This was probably my first game ever. I've been playing it since I was 4 years old with a bootleg Russian translation, never stopped since. Romulus 3 (though techincally it was in NFS 2) is still one of my favorite music pieces of all time. Thank you for giving this game to me, dad. I will forever treasure it.
NFS III HOT PURSUIT still miles above even NFS UNBOUND sadly.
Romulus is in my sleeping playlist lol
It still baffles me how the fans ignore classic NFS like they don't even exist. And praise that Underground and Most Wanted defined NFS as a whole.
If it was not for High Stakes, we would not have Underground (Car customization)
If it was not for Hot Pursuit, we would not have Most Wanted (Police chase)
Can't blame them, a whole generation grew up playing Underground and Most Wanted, which are definitely very iconic games. We grew up playing this, we're getting old bro.
IKR???
@@IDyn4m1CI NFS 3 Hot Pursuit was iconic also. Due to the fact that it's one of Playstations "Greatest Hits " titles. The others (Like Hot Pursuit from 2010) are just money grabs
@@samsoncoby8006 Funnily enough NFS 2010 was the last NFS I actually enjoyed. I think nostalgia plays a big factor here, but I actually liked that game.
@@IDyn4m1CI You do know that Hot Pursuit 2010 is not really the most selling Need For Speed title right?
The enormous attention to detail is by far what I miss the most about the old nfs games. Paying to repair the damages, the showroom, all the information about the cars...
Underground was a very important change for the nfs series. And even though I can´t deny some of the most iconic games came after underground, what underground did leave behind is those little details and the focus for cars.
The older nfs games put a focus on cars while the games after focused on the trends at the time.
I miss the showcase audios (high stakes style) in the modern games.
The tracks were also a highlight. They could focus on more condensed and interesting locations, instead of creating an empty open world.
If they weren’t forced to make a game every six months blackbox would include it they were planing fully modelled engines and potential swaps for ug2 also police they were all scrapped
100% Agree, and now we have modern NFS (especially Unbound) that feels like it focuses 60% on characters and the other 40% on the cars. Criterion put so many fashion brands in this game for character customization which i don't give a shit about, cockpit view has been absent for so long and all those tiny details for the cars just no longer exist, no more fun concept cars or cars specifically made for NFS like El Nino, no more fun tracks, no more cheat codes. Classic NFS was a gem of its time!
@@Zeephonyep. Tracks and also ATD (Attention To Detail) that are still Goated till this day.
Agree. That's why I love all first 5 NFSes, and I consider Porsche 2000 as the ultimate perfection of NFS franchise. Only with Underground 2 and ProStreet I had nearly as much fun as with those 5 NFSes
The fact that a racing game from over 2 decades ago is better than most modern racing games is absolutely depressing
Sometimes I think this was the peak of NFS.
It really was.
IMO Porsche 2000 was the peak, but Hot Pursuit and High Stakes were very very close.
This game brings me so many memories. I remember when I got home back from school in the late afternoons, and there was almost always a sunset coming through the window while I started playing the game. That's why when I look at the sunset many times, I remember the great times I had while playing these awesome games in my Playstation.
I played it on PSX so it is slightly different, but the whole game is the same essentially. The cars, the tracks, the music... OOOH MAN, THE FREAKING MUSIC. I absolutely love how "90 techno" they sound. I know there are the rock tracks too, but I was always in the mood for the techno ones.
If I love the Jaguar XJR-15, and both Diablo and Countach, it's because of this game. Thank you, Hot Pursuit.
NFS III is still GOATED.
Alright time for Need for Memes: PogStreet (A Prostreet Shitpost basically!)
Live now! www.twitch.tv/kuruhs
1:19 exact story for myself: i didn't even existed, my dad was playing NFS4: High Stakes with his Teac sound system. I was vibin to those bangers like Callista in my mother's stomach 😂 and when i played the game myself (i was like 5 years old) i fell in love with the game. Content and the gameplay was something else in old NFS games. Still playing the game with the same Teac sound system (it's still alive and sounds amazing somehow) and no other modern game gives me the same vibe like old NFS games do, love em.
