This is the same UP line that used to be Southern Pacific. They used to service fruit packing houses in Villa Park, Orange, and Tustin. The big flood in 1969 wiped out the train bridges, so the line got cut off at the VP packing house. I used to live near there. I have old photos from the 1960s somewhere of the SP switching engine, old track, cars on the side of the packing house, etc. Miss those days...
Great vid as always! As a Brit, street running is so unusual and cool. Living in London we regularly have royals pass us in little motorcades, just yesterday we came out of the park to be passed by Will and Kate. I'd rather be passed by a Geep and a couple of boxcars - far more interesting.
If you are going to Santa Ana St to see this and are a fan of No Doubt note the small market at Citron st. That market plus the sidewalks and the backyard and driveway of a home on Ohio street were the filming locations for the No Doubt music video "Sunday Morning" shot in 1997.
Nice Vid!!!! I'd be VERY interested as to where those Costa Mesa rails are. I live in the Santa Ana Costa Mesa region near Bristol and Segertrom. There are tracks near my house, just south of Segerstron, where one "lonely" train a day serves the LA Times plant near Harbor and the 405 Frwy. I'd love to know where other "rail action" takes place in my area. :)
Yes!!! It was supposed to have been torn out in 2012...but it never happened. I hate to say it, but I am guessing that it's days are numbered...definitely historic though.
@@janettemcclelland2959 Thank you, Janette. Mee-mool lights *(o)T(o)* there now? Or no signal at all because none is needed? One mustop for the stop signs on Lemon Street and yield to vehicles on the streethathe track runs down the middle.
@@janettemcclelland2959 Thank you. What a wa$te. Lemon Street has little traffic. One had to stop, anyway. Was there a collision which caused them to consider more signals?
@@janettemcclelland2959 Yep. I remember when that happened. Keep in mind, my comment WAS from 4 years ago now...I haven't been back there since that horrid day...Was it replaced by actual gates or just flashing lights?
Monday and Wednesday the Costa Mesa run, Tuesday and Thursday, the Huntington Beach run, Mon thru Friday the Marlboro run. All by the same train, but, sometimes the Buena Park switcher handles one of the runs instead.

That is really cool, how it just goes straight through the streets! Nice power and horns too! Awesome long hood forward!

The LA Times plant hasn't been active in like more than 10 years now... 8 Junuary, 2010 www.piworld.com/article/la-times-closing-printing-facility/
Great vid. Really appreciate your not using much telephoto.
I wonder if the train/car wrecks hapen alot more with street running trains
How fun!
Always video a train entering a grade crossing in case there is a collision.
Is the wig-wag signal still at Lemon Street in Anaheim?

Gone as of 2019.

Don't forget about the Wigwag at Lemon crossing in the Santa Ana street run. Still there and still working last I knew. (Since removed).
Gone. Replaced with gates in 2019.

@@NiceMuslimLady Actual gates. Plus I think the stop sign is still there.
@@janettemcclelland2959 Ok, then they added the gates later...
I was by there yesterday. I didn't see any gates, just the flashing lights.
I wonder how long UP is going to keep this line open. I live about 5 minutes from here and the traffic is dangerously low for the amount of trackage.
What’s the name of the street?
I would think that some of this traffic especially towards Costa Mesa might be for educating new trainmen.
Can someone tell me if UP still runs on that line

Muito legal!!!!
why is it called the marlboro
I think is go to Costa Mesa local
Is 584 a former CNW unit?
ThePainTrain765 Former SP according to RRpicturearchives.
Ah I see.
I assumed it was CNW because of the box on the nose, but now I see because it had the SP light package.
+ThePainTrain765 And a P3. If a UP unit has a Nathan P3 horn, it is most certainly an ex-SP unit.
Is that an MP15DC??
3GS21B
Do you know if trains still go on these tracks?
Yes they do
I was here I’m at Las Vegas
