This to me looks like one of their best carchar models, also was that your cat that was meowing in the background? Also as always a very nice video. I love your reviews, it really makes me want to buy a PNSO model of my own. Their models are pretty expensive though. Cant wait for the next review.
Haha yes indeed! Hungry cats don't care about the work of voice recording! Unfortunately, if you're living in the West, a lot of the price you pay is due to the shipping 😪 It sucks, but if you were to remove shipping and middleman fees, you would probably be paying 2/3 or even just 1/2 for some of those figures! Thank you very much for your support! I appreciate your kind words and your time in watching my videos! 😁😁
Meraxes has just arrived and oh boy this one is gorgeous! The sculpt, paintings, details... absolute perfection. The thing is, I (and probably everyone) never expacted a company make a figure of a species that was just discovered last year! And probably this is the first time I would dare to say; "Dang, it's better than its promotional image!" Borrowing some of TierZoo's terms, it seems that tiny arms are 'the meta of large canivorous theropods in Cretaceous expansion.' Tyrannosaurs, Abelisaurs, Carcharodontosaurs... they all seems to had invested on their bitings and have tiny arms since their jaws do most of their work, thus no need for big and strong arms. This is the point that makes us qurious; "Ok, what's with the huge talons of Meraxes? If they were on 'biting - all - in' meta, what was the actual use of them?" I think this is the charming point of Meraxes gigas. We do not know whether they were useful for hunt or not, and that's where the fun begins. I was so shocked when PNSO announced Meraxes and now they're going to bring Mapusaurus roseae to the market. I think PNSO's plan is to make Carcharodontosauroid collection.
Well you are very much correct, because with Mapusaurus now, it's clear that we have almost all the significant carchardontosaurids! So if in fact they give us Concavenator, there would really be nothing more I would want from this clade. Who knew we'd get carharodontosaurids filled out faster than the tyrannosaurids! I think you must have been very delighted to see it in person! The sad fact is that there is a lot of dynamic range that isn't easy to capture. the happy thing is that whatever looks good on video, often looks better in person. It's had to say why Meraxes toe claw was so big, but the wonderful thing about paleontology is that there is always something new to discover that will shed light on an entire group. Only time wiill tell! 😁
Wonderful Review as usual. Thank you for that. What happend in the Background is well known for me, while i record something, hehe. He or she was a nice addition to the Video :) While the Coloration and Paint application really are great, at least to me, i really like the Pose. PNSO Theropods often have the Hips as the highest Point. With exceptions of course. And while thats fine as it is, it is refreshing to see another calm and natural, yet highly aware Pose. I like it a lot.
Lol hungry cats don't care about unimportant things like voice recordings! 🤣🤣 I'm glad you found it as amusing as I did! Very good point; I should have mentioned that! Yes indeed the posture is subtler different simply because of that, and it's nice that it shows that to be able to stand without a base, doesn't mean that the poses must always be the same. Given that they probably walked the same way more or less, these subtle changes are very welcome, especially to those who recognize it!
Subjectively the best looking carchardontosaurid so from PNSO :D Not only that but this review was pretty nice and I think the patterns contrast with Meraxes and the other carchardontosaurids are beautiful and just lovely. In conclusion, this review was very great and informational, hope you have a great rest of your day.
It is invariably appreciated when you upload. This is one of my favorite PNSO figurines so far. But I wish for sauropods soon, big ones. Also I heard your cat in the background
Haha yes, hungry cats don't care when you're trying to do a recording! 🤣🤣 As for big sauropods, I am hopeful, but not holding my breath. PNSO seems to have decided that very large animals take a 1:45 scale. Unless they find a way to reduce the weight of the model, shipping would be horrible for Western collectors! 😪
Hello DinosDragons. I very much like your content as its not just a review but also has quite an analysis of the species, so that us casuals can get into learning about thesese creatures. Im getting into PNSO myself, but due to the lack of space and budget, Id prefer to keep the collection small. Do you have a top 5-10 reccomended pnso models? Id very much appreciate the input. And thank you so much.
