They grow this fruit in My country ( Myanmar ) Burma And I love it,*** western Australia.
Wow, you didn't miss anything. Was waiting for the "flowering after stress" note. Kudos to you. I have the Arkin.
In Hawai'i we used green, unripe fruit as bbq (star•b•q) sauce. Delicious!

We had a carambola tree when I was growing up in Guyana, South America. I wasn't very fond of fruits..but now I would love to have a tree. The only problem is that I live in NY... :(

Any variety is seedless ?
In Trinidad we call them 5 Fingers.
hello. I am a high school student making a documentary in Korea. I came across your video while looking for information on carambola. Would it be okay if I used some of this video as visuals for my documentary? Sentences may be awkward because you are using a translator. The finished documentary will be submitted to the school, and of course all video material will be clearly credited!
I just planted two fruit trees and both are full of flowers they seem to small to hold fruit but I see no bees on the flowers will that mean that no fruit will develop?
Bees 🐝 visit my tree
I am in south africa ND was blessed with srar fruit that are green. How to use them
I was told that the largest amounts of that acid is located in the outer most portion on the fins. Trimming the fins rids the fruit of a large amount.
Interesting! I'll try to verify that
www.snopes.com/food/warnings/starfruit.asp. It is uncommon, yet many do have trouble with it. I have heard other growers talk about it.
I had not seen the neurotoxin stuff before...crazy stories on the internet about all sorts of things...
Having problems with the oxalic acid is very rare, but real
Oddly enough I noticed it because I'm a Beekeeper. I treat my Bees for Mites with this very same chemical. Now I'm waiting to see if a beekeeper get hospitalized for Neurotoxin Issues related to treatment . I may experiment with the fruit as an (all natural) treatment for bees. Breaking out that juicer, lol.
good luck
We call it balimbing in manila Phil.
Wow love it ! I wish I could be your neighbor 👍👍👍💕
It could kill someone
Don't eat it
Look at all the fruit on the ground!!!
It's hard to get all the fruit when the production is cranking. I try to pick one, 2 others fall. They don't do well hitting the ground or a branch when falling
@@greatergood3706 That would make me sad but a nice problem to have. I'd lay out those foam mats before picking! haha
@theuglykwan they have a very high water content in the fruit. Working in the yard in the heat, eating a few star fruit is invigorating and refreshing
I live in Perth, Western Australia, should I plant the tree in a spot with 4 hours full sun? My tree seems to be under heat stress when in full afternoon sun. Please advise. Thank you.
They don't mind shade in the afternoon in my garden
Was that a variegated branch on that tree ? I would buy a cutting from that brach, or some seeds from the fruit that come out of that branch ?
Cool😎
Love watching your videos!! Been learning so much! I have a quick question.. which starfruit variety do you think is best ..? I have a kari but want to add one more .. with so many options.. I'd like to get your advice..Thank you so much for your time :)
I recommend tasting as many of the varieties as you can. Of the ones I've tasted, I would say not Arkin. That variety is pretty bland.
How do I pollinate these myself I have flowers but don't no
Small flowers, it's a bee 🐝 type job
In the Philippines we call it Balimbing (or two-faced)
Thanks for the info!
Same here in malaysia we call it belimbing
Hi mine name.is Sjsan Aikman.
I have those star fruit in mij garden.
😊😊
I've got a tree that I believe was started from seed. It's 4 years old now and has never produced blossoms or fruit. Its maybe 10ft tall and spindly. Any tips would be gratefully accepted!
you might consider cutting it back to about 4 feet tall. You could graft onto the shoots that emerge. If you would like to taste the (eventual) fruit of seedling, just don't graft onto all the shoots. That way, you can get fruit soon and still see if the base trees produces tasty fruit. (Sometimes it takes more than ten years for seedlings to produce fruit.)
@@TrulyTropical thanks! Any suggestions for fertilizer?
Can varambola grow in michagin with snow every winter?
Probably too cold 🥶
How do you get the sweet variety at the grocery store?
You don't, they are harvested too green. Best right off your own tree
Which star fruit is the sweetest? Please and thank you
Kary
Which variety do you find better tasting (more sweet - less acid) - Bell - Fwang tung or Sri Kembangan?
Sri Kembangen is generally sweeter.
The sweetness of Fwang Tung seems to vary with the season.
Does Sri have any tartness? Also did you notice any issues with self-pollination?
I have Bell variety. It is a year old and about 6 inches tall. How fast the normal tree grow?
Depends on the location of your garden
Are star fruit trees evergreen? Do they lose their leaves in the winter?
The only time they seem to lose their leaves is in high winds.
when they lose their leaves due to strong winds, commonly, the tree is still alive and can bounce back? Hoping this is the case.
Yes
Google says star fruit is NOT native to Sri Lanka but Southeast Asia
como se hase la Yiya de caranbola
I’m finding red bugs on my starfruit. I pick them off but I find the young fruit are falling from tree.
Eric Smith those are called read spider mites they are east to get rid of: mix a solution of soft soap and water together and spray it daily on your free for at least two weeks or when the bigs disappear.
Yep, sap sucking mites
we call it star apple or carambola
Very interesting! Star apple refers to caimito in the US, so it's great to know that it can mean carambola too!
Where are you from?
Isnt that called BALIMBI?
Balimbi is a close relative
Malaysian call it belimbing
i've had starfruit before, it was bitter and unpleasant, why was that?
The quality of the fruit depends on the variety, how it's grown and when it's picked. Often the starfruit in grocery stores are only grown for looks (and often don't look that great).
There are 2 varieties: the sweet (and juicy) variety, and the "sour" variety, great for juices and sauces.
Grocery bought fruit is bleh!
But we called it carmbola
L