Old really OLD NFS games is the real golden era .
Love this game so much. Before I was even born, my dad played this, competing with his friends to get the best lap times. Nowadays I do the same thing with my friends
Just goes to show that graphics really aren't important for a game to be fun, although these were probably very impressive when it released
NFS III in my opinion is as GOATED like LoveLive.
My first racing game ever. I was only 3 or 4 at the time... I played it A LOT, kept annoying my grandparents with the police sirens lol. Played it on an old PC with Windows 98, good old times. The game that got me hooked on video games.
Same, except I was 5 lol
Exactly the same, first pc game, and I was 4 !
This game is to this day my favorite racing game ever. The music, car roster, tracks and charm everywhere including in the menus has yet to be beaten by another game. The music especially is my favorite video game soundtrack of all time, Rom Di Prisco is a blessing.
9:12 Hitler cop doesn't exists he can't hurt you.
Hitler cop:
This was the absolute peak of the NFS series. So many options and so much freedom. With just the tracks you could choose the number of laps, race reversed and/or mirrored, with or without weather effects, and at day or night. Later games in the series where the whole game is in day or night suck compared to this.
This was forza horizon before forza horizon. No, not the festivities and horizon showcases, but the feeling of racing the best cars in the world through amazing landscapes and incredible places and visuals started with games like this
FH5 will have most of NFS3's cars with the introduction of XJR-15. Doubtful we'll ever see the Scighera and Nazca, though. Which is a shame...
To this day I still remember the cops pulling you over"
"Im gonna pretend your accelerators stuck and let you off with a warning but DONT try it again..."
"I don't see the smoke but you seem to be headed for a fire...I'm giving you a warning...try to take it easy"
"You just don't seem to get it do you?.. this is your final warning...next time you'll be riding with me."
"PUT YOUR HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE EM! YOUR UNDER ARREST!"
This game had the greatest instrumental soundtracks in any NFS ever. With that said, Rear Flutterblast and Snow Bags are my favorite IMO.
NFS2 had the best menu theme
Warped,Flimsy and Cetus 808 are my favourites.
7:15 Prototype of the infamous 2nd person mission from Driver San Francisco.
7:43 Rolls Royce made that steering wheel.
NFS 3 has the best and worst racing line in NFS games.
That masterpiece still looks good until this day
My Favorite NFS Game of all time
NFS3 Hot Pursuit was my first ever gaming experience at 4 years old. I love this game so much. I would sell my soul for a nice remake with modern graphics.
I remember playing it on my dads early 2000's Windows XP Computer, playing around in paint, pinball and of course this gem.
There made a remake in 2010
@@yrrr4871That its a completely different game. The same goes for MW 2012.
That's how games devolved, better graphics cost us miscellaneous details that makes old games feel more alive
Couldn't agree more. I've spent so many hours in this game back then on PS1. So many and great memories
NFS III HOT PURSUIT both on the PC and PS1 are still GOATED.
5:29 That's what the Lamborghini Diablo SV sounds like in the PS1 version.
9:42 "STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM!" 🗿
25 years since its debut.
Excellent gaming design, cars, tracks, music (of course). I played the PS1 version to death but I knew a friend from the neighborhood when I was younger who had the PC version.
When I tried with Forza, NFS: High Stakes or even NFS: HP 2 it didn't felt the same.
7:14 - Is this the part 2 to the legendary video "This Is What a Second-Person Video Game Would Look Like" ?
NFS 3 was a gem and I am proud to call this the first game I played seriously 😍
5:33 this track reminds me of nfs nl
My dad bought this game for his PC back in the day, and its the one game i remember playing with him. RIP Dad ill never delete it off my new PC
Nfs 3 : hot pursuit the nfs that introduce the Cops chase
While it was the first one, in that game the chases suc. A cop can arrest you only for overtaking.
Newer NFS games lack the attention to detail that this game, 1, 2 and High Stakes had
I like the headlight shadows, for some reason, the Most Wanted has headlight on but it didnt do anything like the light effect and the other, the light effect just can be see when its raining, and the light didnt get much effect too
Edit: old NFS is Better!
