crime interpretation

this would work like an animated movie but in a video game sense, this would just be so slow to play due to the heavy need for cutscenes. Also even if some parts were playable, it would feel boring (batfamily trying to figure out what happened to Bruce) Cool story just wouldn't work as a game at all

This is very good story and all the directions that you're taking it but realistically I think this would have to be a movie as opposed to a game cuz it seems like you're not really having enough room for actual like gameplay like there's spots where I see you could actually have gameplay in your story but I don't think in the long run there'd be enough to really make a full game I think it'd have to be more of a movie which there's nothing wrong with that and I love the story either way keep it up

The Arkham Knight was revealed a bit too early. He could have done more damage (physical & psychological) to the Bat family before the "reveal." Still, like the story thus far.

Why does black mask have a revolver if he was one of the guys going to prison, did jason give it to him?
Nah, just an oversight on my part. I was thinking about how to make the scene dramatic, but then realized that it didn’t make sense as he was a prisoner, he wouldn’t have a gun.
You have basically removed the possibility of side missions through the structure and by putting them into the actual story but it is a good story, but this doesn’t feel like a video game story more of a movie, games stories are made with mechanics and level design in hand, I’m just saying not trying to shit on the story
Not necessarily. I added some of the side quests into the main story to give them more meaning, as they were done poorly in the game. But this doesn’t mean that you can’t have new side quests with different characters, and you can still have basically all the season of infamy side quests too. To your other point, read my community post that I made 3 months ago, I explain my process when it comes to video game rewrites.

This version of Joker is not due to Batman having Joker’s blood in him. In this version, the Joker acts more like a manifestation of Batman’s anger and fear. So it’s a different take.

“…Everything in the past two games…” there’s three man there’s three other Arkham games
Arkham is a trilogy: Asylum, City, Knight. Origins was an unneeded prequel that was shoved in to fill time for Knight. Arkham Knight carries the story of Asylum and City, not Origins.

@@SomeGlasses I never said Origins wasn’t cannon, but the MAIN story is the three games, not Origins. Rocksteady didn’t even want Montreal to make a prequel, WB did, that’s why it’s mostly disconnected from the other games.

First movie: superman1-he’s the heart of dc so his first movie will be a soft origin. Same as man of steel but Bad guy will be metallo post credit will show a news clip of lucious fox discussing some of the damages of wayne enterprises due to the fight obviously setting up Batman.
2: Martian the manhunter (he would show up in Superman) some point in the movie you would hear a radio feed about a failed bank heist in bludhaven which would be a hint to nightwing and the bat family. post credit scene would have something with Gordon talking about “I think the bat might be back”
3. Wonder Woman (plays out similar to the 2017) post credit actually shows the big bad bat take out someone in crime alley who was trying to rob a family of three (like Bruce) but you just see the ears and cape.
4. A Batman film. Modern day with nightwing featured just a little. Post credit Turns out he dick and Alfred were keeping tabs on these heros that is viewers thought Batman had no idea who they were.
5. Batman V Superman: Worlds finest 2 post credit scenes something with cyborg and flash
6. Justice league1 bad guy - general zodd
7. Nightwing movie (I know I know but this would be a grounded movie to show his growth from his time as a robin) this will end phase 1
Let me know what you think. I kind of jumbled this together, but if I could flush it out probably would’ve made more sense.
This isn’t a bad rewrite by any means but it really doesn’t feel like it’s meant for a video game
I don’t think that twist makes sense. Why would Jasón slowly poison joker in such a complex way? He would just shoot him, take him out before he could take any more lives
Ok, so he walks in and shoots Joker in the head, right? Now he’s got all the police force, Joker’s gang, and Batman and his allies on him, which puts him at a severe disadvantage, something Jason would never do. Plus, any hopes of him controlling the streets are dashed because he’s public enemy number 1 as everyone’s hunting him. Working in an unseen fashion allows him to manipulate events without any of this ever happening. I mean, he doesn’t just go and shoot Joker in the head in Under The Red Hood, so why would he do that here?
@@TheRewriter hey it’s just a criticism. From what I take from Jasons character, he wouldn’t risk killing joker slowly as it would allow him to kill more innocent people. Also, what makes you think he’d let himself get caught?
@@bigheck143 Yes, criticism that I’m proving incorrect. You’re missing the point of Jason’s revenge against Joker. He never wanted to get back to Gotham as quickly as he could so he could put a bullet in Joker’s head and call it a day. He wanted Joker to suffer, that’s why in the movie he got Black Mask to get Joker out of prison, knocking out two birds with one stone. He knew Joker would turn on BM, eliminating that threat, and allowing him the opportunity the best Joker with a crowbar in the same way that it happened to him. In my version, it’s different, but it’s the same idea. By having Joker go through a slow, painful death, he’d be suffering the entire time, and it’s even more effective as Jason doesn’t even have to lay a finger on him. To your last point, he’d get caught, he’s up against the World’s Greatest Detective, he’d figure it out.

I understand you have a different view of his character than mine and that is valid, and so is mine. I can't read your emotions, expression or cadence over a RUclips comment but it seems you can't take criticism too well. It's a problem I had with the rewrite, and maybe it is just me, and everyone else feels differently. I don't want an argument out of this, especially if you can't comprehend a different view than your own. There is plenty more I dislike and like about this rewrite but this is just what stood out in the moment.
@@bigheck143 I can take criticism, or I wouldn’t have made a RUclips channel. You see it as “a different point of view,” but I’m trying to tell you that it’s not correct. I’m not mad or anything, nor am I trying to start an argument, I’m trying to explain to you the comic origin of the character, which trumps every other source in terms of core aspects of a comic book character.