This just became one of my favorite PNSO theropod presentations. The color scheme is probably nowhere near what the animals looked like but the aesthetics can’t be denied as a positive move in color structure by PNSO. And, as always, the sculpt is magnificent with the rich detail and accuracy. No brained purchase.
And in your comment, we have my general philosophy as well. I think up to a certain point, there are certain leeways we should allow for, and we would all enjoy this hobby and the models that are out there a lot more. If everything were held to the most exacting standards of scientific plausibility, this would be a very confining art indeed. And in fact, the very extinct nature of these magnificent animals makes "exacting standards" a bit of an impossibility in itself. Just a cursory overview of all the competing views between credible scientists makes that clear. I hope you enjoy your purchase. It is really something quite special, this little ceratopsian!
Nice video as always! I’ve been hoping for centuries for pnso to start releasing not only smaller theropods like utharaptor or dilophosaurus, but also a variety of prehistoric reptiles(flying, and terrestrial)
Centuries eh! 🤣🤣 I highly suspect PNSO will give us some marine animals this year. As for smaller dinosaurs, I think it's about time! The absence of the eudromaeosaurs is very noticeable. I am expecting that it would have to be on a larger scale though! I'm sure you saw how having a 1:35 Nanotyrannus meant in terms of size and detail. Certainly not sufficient to give full glory to the Velociraptor. Perhaps on a similar size to their Microraptor would be nice.
Been waiting on this review which was awesome as always… I didn’t think I would be excited for this group of Dino’s being so rounded out but seeing them all together has made me even fall in love with gamba (a figure I originally didn’t like)
Yes. I feel they should have held it back to further down the road. There's a danger of saturation otherwise. Hopefully this will be the last for a while to give us time to fully digest what they've given us!
It’s incredible how much PNSO has improved their already spectacular models in barely even a year. My Meraxes gigas finally came yesterday, and is my first larger theropod from their prehistoric animals series. And my god, am I glad I waited for it rather than impatiently getting something else. Absolutely one of my favourite figures I own of anything.
You said it! There are many points of unhappiness with PNSO for many people. But when you actually own one of these, and get to view the kind of paint application that a video cannot fully demonstrate, and the scale detail, you realise these models are a cut above many others. The only thing I hope they can fix right now is the sloppiness in the teeth. Especially after Rebor has shown us how it's done.
@@DinosDragons they really are a blast! I also picked up the Suchomimus and am so surprised to how well they design their models and how they actually stand on their own as well. I display it with its stand (to avoid warping) but sometimes it’s cool to admire it standing independently. Why do people complain about stands/bases? They’re so cool! Especially stylised ones, such as the Dino Hazard Irritator, which I ordered recently (for half price!). Stands allow for top notch models with perfect proportions, so not only are they cool, they can make or break the whole figure. For example, I’ve been disappointed with CollectA’s more recent theropod models. They seem to be going down an almost Mattel style route with the giant feet. I backed down from JW ages ago. Nice detailing, but apart from that, nothing special. They’ve also been doing this thing where some dinosaurs have teeth going underneath and past their orbital fenestra. How ugly is that! Let alone inaccurate. And you bring up Rebor’s excellent toothwork. We need more companies implementing that beautiful, sort of translucent and realistic looking structure. Keep up the awesome work, man! Easily one of the best review channels on the platform
Love your content, super helpful and informative; I do have a personal question, I too bought the Meraxes, but mine doesn't stand like yours, any suggestions on how to fix it??
You might try the hot water treatment. Immerse it in hot water, and when it softens, reposition it in place and hold it for a few minutes. However these figures _will_ warp over time without the support. It's a well-known phenomenon, and no matter how well their theropod balances out of the box, you absolutely have to use the supports. You don't want to set it on a shelf, and then find out the next day it fell off. You can see that even in mine, at various angles the dinosaur is already looking a little off kilter. Hopefully PNSO can use harder material in future, but the fact is that that would likely increase production costs which will be passed to the consumer.
Very pretty figure! Glad they finally decided to make a figure that isn't brown, much better than usual. Still hoping that they add lips to their theropods eventually.