This was imo the best NFS by a long shot. Best controls, soundtrack, showroom, best track design, best all. We dont need boring open world, Need For Speed should be about racing in beautiful locations with equal focus not only on racing but time trial aspects and with the possibility of creating custom races through a main menu.
The graphics on PC with max settings are also one of the best of the time, and it aged well thanks to its unique artstyle.
No. NFS4 was way better as it had all tracks of NFS3 included plus career mode, car-damage and a little better graphics. Also soundtrack and showrooms were quite identical.
@@mTwMarco It was really close imo, in fact i think is the second most perfect game in the series by far, right after 3. I just think they screwed just very few things like the handling in the rain or the removal or the car manufacturer info. The career mode it can also be so repetitive, the music is not dynamic and imo as memorable excluding some few tracks and the race tracks itself the same, while well made, again, arent as memorable for me, excluding some great ones like Durkham Road or Route Adonf.
If NFS3 is a 10/10, High Stakes is a well deserved 9.
Is like what i think about Nitro Fueled, compared to the OG CTR, you are able to enjoy way more content over slighty less polish? A matter of preferences like i always say.
@@sebastiankulche I got your point but NFS4 is NFS3 just with more features. The new tracks are way more beautiful if you think of dolphin cove and kindiak park. Also the online-racing modes were way more fun as there were world-rankings which was quite competitive for this time. It's just the more complete game. Also 3D-cockpits were quite impressive for that time as NFS3 only had 2D-Bitmap-Cockpits (which to be fair looked also quite good).
@@mTwMarco Fair point. Is just a few aspects in the core gameplay that i dislike. The rest i agree, is one of the most impressive games of the era and even Gran Turismo would dream about those features. But i dont know why you complain about it. I still love the game a lot, lol.
@@sebastiankulche Yeah maybe that sounded a bit harsh from me, sorry for that! I loved all of the NFS Games from 2,3,4 and also NFS Porsche. Great era!
I was waiting for this. This is the OG right here ☝️
6:40 *Gran Turismo 4 license has entered the chat*
This game has a special place in my heart, being one of the first non-edutainment games I played. I remember going over to a friend's house so much to play this, that he eventually gave in and just gave me the CD. Or rather, he lent it to me and I never had a chance to give it back, even after my parents bought me the Hot Pursuit, High Stakes, and Porsche Unleashed combo pack from my school's book fair a couple of years later.
Not to forget: the soundtrack was awesome!
Man, this game is freaking awesome! The only NFS game I really like. There is a site you can download and modify cars. Still play this with my kids once in a while. PC version.
This is my first nfs game as well, i remember how stressed i was during cop chases :D i also played it with logitech wingman formula force gp steering wheel
its funny how his story of this being his first nfs is basically the exact same as mine
I know. Same here.
0:43 that's actually the Jaguar factory...
This would be older than me
I'll be honest, I always preferred High Stakes to HP3 because imo it looked better and was more fun, I liked the maps, geographical diversity, different nationalities etc, even though HP3 did share a lot of the same qualities I liked about High Stakes and I owned and played both back when I was a single digit kid, I always preferred it over Hot Pursuit. I appreciated both though and seeing the tracks and cars I used to play on is bringing back *major* nostalgia
I mean, thats not unpopular. I think more unpopular would be saying that NFS3 is much better than 4 and thats what i think. Dont get me wrong, i love High Stakes and is easily a top 3 in the series along with MW and NFS3. Just i like much more NFS3 since it was a game that gets straight to the point, which is doing races in beautiful locations with perfect controls. While High Stakes also has that esence, some of the new game modes add unnecesary padding to the game, the new tracks are way too narrow and the controls on rain are horrible. The cars also for some reason had less grip than NFS3 and very few times they can shake and damage itself even on flat road.
The base graphics i think i agree with you, they are better, except the cars since a few of them looks like toys, probably they had to reduce car quality to make a realistic damage system.
