I saw this movie in 1965 in SanFrancisco. I can’t remember much about it other than I was totally mesmerized by it. I wish I could see it again thru my 18 year old eyes . I’m going on 77 this year!
I am jealous that you saw it when it was first released in '65! Yes, it is funny how some movies stay with you throughout your life - and how with some you can remember exactly where you were in your life when you first saw them - and how you reacted! Happy Birthday 77 when it arrives!
Fellini's first color film is sumptuous! His use of bright red-orange appears throughout. Either someone is wearing it or sitting next to or even drinking it! This scene especially is my favorite. Thanks! 🟥🟧
The martyrdom of countless Christians for their faith is a terrible, terrible tragedy. And yet, the Church and Christian religions did the same to their own and each other. Worse, expecting the faithful to die for the Church instead of for God, as Jesus did, martyred by His Chief Priests, like prophets before, who knew the living God. Matthew 23 : 1-13 In this case, as Fellini wonderfully shows, the Church would have us sacrifice being human beings as Jesus was. We need to feel our feelings and understand what we feel and experience. It can help us free our inner child, rather than stuff our feelings in a closet, as in this great movie. Fellini was a great man. His wife who stars here, is a great woman for supporting him. His inclusion of the spirit elements in us is crucial to our evolution. His work with Jung enhanced this. Someday, we'll return to the eternal dream.