Well this was unexpected 😅 I thought the next figure would be tyrannotitan or mapusaurus buuut whooo knows maybe pnso already planed their next carcharadontosaur + I really love this figure & great video
Thank you! Well I certainly wasn't expecting this immediately after Giganotosaurus! I would have thought they would spread it out. But since they're giving us this, they might as well round it all up with Tyrannotitan and Mapusaurus too! 😁
Tell me about it! Before PNSO, we had just a few Carcharodontosauruses and Giganotosauruses around. Thanks to PNSO this clade is now almost as populous on the shelf as my tyrannosaurids! Almost makes me think PNSO needs to tackle some new tyrannosaurs... but then they've also severely neglected the abelisaurids! Not to mention the eodromaeosaurs... looks like we're going to get a glut of theropods in the years to come!
@@DinosDragons I agree with you. It would be incredible if PNSO brings figures like Alioramus, Nanuqsaurus and more tyrannosaurs. I hope they do more abelisaurids like Pycnonemosaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops etc.
Yes indeed! It used to be CollectA that would be first with new genera. But since the major companies announce all releases at once, while PNSO released year round, I think PNSO would have more flexibility.
Great video tbh,Meraxes Gigas lived in the Huincul formation in south America during the cretaceous period,it coexisted with the larger mapusaurus and other abelisaurids and megaraptornans,Meraxes only lived for about 2 million years due to competition form the larger and more evolved Mapusaurus.
Thanks for the info! And speaking of that, I think the next Carcharodontosaurid PNSO should gives us is Mapusaurus! Might as well give us the rest of the sharktooths! 🤣 I never thought I'd see more carcharodontosaurids than tyrannosaurids from any company!
really another amazing figure! this proves how pnso can get more creative with color and patterns and still use a more natural vibe on their theropods and not too colorful to the point where they cannot ambush prey
@@theimmortaleye7511 allosaurus and carcharodontosaurus are the most similar in coloration by far and their similarity is way too much although i dont mind it because if you think about modern predators we have many who share the same color and similar pattern likely due to convergent evolution but not everyone thinks like i do and it would be better to just try to avoid that
@Fire Gator I'm really hoping that PNSO can continue on this trajectory. Certainly from their artwork it's very clear they do have other ideas, so why more of them haven't been translated to their models is a mystery. Hopefully the sales on this one will help show which way the wind blows with the fans! 😁
16:30 It's crazy how PNSO arguably owns the definitive figures of all of these genera! I do prefer Haolonggood's Carcharodontosaurus, but I still find it incredible how they've really taken over almost every single genus they've made a figure on in such a short period of time relative to other brands in this demographic/price range.
Indeed it's amazing what they've done! I mean, it looks like I'm a completist because I have about all of PNSO's models, but actually, I'm not! It just so happens that PNSO has time and again met all three of my criteria for sculpt, paint application, and scientific accuracy. Each of their 'normal' releases is like what I would get only as 'special events' in the past. That's how they're bleeding me dry! .😭
In the previous Giganotosaurus video, I mentioned that I hope to see 'Maip macrothorax and Llukalkan' soon. But I didn't mention 'Meraxes' because I never thought they would deliver two back-to-back carcharodontosaurid theropods within this short period. So this is a pleasant surprise. And being fairly a new theropod, 'Meraxes' is so lucky that PNSO gave it some special treatment. I always say, my favorite theropod paint applications from PNSO are Tarbosaurus and Torvosaurus. And now this new Meraxes paint job goes into that same category. I can see why they chose this species this quickly. Because they didn't have to change a lot in the figure, just like you said, most of it is the same. Being in the same Tribe as Giganotosaurini, that chin is so obvious. Since PNSO released four Carcharodontosauridae family members, from those four, two of them being Giganotosaurini, I think PNSO will complete that Giganotosaurini tribe. And hopefully, some flying reptiles maybe 😉. As always, I Love watching your videos, my dear sir. And thank you for the lecture. I learned a lot about this new genus from you and eagerly waiting to see the next video. Keep up the fantastic work, and wish you all the best. Be safe ❤
Thanks as always Rajitha! Indeed, while I expected Meraxes would make an appearance eventually, I would never have thought they'd do it back-to-back. It was quite a risk especially since many who bought Giganoto as a Museum Line would possibly have skipped on this one due to saturation. As it turns out, we can see that with colouration like this, it would be hard to pass. I would never have thought my selection of carchrodontosaurid species would surpasss my tyrannosauroid ones, and now PNSO has done just that for me! I'm almost hoping for another tyrannosaurid, most obviously the 'long-armed' Daspletosaurus. I've wondered about pterosaurs, but I think more 'urgent' might be a plesiosauroid of some kind! And I have a very, very strong feeling that PNSO is going to give us sea animals this year! You take care and hang in there!