The soundtrack for main menu, like NFS3 was amazing, but in races it was forgetable, imo at least. Maybe because they used much less rock songs and they arent interactive.
First game I remember actually liking and playing ALOT. FOND memories of this one. And a similar story with my dad. He bought them up to Hot Pursuit 2 on PC
That menu music takes me back. Got this game for pc back in the day and it was amazing. Got lucky it turned out to be a great game as I only got a new game but maybe once a year. Nostalgia drip engaged 😂
my first game was also nfs 3. i bought it with a motorcycle wheel gamepad(it was sort of special offer, if you buy the wheel, the game will be free etc.). i never used the wheel gamepad. but played nfs3 many years. i think you was also born in 90's

9:57 I love how silly the busting system is 😂
Waiting on him to play porsche unleashed
3:54 your copilot when you're samir and you go left.
I remember playing these games before I could even read. These have this indescribable kind of nostalgia that feels like a fever dream
Still my favourite racing game. Number 1. I've played this game so much I know all tracks by hard and I usually install the "A.I Phantom" custom car (still downloadable today) to make it even harder (it's like a modified aggresive Scighera that goes very very fast) and play Hot Pursuit on all tracks. Knockout is also an excellent challenge if you choose like a Class B car and play vs Class A cars / Expert Mode. The 3DFX nglide simulation is awesome. I'll build a retro setup at some point to play this on a real Voodoo 3dfx card
mulligan with his red cars, such a great guy
I own NFS3 on ps1 and pc and I have great memories with them. The ps version came first but god damn, the pc version was a sight to behold if you had a 3D accelerated card.
I recently played this game on my laptop with the modern patch (60 fps, widescreen, bugfixes etc.) it holds up surprisingly well for a product of its time. There's several camera modes and settigs to play around, its very customizable. This game was reccomended to me by Sega Lord X, he reviewed the playstation version and it looked pretty fun so I tried it on PC, the reflection textures ground the cars to the enviroment otherwise they look weird and out of place, it looks cool for the time.
NFS 3 has the best soundtrack i love it
This was the first need for speed I played!
Didn't ask
The first bideo vane i ever played soundtrack was so good
@@matteoziegler7632 noob
Muy first game it was NFS 2 but this still is a masterpiece and one of the best racing game ever
4:14
Nfs Pro Street Nevada Highway be like:
Sometimes I just feel like playing this game and use a steering wheel. It is the first game I ever played and I still love it so much. The atmosphere, the soundtrack, the menus, almost everything...
Of course it does, games used need to be more than average to make sales, if not it could led a company to it's demise
Nowadays with the "big" companies having a huge amount flow of money, they barely care about making their incoming money worth
You see companies repeating themselves over and over for like 10 years or more, add a few tweaks here and there and there you go, you have a new tittle every 1 or 2 years, but hey now with more realistic lens flares!
And they know they only need to make half game, it's no point on making something complete or big anyways, because dumbass people will still buy it even if they know it's unplayable at day 1
The only thing that make them have sells are franchise names, here you go you have the 6th installment of a 12yo saga that been for 10 years the same till today just with different setting, over and over and over
Here you want some improvements? They will tell you the change are huge enough to change entire genre... But then yes change the entire genre for BAD!
Lack of charisma, personality, content, new ideas, ambition, passion, art work, 15 years ago a game like that will just be an average bad game, nowadays it's enough to make a game every 2 years
But hey! Now maps bigger! We have nice graphics for the graphics ***res! And of course don't forget the almighty crappy monetization schemes without that... We are all doomed
Thanks for reading, sorry for any misspelling
This was my very first NFS game as well on PS1. Playing with my brother who was always better at it than me.
That was also my first NFS game ever, but on the PS1. I had so much fun with it as a kid. The soundtrack is amazing, I still listen to Rom di Prisco from time to time just for the nostalgia.
I want a remaster for PC and to be released on consoles! I'm so mad nobody has! Would love NFS 3,4, and 6.
