Lets not get carried away, huh j? Theres a HUGE difference between writing a pop song and what Mozart wrote, ditto for Beethoven and so many others. PAUL would tell you this I'm sure. Writing basic 4-part harmony for a symphony orchestra and writing for a pop band, well, if one piece of McCartneys music brings you to a state of bliss then who am I to say whose music is 'better', thats subjective. I'm just saying that the complexity of writing for one as to th3 other isn't really comparable. Just the variety of instruments alone, the transposition etc., we're talking the equivalent of mathematical genius. I studied 4 part writing in collage and played pop music with bands. I'm a huge Beatles fan too, since seeing them on Ed Sullivan ifn February of '64 so I'm not biased or a classical 'snob', it is just what it is though. Bicycles and motorcycles, row boats and ships and so on, either will get you were you wanna go, either can be exciting, Anyhow, not meant to be critical of your comment.

"On the wings of a nightingale" by the Everly Brothers (1984). Paul's original demo is pop perfection. And I'd love to hear his version of "Songbird in a cage"". In this video, there's obviously a mix-up between 'I'll keep you satisfied" and "I call your name" (both mostly Lennon songs anyway). One big omission, at the very least: "Step inside love" by Cilla Black. "Giddy" is not half-bad either (by Roger Daltrey)...

And same here -- I've been playing stringed instruments of all types for -- well, for over 50 years actually, but I only started getting serious about them about 50 years ago. ha ha

When I first heard it about six months ago, I instantly liked it better than Badfinger's version, despite Badfinger's imitating McCartney's, including following his production instructions when they recorded their version.

I would include My Dark Hour co-written and credited to Steve Miller. It started as a chance for Miller to meet the Beatles while he was in GB. Eventually the others left and It was Paul who suggested "do you want to write a song". Paul ended up playing bass, guitar & drums and doing background vocals, while Steve played guitars and sang lead. It was on the Steve Miller Band album Brave New World in '69. I don't have any confirmation but, the vocal on the lyric "Son, you better stay in bed" sounds very Paul-like.

Yes. I like "My Dark Hour," with Paul and Steve Miller. I learned Paul co-created it with Steve Miller when Paul was going through a dark hour: The Beatles' financial management mess and manager abuse conflict between the sleazy Alan Klein, who the other Beatles wanted, esp John, and Paul's Linda's Dad, Mr Eastman, who would have been much better. Years later John apologized to Paul admitting Alan Klein was really a sleazy thief.

A fact mentioned earlier here about Peter and Gordon, the pop duo for whom McCartney wrote songs which included their one big hit ‘A World Without Love’ that McCartney reputedly wrote when he was only 16 years old is that Peter Asher is the younger brother of once actress Jane Asher who dated Paul McCartney around that time. But it has always annoyed Jane whenever her relationship with McCartney is mentioned after meeting satirical cartoonist Gerald Scarfe with whom she has a daughter and two sons.

And of course McCartney's main love interest during the 60s was Jane Asher, Peter's sister. That may have been a factor in his 'giving' those two songs to Peter and Gordon.

My favorite McCartney song that neither he nor the Beatles recorded (except for a preliminary tape): Bad to Me, a hit for Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas.

There are many "legends" of rock and pop, but Paul will remain the ultimate highlight. Even John, Mick, Sting or others have not had such a definitive impact on the history of popular culture !...

The Beatles as a whole had a massive influence on popular culture, but they were only a part of it. Being the most upfront, outspoken member of that group, it was clearly John Lennon who had the definitive impact on the history of popular culture!