I love this one's colours! I'm adding this one to my wishlist just for the coat alone! Personally though I'm not a fan of the new way PNSO is doing the jaw joint. On the previous Giga the joint had a hole in it which you could see light pass through which just looks weird to me. It's much better it seems on this model though.
i dont have that jaw joint problem, the problem is with pnso they have awful quality control , sometimes u get amazing paint and welding , and sometimes bad paint, glue points or bad jaw welding . if u have it from amazon or aliexpress contact them and u might get some pricereduction
@@lambdadelta821 my styracosaurus has a fingerprint gluestain from someone acc putting his finger on its back after gluing the head, atleast it was free afterwards😂😂😂
@horse14t Good observation. I didn't notice the hole in the Giganotosaurus but I'll have a look. I did notice on this one though! It's a bit of a pity. I can personally overlook it, but I know some collectors more sharp-eyed than I who would find this jarring!
@@theimmortaleye7511 i don't know if they could pull off their usual detail in such a small model. Even a utahraptor would be difficult. But ide love to see them give it a shot
@@starbirds2464 why does it have to be small , they dont have consistent scales ( they try 1:35 but many are also 1:20 like quanzhosaurus or 1:50 like spino etc. Microraptor aswell is big.) u could make the dromeausaur line be 1:18 or smth and have 15-19 cm figures. Noone would complain much since we all wanna see them. Theyd also have an open market since except botm noone does good raptors.
The orbital crests on theropods were likely more built up with keratin for colorful display. In today's large flightless birds, we see on Cassowarys bright blues and reds. These are all high quality models, and the most accurate depictions of dinosaurs out there.
What I like about PNSO is that whether you agree with the final form or not, they have a reason behind why they sculpt their models the way they do. Nothing random or done just for their own fancies!
@@DinosDragons i suppose i shouldve put the timestamp closer to the meowing to show i was commenting on that lol but yeah that scale detail is so unprecedented
I'd say that it already matches Rebor pretty much for many of its offerings. For the Nanmu I can only think of the Once and Future King green version as a really oustanding paint job. Which others do you think are the best examples from Nanmu? I'll go educate myself.
He looks awesome in hand! Cant wait to recieve mine! I love the color scheme so much! Now we need Mila the Mapusaurus, Carlos the Concavenator and new version of Dayong the Yangchuanosaurus!
i know mapusaurus will be so close to giga it will be basicly a repaint , and after giga and meraxes they should do smth else , but i hope we do get mapusaurus
@VENATOR @VENATOR Those are definitely good choices! Before PNSO, I never really considered the carcharodontosaurid family would ever be given as much love as the usual suspects, but now with so many, PNSO has truly raised awareness of the clade. Might as well give us the Mapusaurus and Concavenator, both rather well-known. Come to think of it, Yangchuanosaurus is overdue for an overhaul as well, and I think Sinraptor needs some company!
@@DinosDragons i would still really be fascinated to see how pnso would handle dromeausaurs, but then they prob need to abandon their 1:35 scale for most
As far as I know, it is! It was just described last year. In the past CollectA would be first usually, but now it seems like PNSO has more freedom to do that since they release all year round.

Also it helps since alot of theropods kinda look the same from them overtime. Allosaurus the most🥲
@@theimmortaleye7511 allosaurus and carcharodontosaurus are the most similar in coloration by far and their similarity is way too much
although i dont mind it because if you think about modern predators we have many who share the same color and similar pattern likely due to convergent evolution but not everyone thinks like i do and it would be better to just try to avoid that
@Fire Gator I'm really hoping that PNSO can continue on this trajectory.