No racing game has been as good as these older NFS games
@@dagerry lol, that sucks so bad. All that happy to be so miserably let down, loool
I used to play this with my dad when i was a kid. He was always better than me :D Nowdays he just lags behind but this game brings me great memories.
This was my first NFS game as well. My cousin had it on his PS1 and I used to play it all the time.
still my fav nfs game. highly under rated the graphics music and 200mph powerslides are top notch. it blew me away back in 98 how smooth the framerate was cause i was used to jet moto and nascar 98
this game bring back a lots of memories 😔
Same Kuru! my brother bought this game and he wasn't into it so I played it more and more myself cause I was hooked.
One of the best games I ever played. And I played it first in 2015 on a PS1. Gameplay is so much better than any modern nfs. They wish they'd be 0.000000001% as good as that would still be a billion times better than nfs heat, payback and 2015 combined.
My first need for speed too! I remember playing it on my shitty pc with a 200mhz cpu. It was laggy as hell. Still loved it!
damn I remember I had a blast playing this even though I had no idea wtf was going on. First ever PC game for me as well.
This was the highpoint in the series imo, before that trash Underground came out. At least HP2010 was kind of a throwback to this.
this game had so many problems you never noticed as a kid
no road lines in backward mirror
pieces of nfs 2 and 4 compressed inside of graphics files
also light style vertex vs projectails it is like fighting epilepsia with quality
It surprises me how many people here including me get the game in the same way: from dad
It feels almost like a generational thing.
@4:14 whoa!! Who threw that car off the road!?
@8:59 *e a r r a p e*
My first NFS as well, probably one of my first games ever. Used to look so realistic when I was 7 lmao.
Pretty sure I came into consciousness (or at least the very first experience of life I ever remembered) while playing this game lol
Kuru: i might have to restart my pc now
Jeremy Clarkson: Oh no!
Me: Anyway
How does Kuru even manage to get these running?
Ah, Romulus 3 is absolute therapy to my ears.
most people says they can't run old games in modern systems while I play old games everyday with no problems. If you do have problems try installing every runtimes.
@@pastelfromgreece9603 did but still doesn't work. Won't install. And if they do, won't run. Even tried the dgVoodoo route to no avail.
@@CTE-6000EagleVeryHeavyFighter hmm, try the compatibility modes and enable Data execution prevetion.
Also try VEG's patches. Or in the case of High Stakes: the Stock Pack.
Patches.
When i came from nfs 1+2 and test drive 1/2...this game was years apart.I think i still got it on ps 1 can't remember. But my friends and i rushed home from school to jam this.
I think this is a best nfs game ever made. And this game have cones and co pilot? REALLY??? I modded this game some much, and i don,t know that.
My first NFS…oh, my memories…
7:16 whaaa i didn't know this
same also my first NFS game but tbh i played it on PS1 and we could not play as cops we did have the insane endgame unlock car called the El nino and it was OP
I still have this game and I play it sometimes
1:02 this is the dirty tricks from the AI that made impossible to win
Peak of the series.
RIP Saki Kaskas.
This is my first nfs too
NFS II SE , HP 3 , HIGH STAKES and Porsche 2000 last good NFS
Hate that nobody uses the "projected Lights" option!!!
MAX MAX MAX MAX SUPERMAX
This was my first Nfs too but on the Playstation 1
Hey I happen to see your video of nfs3. It is what I work on most the time. I reached out to rom di prisco and he emailed back. And he happen to watch my most viewed video and commented. Because it was a tribute to saki kaskas. And rom him self. So I emailed him my video and my sincere ty. And now I am more passionate. I looked up to rom and saki growing up.
change lights from projected to vertex in options
Did you know: If you don't exceed the speed limit on the signs, the cops won't chase you.
This is my first need for speed game as well and I got it the same way.
The first six NFS titles are the best racing games of all time, and purely speaking, the true NFS titles. Post-HP2 and the series lost the real element of NFS, the raison d'etre of the series altogether.
P.S. NFS 2 SE was my first-ever racing game of my life, and I love it to the fact I still have a copy of it after 23 years. x)
What about HP2010 and Rivals?
