- Following Union Pacific's Marsh Job around the Harbor View area of Milwaukee. This area has many interesting features including original CNW Griswold crossings, a portion of street running to reach a customer, a switchback to access the street, an ex CNW swing bridge to get to Jones Island, and more.
As a retired railroader, I enjoyed this video. There isn't much good old switching action on the class ones any more. I always enjoyed local jobs, we got a list & figured out how to make it happen. All the branchlines I worked on are either shortlined or abandoned now. I started my career 50 years ago.
I know that area so well
so much of the track is gone
Very cool swing bridge!! Nice gritty industrial railroading. Great job!!!
Thanks!
Very enjoyable video. I found on Google Maps where you filmed the train. That area once had a lot industry that used rail. Pretty sad these days.
Long Haul trains are Common and a Dime a Dozen but Switching is where it’s ALL at. Thanks! 👍
Thanks for the swing bridge footage i did'nt think any of those in Milwaukee worked i know the one near the 3rd was once going to be turned unto a restaurant
Nice switching action. Crews have to know their territory to get the job done. Like that really tight curve. A 6 axle unit would never make that. Good stuff. 👍
Great catch and video of the UP local running around the Jones Island port of Milwaukee Area.
Thanks!
Excellent!! Who would ever have thought railroads would use GP60's as switchers?!?!?
excellent. Caught them on Jones Island, any idea of a normal schedule?
They go to Jones Island Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
30 years ago i would have thought that too.
@@NYTrainzchaser wow... down to 3 days/week... that job used to be 10 to 12 hours daily... with time more and more business being lost... job also used a caboose because of all the facing point industries... i worked the helper spot on there a FEW times... back then when it had the caboose it was a pretty fun assignment... it was cool to spend all day working out of the caboose... it had cabinets in it and the foreman had boxes of cereal, bowls and silverware in the cabinets... for break he'd eat a bowl of cereal while discussing the next moves to be made... yea pretty cool job back then but it's all changing so fast now, and not for the better
That was a Awesome switching video with all cool takes..
You bring me so much action right in my neighborhood... Thank you 😎👍
Really cool looking area
Nice catch
Awesome video
Thanks!
Your welcome @@NYTrainzchaser!
When was the video shot and was the swing bridge moving scene real time ?
Many thanks for excellent footage
It was taken on March 30th, and the swing bridge shot was sped up to make the video shorter.
@@NYTrainzchaser Thanks NYT. Pleased the video is so "current" and UP are still using GP60 locos. Speeding up the bridge movement, nice to know, it had me a bit worried my models were too slow.. Many thanks, current switching always appreciated. JP
2:36 are there tracks in the street?
yes, note the mention of "street running" in the title.
Great catch that's such a neat area! 🤠
Where in Milwaukee is 04:00 ?
On S Water St.
Very nice footage. I work about 5 blocks from where the single tank car was dropped.
Wow! Back when I had my boat I always thought that swing bridge was abandoned.
Very nice old Griswold crossing signals in the first shot, awesome vid NY Trainzchaser!
Thanks!