@@theimmortaleye7511 that's true.. a side of my carcharo's head had no stripes at all. And of course the version 1 ankylosaurus
@@lambdadelta821 my styracosaurus has a fingerprint gluestain from someone acc putting his finger on its back after gluing the head, atleast it was free afterwards😂😂😂
@horse14t
Good observation. I didn't notice the hole in the Giganotosaurus but I'll have a look. I did notice on this one though! It's a bit of a pity. I can personally overlook it, but I know some collectors more sharp-eyed than I who would find this jarring!
I thought PNSO were going to do a mapusaurus. But this will do just fine!
They will eventually, it seems they have a soft spot for carcrahodonrosaurids. We have 2 giganotosaurus, a carchar, an acro and now a meraxes.
@@starbirds2464 and they really really dont like dromeausaurs since they never tried a single one
@@theimmortaleye7511 i want dromrodsurs to scale with my other big theropods why would i want a giga sized dromeaosaur in my 1/34th collection
6:50 🙀🙀
It's really beautiful to look at isn't it! Trust me, get this into your hands, and it's even better!
@@DinosDragons i suppose i shouldve put the timestamp closer to the meowing to show i was commenting on that lol but yeah that scale detail is so unprecedented
What I want is an Elasmosaurus, but also the midd-size theropods, like concavenator, ceratosaurus, dilophosaurus and cryolophosaurus.
Well be prepared! I have a very *strong feeling* that PNSO will give us some marine animals this year! Including even an elasmosaurid! 😁
Sadly mine cant stand by itself, i think it's because of the long claw which was weak, soft and cant support the weight
I think it's not just the claw sadly. The whole leg tends to warp over time, so for all theropods please use the stand!
PNSO slowly approaching the quality we get from NANMU & REBOR with this Meraxes figure. Keep it up guys : )
I'd say that it already matches Rebor pretty much for many of its offerings. For the Nanmu I can only think of the Once and Future King green version as a really oustanding paint job. Which others do you think are the best examples from Nanmu? I'll go educate myself.
예쁘다 이녀석도 사야겠다
It's definitely worth buying! It's even more beautiful in hand than can be shown on the video! 😁
I can't believe they went mad on this paint job after so much brown
Haha believe it! 😍
I love pnso figures but they are so expensive. I am planning on getting the new spino, the giga and the rex.
Unfortuatnely if you are in the West, they add on shipping, taxes, middleman charges and so on 😪😪
@@DinosDragons I'll just buy them from minizoo once they're in stock, as then I will get free shipping
I really wish PNSO would release an edmontosaurus, to complete my Hell Creek collection. It's long long overdue....
Their iguanodon sorta is just edmontosaurus
They're very different in my eyes XD
@Dr. Aum
Agreed, and _true __1:35_ please!
I know what’s next on my list.
Let me guess! ... The Papo Protoceratops? 🤣
@@DinosDragons nope, meraxes
@@DinosDragons but that’s a close second behind their Giganotosaurus 😂😂
He looks awesome in hand! Cant wait to recieve mine! I love the color scheme so much! Now we need Mila the Mapusaurus, Carlos the Concavenator and new version of Dayong the Yangchuanosaurus!
i know mapusaurus will be so close to giga it will be basicly a repaint , and after giga and meraxes they should do smth else , but i hope we do get mapusaurus
I want concavenator for the next carcharodonotsaurid
@VENATOR
@VENATOR
Those are definitely good choices!
@@DinosDragons i would still really be fascinated to see how pnso would handle dromeausaurs, but then they prob need to abandon their 1:35 scale for most
I never seen a Meraxes figure before, could this be the first one ever?
Yes considering it is a newly discovered species
It was recently discovered
As far as I know, it is! It was just described last year. In the past CollectA would be first usually, but now it seems like PNSO has more freedom to do that since they release all year round.
So cool also first
It's cool to be first! 😁
Ur cat ok?
Hey thanks for asking! She's been unwell for a while now, chronic problems. She was probably just hungry for attention 😁
