If you're doing worse than what is already looking like a terminal live service, it's hard to imagine a scenario where you can ever recover. Wonder if Ubisoft will remain stubborn about Skull & Bones or if they'll call it quits early.

Good point.
I swear ubisoft published this game because of the sunkcost fallacy and nothing more...
Seriously disappointing to see 10 years of work being made completely worthless on a soulless project like this.

You’re to cowardly to cover the racists in Sweet Baby Inc, Yong?

The current state of AAA gaming can be pretty much summed up by the "How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?!" meme.

What these greedy companies don't get, is that if you monetize your game like it's free-to-play, then the game should be F2P. They want Fortnite money, not realizing that people who play Fortnite already play Fornite because it's free.
Yeah fortnite wouldn't have lived past a year or two if it weren't for the fact it was free.
there are plenty of highly successful MMOs and general LSs with upfront costs. But yeah it shouldn't be priced like a singleplayer title
same technique with Genshin its F2P & it’s successful. The Future of Games should be Free to Play.
Thank goodness someone else thinks it - I've been saying that to anyone who would listen for months. Fortnite blew up the way it did because it was free to play. Anyone can say it sucked or hated the game, but nobody could deny that the way it charged people worked. You could play the base game for free and I think you could unlock various free things too, but it got successful through its cosmetics (which was how it made money) and the big special events, which were possible due to how the game's marketing system was established.
Fortnite wasn't even originally a battle royale and that just launched as a free aspect to the main game, they abandoned the paid aspect because nobody bought it
Ubisoft should be proud, they created the first quadruple A title that tanked faster than a triple A pile of slop.

Skull & Bones at LEAST has a more interesting concept. Suicide Squid is just.... squid.
The number of games that go through a development hell of the one Skull and Bones went through, and don't come out of it looking like they went through hell can probably be counted on one hand.
It's ... functional. It's not "Sony offers refunds for this" broken. But from all accounts it should be one of these brain dead yearly release affairs - not the end result of a decade. From all accounts this'll just fizzle out and go away, remembered only as a bit of shameful Ubisoft trivia that might pop up on some "X games that went through development hell!" list.

It's pretty sad to see Ubisoft doing even worse than itself...
I wouldn't go that far. The water physics seem absolutely fine, especially the spray. The reflections though are absolutely awfully implemented. Aside from that, I really don't have much to say.
That’s just plain bullshite, I’ve played both black flag and skull and bones this week and graphics wise, ship combat wise and water physics wise skull and bones is far superior, in skull and bones you feel like you’re sailing rather then simply gliding on water like in black flag.
@@fluidthought42water looks like shit compared to black flag i've seen the one to one comparison 😂

Thing is though even if a game makes a great comback, games should not require comebacks to become great, that’s the biggest problem that seems to be acceptable in the industry is that “Oh games will get fixed later, they’ll get better later” and even when they do, the cycle repeats all over again. The sad thing is,
These companies, like pubisoft, they have:
- tens of billions cash
- thousands, even tens of thousands of workers
- they have fantastic tools and engines, that allow them to create a full working gta5 map in 5 seconds, , with physics, weather cycle, npcs, roads, etc, by just setting some values, and pressing 'create'
- they have +40 year of knowledge about videogames, and know what works or not, what gamers want or not
Therefore, they should be able to create tens of fantastic masterpieces, every single year. But instead, it's flop after flop after flop.
There was a time, when games were made around fun, couch co-op, great stories, great characters, etc.
Then, all the Blackrocks, vanguards, etc, and their hoards of greedy shareholders and ceos arrived, with their suitcases filled with trillions $, and they invaded all these big studios. These guys have video games, dont play videogames, know nothing about video games. All they care about is money.
And so companies are forced to create games, 100% based on monetization. No more fun, no more great stories and characters. All that matters is hopefully creating the next fortnite/minecraft/roblok/ etc title, that will make hundreds of millions every month.
Of course, studios are forced to sprinkle all those games, with politics, etc, and we all know what happens next.
Games must do more and more and more. At the current pace, one day, a game will have to make 3 billions in the first 48 hours, for the shareholders to be happy. And if it only makes 2.9 billions, 1000 employees will be fired. Another 2 years like that, and there will be another crash.
Shit, is it so hard to create a great game ? Ghost recon breakpoint: shit. Watchdogs legions : shit. The list goes on and on. Even farcry, which i adored, 1..2..3..4..5.. last farcry 6, i had to stop playing, after 30 or 40%. Doing all the same crap over and over made me sick and tired of it.
Meanwhile, if ubisoft wanted, with barely 10 or 15 millions, they could create a fantastic Rayman game, 4k 120fps, level editor, etc, and they could easily sell 10 million copies, at 49 bucks, and make at least 200-300 millions. But 300 millions aren't good enough, these days.
And there we have: skull and bones, another flop. And their next game : another flop.
All that, because studios and devs don't have the freedom to do what they want... and have to comply and conform to their masters at blackrok, vanguard, etc.
With all the cash, the tools, the engines, the power of the computers and consoles, it had never been so easy, to create a fantastic game, even small one. But these companies keep on releasing shit after shit after shit.
Yes, it is known : everything these capital/hedge/venture companies like vanguard or blackrock do touch, ends up dying.
And game after game, they are killing the game industry. Instead of making great games.
So sad...
Game is for fun, when they took out fun replace it with monetization it is not a game anymore. Is waste of time to even play it. Anywhere these suitcase walks the grass dies. Why they think people will fork out 90-100$ for a game in this economy. You can buy 2-3 games with that price having fun with friends just the same.
Fantastically worded.

whale milk machines disguised as video games.
Would have sold better if they gave it another A. Maybe two more.
I think we can all agree Skull & bones should've never existed & Suicide squad was a hilarious flop that has no connection to the Arkhamverse
Its possible Skull and Bones was a kind of success because its finally out and they don't have to continue making it anymore. It was far in development hell that just flopping is better than languishing taking up resources.
It's poisoned the brand for them for a lot of people forever though
Ya know what's the most ridiculous part?, the higher ups won't learn the damm lesson at all, and only the ground developers will be the ones paying the price
I would like to act surprised at some point but we all knew what was coming. Painfully predictable.
I’m glad I made the decision to save my money. After I saw that Naval Combat was the only combat in the game I lost interest.
Sony did not give money back, they gave the player a Sony store credit for the amount he spent on SSKTJL.
The fact the Sony is doing this though makes me think that it may get pulled from Sony's store altogether if it does not improve. It costs platform holders real money even to issue a store credit in terms of CS employees salary and transaction fees.