He’s a pretty unknown rogue of Batman’s. The reason I added him was because he kept getting Easter eggs in Asylum and City, but never actually showed up in an Arkham game.

I think the whole Joker-worshipper section needs a hostage, or a bomb, or something like that. They're not actually committing a crime by praising Joker - so having Robin go in to beat the shit out of them seems like overkill.
They were inciting violence and planning to take over the city. And when Robin showed up, they attacked him. This wasn’t some peaceful worship, they were terrorists.
the game was written fine. fans are just overly nostalgic for city and cry that the batmobile was there more than they wanted

The rewrite here should have been changing the Arkham Knight from Jason to Jim Gordon Jr. To tell a story of the deranged son of Jim Gordon. Which would have actually been a new character ... As they advertised. 😑

But I always like this as well, So Jason created the Titan formula doesn’t that also mean Bane and anyone who took the serum will also be dying, since that formula just faded away in the Arkham Knight, second is the leader of the Joker worshiper supposed to be Deacon Blackfire, third I guess that’s Hush as the Bruce Wayne who is going into partnership with Lex Luther and he is part of Jason’s plan? also is Calendar man, Victor Zsasz, Mad Hatter, Killer Croc and Mr Wing going to make an appearance?
Yes, Jason infected the Titan formula, meaning anyone who took it is dying unless they had the cure. For your second question, he can be Deacon if you want him to be, but all I wanted was just a cultist looking person, and he fit the bill. Really enjoyed the story. I really enjoyed Arkham knight a lot at first I hated because of the Batmobile like everyone else pretty much. But after I tried it and gave up I bought it again on Halloween.
Played 6 hours straight while eating hot Cheetos lime & drinking Coke cola with cookies too! It was a blast!
I just ran around Gotham beating up criminals and driving!
Then after that I played the story. I really really enjoyed it
It took me a little less than a month I beat it on thanksgiving morning.
I really enjoyed every second of it the story was great gameplay more than perfect ...
It’s a 10/10 for me. My favorite Arkham Game. Arkham city is a very close 2nd tho. I still haven’t played Arkham origins but I plan to!

Titan is an advanced strain of Venom, which comes from Santa Prisca. Jason sabotaged the Venom that ultimately became Titan.

I don’t think should have dialogue just ripped from Batman: Under the Red Hood cause it feels really cheap to do that. For people who haven’t seen that movie I guess it’s ok but a lot of Batman fans have seen that movie because it is one of the best ones. Just my opinion.
Dude, I used a couple lines from the movie to pay homage to great scenes of dialogue, that’s all. The other 98% of the dialogue is all my own.

Arkham Knight being the main villain instead of scarecrow is better as Batman has to face off against himself.
I think the story is good, but this would make a better comic, movie, or tv show and not a video game.

The point Jason is making is that by Batman not killing his villains, he’ll never make Gotham truly safe as they just keep coming back out of Arkham and wreaking havoc. Jason is living proof of this as if Batman killed the Joker years before, Jason would never have died. In the 9 months between Arkham City and this story, Gotham is safer than it’s ever been due to Jason killing Joker and controlling crime lords. His motivation is making Gotham safer, but by doing this in ways that are fundamentally opposite to the way Batman operates, showing him that Batman’s way is flawed.

I am sick of Batman media doing Black Mask dirty, he can easily be as good or better than the Penguin in similar roles. Yet this rewrite has him dead in another cliche "Oh wow this guy shouldn't be messed with" moment. Shame :/
Lol, go watch my Arkham Origins rewrite, I literally have Black Mask as the villain the whole time to counter that exact issue. As far as having Black Mask killed here, he isn’t present in the main game, and in this rewrite, I’m trying to make it have the characters that are in the original story, just having different roles, so he wasn’t going to fit anyway.

What about Origins
What I mean by this is that Arkham Knight’s story was set up by Asylum and City. Origins (even though it’s a prequel) acts more like a spin-off rather than building towards Arkham Knight. Meaning that the main trilogy is Asylum, City, and Knight, with Origins as a spin-off.

Eh, not terrible, but I also don’t really like this rewrite as you cut out Batman a LOT so it just seems like a bunch of time skips and filler with no real gameplay value, not terrible as a movie/show but not great as a game.

How is this just like Under The Red Hood? Sure, the intro is similar to pay homage to that story while also linking City and Knight together in a more believable way, but that ends it. The rest of this story is completely different with an actual focus on the Bat-Family and with an entire change to Jason’s plans. In that story, Joker’s alive and Jason seeks to get him out of Arkham so that he can have Batman kill him. In this story, Joker’s already dead, so Jason’s plan is to eradicate crime in Gotham by showing Batman that he has been failing this city the whole time by not killing his villains. Plus, Jason doesn’t manipulate the villains to enact his plans like he does here. This is a pretty major change, but it can’t be too drastic or it’s not even the character anymore. Plus, there’s a whole other main plot going on here that doesn’t exist in that story. Saying that this is exactly like UTRH is disingenuous as there are major differences, but in the end, this is Red Hood’s (or Arkham Knight in this story) origin, certain elements have to be there, it’s the character. And this is only part one, I still have another part that is further proof that this story is different.

Kinda strange how people are really misrepresentative and disingenuous about Arkham knights story but completely ignore how sloppy Arkham city’s story is. Sniff Sniff, inconsistent standards I smell sniff sniff. I’m sorry but Arkham City definitely has more plot problems than Arkham knight. Nostalgia truly is a deficiency towards human kind.
This is a great story and would make for an amazing comic or movie but I do not think it would make for a great game because there is almost nowhere to fit in any gameplay and even when there is it isn't Batman gameplay
